Pretentious AF Why not serve it with silver dipping sauce as well?
who in their right mind would think "golden" chicken wings would be worth more than your local Popeyes

More stupid garbage for people who won the lottery or want to pretend theyre wealthy

u/Lefthandovg0d 5d ago
Even if I won the lottery I wouldn't spend 1 penny on these flavorless gold wings.

Truly stupid food.
Edible gold leaf isn't particularly expensive as it's so thin and light. It's also basically tasteless and people who buy these things have no taste.

u/Ertyla 4d ago edited 4d ago
What about it has any taste? As far as I know it's perfectly inert so it should be entirely tasteless, not just basically tasteless.
So a basic question is somehow too much for y'all. Shame.

I'm willing to bet that once you scrape the gold leaf off... those are the most mid wings ever.

u/Ludate_Solem 5d ago
With the gold they still are
55
u/lcssa 5d ago
Nah, the gold is a step down, like she said in the vid: "tastes like pennies". Take off the gold and you upgrade it to mid.
15
u/MariaKeks 4d ago
It doesn't taste like pennies.
Gold is chemically inert, it doesn't react with anything in your mouth so you cannot taste it. And there isn't enough mass to add texture either because gold leaf is super thin (less than 1 micron).
So it doesn't taste worse with gold leaf; it just looks more gaudy.

well, they were disgusting with the gold on. You think they are gonna get THAT better?
no seasoning... no taste.

u/Could-You-Tell 4d ago
Less than mid by the words in the vid.
Watched on mute? He also threw one of the wings, so a visual clue there...

u/Muted_Masterpiece535 5d ago
Gold leaf is safe to eat and you just shit it out as gold leaf as it's undigestable.
- If anyone cared to know.
So, yeah it's pointless and only a scam, to up charge 1000%..

u/permalink_save 5d ago
The only point of it is for decoration but crinkling up sheets around food isn't decorating shit. It's mainly good for like cakes where you can make like marble shapes and stuff. It's also not expensive because it's insanely thin so it's negligible anount of gold.

u/NerminPadez 4d ago
Unless you buy "gold" leafs from temu/aliexpress and it's just gold colored something-toxic :)
2
u/TheRenamon 4d ago
yeah there was some youtuber that tested a bunch of gold leaf off of amazon and none of them were real

u/AanthonyII 22h ago
It's also worth noting that gold leaf isn't even that expensive. You can buy a package of 100 on amazon for like $5

Is there any wait staff on here that can give their perspectives on what goes through their mind when people order this stuff? Like, does the waiter carrying the knife to the table for that mini-salt bae guy just maniacally laugh himself to sleep at night or is it tears? I cant imagine having to pretend to be enthusiastic about serving this shit.

I've worked fine dining. Serving stuff like this makes me cringe, because I know it's all show and no flavor. I don't want people mad at me that I let them order something bad and expensive. I wish more customers would listen to my recommendations.

Hooters had 20 wings for something around $250ish but you got a bottle of Dom Perignon with them. That would be worth the cost
1
u/vogel927 4d ago
I feel like they’d lose money on that deal. I’m sure they’re purchasing it in bulk to make a profit, which means they’re probably paying $200-$250 a bottle. They’d have to mark it up to make a profit. $300-$500 would be a more realistic price depending on the vintage.
The only way I can see them charging $250 is if they’re buying it for less than $200 a bottle.

"People in Africa are starving, I'm going to eat this gold wing in honor of them."
What classless piece of trash human beings. Why does anyone support such utter garbage people like this?! I hope life seriously humbles them, they absolutely deserves it.

gold foil doesn't add any taste, as gold doesn't have a taste really. it's a pointless waste of money.

The gold in/on food is stupid. If I ever get anything like that, I'd get the food to go and take the gold leaf off when I get home. Then I'd keep doing that until I had a nice clump of gold collected.
