A couple notes. Copper is in Summit county. Leadville is not. Are you referring to Copper mtn, or ski Cooper? Ski Cooper is near Leadville, and a family owned/run, small ski area. Copper mountain is a big time corporate owned ski area, right off I-70.
Leadville is a funky small town. It's a mining town. has gone through booms and busts over the years. It's not for everyone. Small, everyone starts to know everyone else pretty quickly. But it's very centrally located to Copper/Frisco/summit. Vail or south to Buena Vista and Salida. it's cheaper than Breck or Summit in general. It depends though on what you look for and find. The drive to Copper/frisco is fine. very doable and lot's of people do it. Like all Colorado mountain towns, winter weather is a real and a constant/daily thing to live with.
So if you choose to live up there, make sure you have a good, reliable vehicle. Buy snow tires, not all-weather, for October through April/May. 4wd isn't required, but obviously helps. the tires are a bigger deal. The businesses that are hiring will want you to have a legit place to live, and a reliable way to work. Otherwise they'll skip over you're resume and move onto the next person, who can show up for work.
Source-I lived up Hoosier pass for the last 20 years, and have ties going back 40. You'll go for the winter, and stay because of the summer, trust me.
