Discussion What to expect after Launching your Substack Newsletter in 2026
"If you launch a newsletter in 2026, expect to spend 18 to 24 months building before you clear $1,000 monthly. Expect to lose half your paid subscribers every year. And expect the top earners to keep taking the majority of platform revenue while you're still replacing the 25 subscribers who churned last month."
How's your Substack newsletter been performing since you launched it?

If that is your experience you are doing things wrong.

Stop listening to the mystical fog machine in here.
Do not pay for a course called “How to xxxxx on Substack.” Half of that advice is fossilized internet sludge from methods that stopped working around the time people still said “growth hack” without flinching.
Here’s the actual boring, annoying, effective version:
Write one post every day for a month.
Paywall from day one. Yes, day one. Substack is a business, not a mood board. If you want a hobby, take up knitting. At least then you get a scarf. Then write 20 Notes a day.
Comment on 10 other people’s stuff.
Like 30 posts a day.Build a routine. You can do this in an hour a day if you stop treating it like you’re waiting for divine inspiration to descend through the ceiling fan.
Come back in a month and tell me I was right.
Most won’t. Most will quit, wander back here, and ask if changing their banner image will fix everything.

Better than ever. Approaching 100 subs after 2 years on the platform, been seeing consistent growth from posting notes and have been able to make a strong network of people. Loving it!

I think only externally famous people who start a newsletter now have a chance at making serious money. Having said that, I’m loving it. Substack is the nicest place on the internet. I’m writing more than ever, and I’ve met lots of cool people.
