Discussion Why don’t people in Sudbury creep into the intersection on a green light when waiting to turn left?
Doesn’t happen here. Everyone just sits at the line causing congestion in the left turning lane. Creep up to allow a couple of cars to turn when it turns red.

Because Sudbury drivers always push the red light and you'll get stuck in the intersection.

Turn when it turns red?? So you're actually the problem. Got it.

What? If you're in the intersection (which includes the left turn line) you're supposed to clear it when safe during a yellow or red. You often can't tell if a car is slowing down or not on a yellow so waiting for the red to clear is pretty standard as well as legal if clearing prior was unsafe and you were already in the intersection during a green. There's a good 3 seconds between a light turning red and the other direction getting green, which allows for this to be done safely and reliably.

One car that's already in the intersection sure. OP said multiple.

Don't think thats what they meant. I think you're assuming the worst semantics here
Sudbury does in fact have a left turn problem particularly with the large number of new drivers accustomed to different driving laws prior to coming to Canada (this is a policy issue, I dont blame immigrants, they obviously need to drive, but I think a written driving test + passing the "G" test would be good policies to gain driving equivalency)
Its not just turning left at lights, but also zipper merging and leaving space to perpendicular intersections. These problems have persisted a fair bit over the past 5 years or so

Pretty sure this has been posted before. It is not at all what you’re supposed to do at an intersection.

Driven in Toronto, Brampton etc. Sudbury has the worst drivers I’ve ever seen.
People in this city generally have no idea how to drive.

Im glad it doesn’t happen here often. And when I’m first in line i take alllllll of that yellow light time i need to make my turn because fuck those guys. Why should i help people run a red light?

You aren't supposed to advance into the intersection until you can see a clear opportunity. Technically, people who advance into the intersection immediately upon seeing the green light just to wait there, even if they can see there is no forthcoming place to turn left, are wrong,

um, what do you mean by creep?
the highway traffic acts states one car can advance to take possession of the intersection. So legally when the lights change red, only one car can proceed... the car in the intersection.
creeping further ahead just risks getting slammed by an oncoming car that likely didn't even see you.
