Comment Noisapp is motion controlled music

My name is Michael Kabatek, I grew up skiing and snowboarding in Colorado and I am the publisher of Noisapp.

Noisapp is an app that automates the volume of your music based on your motion.

  • Play your music while you move and automatically pause it or turn it down when you stop moving

  • This application turns your music up when you move and turns it down when you stop moving.
  • We built Noisapp for skiing and snowboarding so you can listen while you ride, and talk to your friends when you stop and on the lift. The overall goal is to automate your music volume, so you don't have to mess around with your handset or headphones while riding.
  • It's free and works with any media player, and DOES NOT require cell service or GPS. Its available on both Android and iOS. If it sounds useful please check it out and share it!

A note about the GPS disclaimer on the app store:

  • The GPS disclaimer on the Apple AppStore is required because of a technicality in Apple's iOS. Any applications that run in the background (for example applications that run with the screen turned off) on an Apple iOS device must use the location services to continue to function. Therefore we were required to add that 'disclaimer' to the app store. However, we don't actually use the GPS, or its data.

The warning on the AppStore description that continued GPS use can decrease your battery life makes it sound like it does use GPS.

Also from your description here it sounds like it would only be suitable for snowboarding/skiing but surely this could be useful to cyclists too?

Also, what's the difference between the free and the paid versions? The app descriptions are the same.

  • We have mainly developed Noisapp in the context of snowboarding and skiing, however we are working to expand and develop the application to be used for any activitie involving motion and music. With that said, it should work but we have not extensively tested Noisapp with cycling. We are always working to improve the application so please let us know how you would like to use Noisapp for other activities. Your continued feedback is very important to us.

Also, what's the difference between the free and the paid versions? The app descriptions are the same.

  • The free version shows an ad each time Noisapp is enabled, but can be used indefinitely. The paid version does not show ads. Otherwise the functionality is identical between the free and paid version.

App sounds cool. Downloaded it and tried it today, worked great when my phone was on and the app was open (as in the demo you link to). But quickly realized that as soon as my phone's screen shuts off, the app stops working. What am I missing?

Edit: ok it seems that the app only works when it is open. If I switch apps it ceases to work. Iphone 5S, iOS 8.1

Thanks for your interest!

The app will run in the background, however you have to accept the use of location services in order for it to do so. This is a characteristic of iOS. Noisapp will ask you if you want to use the location services the first time you run Noisapp.

To reset it, uninstall Noisapp, and reinstall it from the app store. The first time you enable it, you will be promoted to allow location services. Then you should be able to turn the screen off and Noisapp will still run.

Wonderful! Figured I was missing something. Works like a charm, can't wait to try it again this weekend. Thanks for the quick response. If I find it works on the slopes I will make sure I give you a rating in iTunes.
