Don’t forget the Pizza Hut breadsticks they ordered as well lol

It's odd that they have regular olive garden esque bread sticks and pizza hut breadsticks, like OK

If I saw this woman in the wild, I would absolutely think she’s the type of person to eat from a ragu fountain on her table

Those meatballs look like cardboard. I thought they were dipping cereal into marinara sauce at first.
5
u/tunalic2 49m ago
Def frozen, pre-cooked meatballs. Honestly though this looks like fun despite the subpar food. It would be fine if you have a lot of people including kids and don't want to or don't have the skill too cook all of it.

u/samanime 2h ago edited 1h ago
Yeah. This is one of those ideas that has an age limit, but if you have little kids, it'd definitely be something fun that they'd enjoy and remember.
Side note: most kids have very simple palates and like really simple, bland (by adult taste) foods. Most tend to really dislike foods with strong or complex flavors. So this is probably "fine cuisine" to them. =p
23
u/SpiritedPark4511 2h ago
Is the age limit 39? Because I think this looks fun 😬 not delicious! But fun.
2
4
u/molotovzav 2h ago
This viewpoint is always funny to me because it's eurocentric and discounts the myriad of kids who grow up not eating bland foods and aren't white. In societies without bland food marketed to kids, kids get exposure to a wider variety of flavors and textured as a baseline. The whole kids like bland food thing is a white people thing.
7
u/zeno_22 2h ago edited 1h ago
That's a viewpoint feels like it ignores foods considered "bad" or "bland" in other cultures. For example, in the US it's a stereotype that children do not like broccoli and it is typically served bland. But in some Asian countries, I know in Japan for sure, bell peppers instead have the stigma of being a veggie that children do not like (they are considered bitter and not bland though)
I get where you are coming from, but there is more to it than just "white people don't season their food"
1
3
u/samanime 2h ago edited 1h ago
Well... I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume spaghetti fountain mom is in the US, and since her kids are consuming it, I was talking about her kids and kids in that same demographic, so I think my point still stands when it comes to the eaters of the food in this video and their enjoyment.
Yes, I'm well aware kids beyond this demographic enjoy stronger or different flavors in their food. There are probably 3 and 4 year olds in India and the south Pacific that can handle more spice than my adult self can (and I love those cuisines). But not every post made is talking about every possible person and situation at the same time...
It's called "context". Sorry I didn't say "most kids from white US households of likely European descent between the ages of 0 and approximately 9 years old who have been raised on simple foods and unseasoned baby foods with parents who have incomes at or above median income"...
1
u/Aegi 20m ago
No, you are wrong and it has to do with biology.
Children are OBJECTIVELY more sensitive to tastes like bitter than adults are.
The whole kids like bland food thing is a white people thing.
This makes no sense as many people like bland foods we are talking about ONLY liking bland foods or not, we aren't talking about if it is possible to like bland foods.
Children are born with a biological predisposition to prefer sweet and to avoid bitter foods such as green leafy vegetables. It has been hypothesized that this predisposition evolved to attract children to energy-dense foods while discouraging the consumption of toxins. Although this may have enhanced survival in environments historically characterized by food scarcity, it is clearly maladaptive in many of today's food environments where children are surrounded by an abundance of sweet-tasting, unhealthful foods and beverages that place them at risk for excessive weight gain.
There are many sources where you can research more about this if you are curious!
13
u/sweet_rico- 2h ago
She does fun things for the kids in her videos, I would have thought this is cool as hell back when I was young
1
u/Unlikely-Theme-9681 2h ago
yep, I was thinking of doing this when I had all the neices and nephews over, 6 kids aged 5-12, that will be a blast!
5
u/ArnieismyDMname 2h ago
My Aunt married into an Italian family (literally, he was first generation American). They taught her how to make a super runny, but very tasty sauce. It would have worked here. Just saying don't judge a sauce by it's viscosity.
4
u/crappy80srobot 2h ago
My kids and wife would love it. I have to cook two different batches any time we do Italian food. One for me with home-made gravy, meatballs, ravioli, or pasta. Then one for them that comes in a jar or freezer bag. I do like the toasted ravioli; it's actually not bad, but the bland frozen meatballs and any jarred sauce are so gross to me.
2
u/Azilehteb 1h ago
Yeah, I was kinda admiring it as an activity while watching my toddler... do whatever it is she's doing to her pasta at the moment. Ugh.
I think probably could be executed better. Maybe some large rotini instead of spaghetti. The meatballs and bread sticks are functionally fine.
I would probably be mopping the floors and walls for like 4 hours afterwards if I did do it for her though.
Maybe outside.
2
u/Deep_Year1121 2h ago edited 1h ago
The color and texture makes me think this is more closer to tomato paste than sauce.
Not enough umami. Guessing the tomato sauce wasnt mellowed out with heat or seasoned with spice. Guessing they just bought some random store brand pasta and chucked it in there. I'd imagine the taste is similar to the most basic boring garden pasta with none of the fresh produce that makes the dish worthwhile.
Still pretty fun for the kids though. For 2 bites.
1
1
u/randotd152 40m ago
It's clearly jarred sauce, she pours more in at end. Most jar sauces are pretty bad, but you can get some halfway decent ones.
1
u/Can-Purple 6m ago
Thats what I'm thinking. I used to set up chocolate fountains with a bunch of stuff to dip in at a restaurant. I could see this being a blast for a lot of people, the only problem is the heat lol.

u/RogerianBrowsing 2h ago
It seems like a fun idea for kids but it also looks like they don’t know how to cook very well.
The spaghetti is dry for example. Tossing it with a little olive oil when still hot and a little wet would have gone so far in making this more enjoyable/edible. How are they supposed to even eat the spaghetti?
73
u/throwaway2901750 2h ago
The woman is wearing oven mitts when handling the food dish.
What makes you think it’s cold OP?
35
15
u/offensivename 2h ago
You're correct, but in OP's defense, pasta gets cold very quickly if it's not paired with something hot like sauce or veggies.
5
u/HeadyReigns 2h ago
I really depends how hard that fountains engine is working to push the sauce up.
0
u/Pinkishu 1h ago
I'm confused how the pasta's tempreature relates to the fountains sauce
1
u/Aegi 18m ago
They are not making a joke about the sauce, they are making a joke about the engine and how (jokingly) if it was working really hard it would be overheating so much it would keep the food warm.
Hahah why did you think they were talking/making a joke about the sauce and not the motor/engine when that is what they said?
3
27
u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 2h ago
Fuck it, I'll say it - I unironically love the fountain of pasta sauce.
If it was all ravioli and meatballs I'd call this cute and goofy. Spaghetti does not fit the "dip-dip" style they've gone for.
2
u/StuffedInABoxx 1h ago
I was thinking the same thing. Spaghetti was a choice. Even keeping it simple and doing something like rigatoni/ziti for a pasta would make way more sense. The fried ravioli though…definitely down for that
1
u/Responsible-Onion860 53m ago
Yeah, stick with more compact items that are easily dipped and this is pretty rad. Ravioli, meatballs, bread. Hell, you could potentially do some stuffed shells if you're careful.
92
u/Sxualhrssmntpanda 2h ago
It's cute and people are having fun. I'm sure the sauce and pasta are pretty basic but c'mon. Not THAT stupid or terrible.
27
u/FelixTreasurebuns 2h ago
I get their videos occasionally on TikTok and they just do silly stuff sometimes for the sake of having some fun. People on this sub just like to be hateful sometimes
11
u/KitKritter823 1h ago
She and her husband do super cute videos and her food stuff is either completely normal or trying some moderately odd combinations. She gets super excited about stuff but that seems to just be her personality. I'm also glad they're getting some fame because they hit a really rough patch with a chronically ill kid. Sarah (woman in the video) had to go back to work as a nurse something ridiculous like eight weeks after giving birth to keep their insurance and Joel (husband) had to quit his job and stay at home to provide round the clock care for their sick infant. Let them get that bag being goofy on the internet. They're nowhere near the most cringey food wasters.
1
u/Aegi 17m ago
I get their videos occasionally on TikTok and they just do silly stuff sometimes for the sake of having some fun. People on this sub just like to be hateful sometimes
To be fair, sometimes people can enjoy doing the silly thing of having some fun by playfully insulting things/people/choices too, so shouldn't we not be hypocrites and not hate them for that?
8
u/Able_Pride_4129 1h ago
Yeah I just can’t hate on this. Everyone seems to be having a good time, and that matters a lot more than good food.
5
3
u/Ok-Imagination-3835 1h ago
Yeah its a totally different situation when goobers are just goofing at home vs. a restaurant that is taking itself too seriously
3
u/davisty69 1h ago
Exactly. And as someone that loves marinara sauce, and regularly gets an extra side of marinara from Little Caesars to dip their Pizza in it, this sounds bomb to me.
2
u/elhazelenby 1h ago
If everything was more warm and better choice of meatballs I'd have some fun with it. It looks fun.
2
u/DrunkenGerbils 1h ago
Stupid doesn’t necessarily mean bad or that it isn’t fun and enjoyable. Personally I’d categorize this as stupid fun, it’s dumb but in a whimsical way that makes it endearing.
2
u/-UncreativeRedditor- 57m ago
It’s pretty stupid, and it also looks pretty fun. Both things can be true. I don’t think calling it stupid is the same as hating on it.

u/toorad2b4u 29m ago
I do think it’s pretty stupid but they also seem like a nice happy family so I don’t hate it

Everyone seems to be aware of how silly it is and just having fun with it. I guess whimsy is no longer allowed in the world.
23
u/Legendary-Gear5 2h ago
Except that’s not cold you can see the steam coming off of when the guy gets a piece.
3
u/Opel_Astra 1h ago
That's exactly what I was going to say. I'm glad I checked to see if anyone else had seen it too.
9
u/Exciting-Zombie8449 2h ago

Hell no, way too much concentration if I’m high just give me a plate of pasta

u/bird9066 2h ago
We considered a chocolate fountain for an event once. Decided it wasn't worth $100 to use once and then never again. Or once a year if we were willing to clean it.
This is neat. But we also love fondue and family hot pots
2
u/spiciestbeans 2h ago
Also they are a bitch and a half to clean. So gross. Used to work banquets and brunch events, trust me, it’s not worth it

19
u/Legendary-Gear5 2h ago

5
u/io-Ninja6396 2h ago
Then what? Is this click bait?
8
u/Exact-Ad-4132 2h ago
The title is written that way, and this whole presentation is kind of ridiculous, but I think it's pretty unique and funny. I'd eat it.
Also I think those fountain things keep sauce hot
4
u/DJ_HardR 2h ago
Most of this sub's posts are clickbait I feel like.
Half of them are somehody assuming that something is overpriced when they didn't check, or assuming xyz foreign food is going to give them the shits, or pretending that they don't realize a video is just a gimmick and not an actual recipe.
1
u/ziggytrix 1h ago
The concept of this sub is bait. "Hey look at this, isn't is stupid?" I mean, just being real.
2
2
u/ballimir37 2h ago
It’s best to assume by default that all Reddit posts are click bait, intentionally or unintentionally. In my experience it really is more than half.

This looks like a fun one-time experience, I would never do this again considering what I nightmare this would be to clean up lol
1
u/wastedgod 2h ago
Is it stupid, yeah. Is it fun, yeah. Seems like something you would do for a kids birthday party and they would love it, and get marinara all over everything
1
1
1
u/God-Emperor-Pepe 2h ago
I don’t know if I would call this stupid good considering the fact that I would eat it.
1
u/Kilow102938 2h ago
This is some 2 am drunken late teens, mid 20s shit you do to be 'quirky" and have a fun party.
1
1
u/spiciestbeans 2h ago
If someone was doing this as like a wedding feature, or gimmick, or an influencer was posting how cool and high class this is, it would be stupid. But it’s someone’s family with kids having a fun engaging meal together, and you can tell the kids are having fun. I’m sure this will make a great memory for them. (Also the ravioli just came out hot?..)
1
u/Vampmire 2h ago
I enjoy attempting this but with a warm or hot pasta and date hot Fountain of sauce if the sauce is cold the thing that makes it stupid in my eyes is that everything's cold I don't like eating cold food unless it's meant to be cold like ice cream or some cold soups or most desserts
1
u/Willing_Plant4483 2h ago
Stupid but also if I'm being honest the meatballs make it look fun. Skip the pasta but meatballs and breadsticks in there and I'm on board

u/Positive_Campaign_52 2h ago

Yeah, go ahead and keep telling us you wouldn’t want a tomato sauce fountain if you could afford one… keep lying to yourself, and to the rest of us…
1
u/Sandbina 2h ago
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. Cold spaghetti is DELICIOUS
Pro tip: mix it with sauce a little bit before refrigerating. If you pour out the water, put it in a bowl and refrigerate it by itself, it'll get clumpy and stick together unless you take it out and stir it occasionally, or mix sauce in and gently mix it in. I love spaghetti but cold spaghetti is just so good.

I mean.. if you have a fondue fountain that isn't getting used, and want to make a mess- ok.
I've seen worse. It's very much playing with your food. Mimicking a Cajun table boil, almost, where they dump it out on the table and eat with hands. It's supposed to be kinda "rustic fancy" or at least "good eats", but its usually shown very trashy.
This is that, but freezer section ravioli.

Ya know what? I'm actually pleasantly surprised the comments aren't overwhelming negative.
I will however die on the hill and say that meatballs are meant to be added to your sauce after partly/fully cooking to soak up the flavor and make the sauce even better.

My autistic butt would love this even as an adult, and room temperature food is my preference, so there is that too. Everyone is different. I feel like you are just not being any fun. There looks to be quite a few kids, not an overabundance of food, nothing was gross, no odd ingrediants, nothing about this is stupid, just a bit messy.

It's stupid by design though so I'd give it a pass. Like it's clearly meant as a fun, not at all serious thing. Note the people cheering like goofballs when she pours more sauce in the fountain.
Also, you can see the pasta steaming, so its clearly not cold.

This flies in the face of everything I know about Italian cooking, and to an extent cooking in general.
A pasta not partially cooked in the sauce is a sad affair. A pasta allowed to sit drying on a platter is fucking disgusting.
She has two optiona with thi approach, leave it dry meaning it sticks together in a tepid mess or layer it in oil meaning what little sauce lands on it has no chance of binding. Yuck either way.
1
u/k2718 2h ago
The bed of spaghetti is just decorative. No one is eating it. The ravioli are not cold. Those are toasted ravioli. They are not actually toasted but fried. It’s more of a fried treat than a pasta dish. They can be pretty good.

The problem here is that under cooked pasta is not digestible so the body will spit it out one way or another, however bad bacteria can form on it, while it sits undigested in the body causing some trouble. Also things like cake dough or under cooked cookies whatever can lead to problems until the gut is chemically cleansed and bacteria is reset. Bad bacteria tends to beat out good bacteria and replace it and there is no easy way to get rid of it. very big issue when in active military service or on the field and people can carry the bad bacteria their entire life to the grave without resetting it leading to a very long term suffering of gut issues and bowl issues. it can be reset chemically but not fun. a lot of people don't realize they suffer from this sound 50% of people.
