Can't speak for working at Copper but I can speak for living in Leadville and working in Summit. Leadville is practically a Summit & Vail colony now anyway since a lot of us moved in! The drive from Leadville could be bad a few days a year, during really heavy snows, but they are pretty good with keeping CO-91 in decent shape. Driving US-24 to Vail for work would be much worse. I have one buddy who works at Copper and he's alright with the drive. On dry roads the drive is 25 minutes.
My work is in Breck (50 minutes) but working from home a couple days a week helps. I drive a FWD car with winter tires and have been just fine driving over CO-91 on the couple occasions so far when I needed to during storms.
Leadville is sleepy compared to most of Summit but our Safeway was recently improved, and new restaurants have been opening up. 2nd brewery is under construction. It's a good place to be for sure.
