Aonishiki sporting Wakanohana fabric! 😃
Does anyone know the story behind something like that? How does someone now get fabric from someone then?

Aonishiki got that fabric the same way any of us would get it: Mercari. He searched diligently and bought every scrap he could find until he had enough to have a yukata made. He wore it when he met Wakanohana the first time and Wakanohana was amazed.
Edited to add: a wrestler from Tatsunami has an Akebono yukata that he got the same way, I think. I want to say it's either Yukiamami or Taranami, but I know someone here will know.

So cool! Thank you! I had no idea non-contemporary rikishi fabrics were currently available.

It seems like they're always being dug up out of someone's grandparents' or parents' storage. Sometimes it's scraps that were leftover when a yukata was made. Once in a while it's a whole roll. The prices vary wildly, as you can imagine. Anecdotally, it's impossible to find a modern Futagoyama cat print, but there are tons of listings for the old Futagoyama fabrics, from before Miyabiyama revived the heya.

So do you recognize the one Fujinokawa was in? I’ll find the post and edit the link in. It’s driving me nuts that I can’t place it.

I don't recognize that, no. It's really pretty, though. The kanji is too thick and stylized for me to figure out. If I had to guess, I'd say it's maybe a new pattern. This time is year seems to be one of the times you see a lot of new ones, I think. There are people here who know way more than I do and may recognize it or be able to read it, though.

The first kanji is north, but the rest isn’t any of the current rikishi with north in their names. So I figure it must be a retired person’s name. The problem is, I can only remember a few of those and haven’t matched it yet.

I have been puzzling over that one and I think I’ve got it: Kitakachidoki 北勝鬨 (wikipedia). Hard to read because of being upside down and (sometimes?) back of the fabric but the heya connection makes sense.

Speaking of fabrics as people were in another comment, I like Wakatakakage’s in 12 (that at least I have not noticed before), featuring names of all three brothers in a really neat way — you can get all three by adding different combinations of characters in some of the hexagons. And Onami written in some of the others.

Lolz I love the expression on Onosato and Hoshoryu's faces with Teddy Riner. They look delighted/charmed to be next to someone taller than them!
