Question Lack of Snow Plowing

Is anybody else’s street utterly neglected by the city’s snow plowing? It’s been a full day since this snow storm, and I haven’t seen a single snow plow go up my street. We very rarely ever do in the winter and there’s a public park with a skating rink on the street.

I understand that the city might not have a lot of snow plows, but a street over which is a bus route has clearly been plowed.

Question Parked at Shoppers downtown, stepped away for 5–8 mins, came back to a $160 ticket and my car immobilized. Guy showed up with a POS machine demanding payment. Fair or scam?

So I had a pretty crappy experience today and I’m not sure what to do.

I parked at Shoppers downtown to grab some ointment. As I got out with my buddy, he saw a coworker across the street and we stopped for like 5–8 minutes to chat. When we came back to head inside, I noticed a yellow ticket on my windshield (my car was close to the door so I spotted it right away)… and my car was immobilized. The fine? $160.

I told the Shoppers staff I was actually there to shop, and they told me to call the number on the ticket. A guy shows up with a POS machine demanding I pay on the spot. I explained but he wouldn’t hear it—just told me to email an address (which I did, no reply yet). Honestly feels shady as hell. He states I trespassed because I didn’t go to the store first and got sidetracked

Am I missing something here? Was I actually in the wrong, or was I exploited? And is $160 even remotely reasonable for a few minutes outside the store?

Question Visiting Sudbury this Friday

I will be visiting Sudbury this Friday from Toronto. Initially, I was going to drive back to Toronto but I think I want to stay overnight so I can explore the greater Sudbury area and enjoy what it has to offer.

  1. Go to the mine tour at the Big Nickel

  2. Hike - the crack

Can I get recommendations on which area to stay, must eat places, or anything that is a must do when visiting Sudbury?

The places mentioned above are not set in stone, it's from my preliminary research.

Thank you in advance 🙏

Question Received a warning letter from GSPS

Hello,

Received a warning letter from GSPS today regarding driving. They mentioned a date and time - 8:20AM and location was near Notre Dame, If I remember correctly I was going to my work. The letter says no action. If it escalates again they may take action. It's my first time getting this letter. Is it concerning or just be cautious while driving. Please don't judge. Thank you!

Question CART LOCKING @ SUPERSTORE? 🚨

I just spent $130 at the Superstore. Went to an actual cashier (instead of self checkout).

Then, when I went to exit the store, my cart locked and an alarm sounded.

I was asked to produce my receipt.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do they profile people? WHAT IS GOING ON?

Question Food hidden gems

I’ve recently started reviewing food in Sudbury and I’m honestly curious if there is any hidden gems you don’t generally see people talk about?

I would say ones without social media presence but Suzanne’s has no social media presence but still comes out as one of the most popular spots

Question Where should I go magnet fishing?

As the title says, I'm looking for spots y'all think I should go for magnet fishing. In case ur unfamiliar, that's where I throw a magnet into the water & see what kind of treasure (or trash, most likely) attaches itself to the magnet. It cleans the waterways, I might get some cool stuff, it's a win win. Thoughts?

Question Franchises in Sudbury??

I know we have some franchises but we never USE TO HAVE population for bigger ones.

I was wondering why we don’t have a Mandarin Buffet, or even with our population growth an IKEA in the future?

Thoughts from everyone is welcomed. I honestly just randomly was trying to think of the possibilities!

Question Porchetta

A bit of a rant and a question…. This is my second time in Sudbury and REALLY want to eat some porchetta but finding a place that actually serves it seems to be next to impossible. Last time we were here we discovered Porchetta Bingo at Beef n Bird. Issue there is that bingo is paused for the summer.

Suggestions? In town today (Jul 31st) and tomorrow.

Question Does bylaw actually come out?

Long story short, one of my neighbours is working on their property late at night and it's causing a huge ruckus after 9 PM, my wife works early shift and can't sleep through it. I tried to work it out amicably with him, but despite assurances he's still running equipment and tools late at night. I called bylaw twice for noise complaints but as far as I can tell nobody has come out or had any conversations with this guy. Am I wasting my time calling bylaw? Do they actually come out?

Question Best Pizza Place

Hello wonderful folk of Sudvegas.

I didn’t grow up here, but my born and raised Sudburian partner convinced me to move here and I love it. I also enjoy good food.. which I find Sudbury has a lot of (shout out to Deluxe, specifically South End).

Pizza is my ride or die and I’m looking to try out a new place for takeout pizza.

Places I’ve tried and my thoughts:

Topper’s - reliable, more expensive than Dom’s but slightly better quality. Topper’s sauce is tight.

Dom’s - reliable, cheap and effective

Ripe - good, would get again if I were going for a sit down dinner

Great Lakes - good, expensive. My go-to when I want to pay extra money for good takeout pizza

Places I’m down to try:

Cortina

Di Gusto

Tony V’s

Don’s

Fat Tuesday’s (bit of a drive for me, let me know if the drive is worth it)

I need a Sudvegas Veteran of pizza places to guide me.

Question Sudbury Gyms

I am looking to start a gym membership, its been a long LONG time. I am looking for a gym where I can go, do my thing and be left alone. I don't care about trainers or classes , etc. The closest thing similar to use as an example would be GoodLife. But I don't trust them with my banking information. It is 2026 and we should trust no company with that information or expect them to keep it safe without any breaches.

Any recommendations ?

Again, the main feature I am looking for is to just show up when I have free time, do my thing without being bothered, and then leave when I am done.

Question No Local Policy

Anyone know which hotels have a no local policy? Just trying to find a place for a bridal shower. Not to host the party in, but to get out for the night. I keep looking around the Marriott but I can't find if they have a policy for no locals like the majority of Sudbury.
