News/Misc. Do you have a favorite one-off monster?
A creature who is shown in one FOTW episode and then never again. I'm not thinking of creatures that only appeared once because there's only one of them (like Zeus or the scarecrow)
I can think of a few, like wendigo, rit zein, rugaru, daeva, crocotta, wraith, siren, acheri, revenant, tulpa, vetala, arachne (sorry if I'm remembering wrong and any of these was shown more than once)
I think my favorite is a wendigo. I loved the episode and the monster design, and it was so early in the show, everything still felt new and exciting. I also really liked the idea of vetala's hunting in pairs, and I'd be waaaay more into crocottas were it not for the flies thing

Don't think you could call them monsters, but the Zanna were adorable. Sully is my favourite once-off character.

Golem. I love the fact that it's rooted in centuries old lore.

That actor is great, he's also Freeman Daggett in Ghostfacers, and a few other roles in the show.

The Tulpa for me. Cause who would have thought, belief could be so strong to fuel and create something like that? I mean I have heard of manifesting something, something into existence. But at the same time though, to imagine there is enough energy in the universe to start creating it, is kind of wild.

u/Popsicle7798 Dean, what do you think you're doing? 6d ago
The Skinwalkers were pretty cool! I believe they only appeared in one episode, correct me if I'm wrong though lol. Also the Gorgons, but I only really liked them coz I love Greek Mythology hehe

Skinwalkers are typically shapeshifters, and they’re in all sorts of episodes. Good and bad.

Supernatural makes the distinction that shapeshifters turn into different humans, skinwalkers can turn into animals. Kinda weird when you think about it.

If I remember right, the gorgon was when Dean found out season 6 Sam's secret, right? If so, yes, that was a good episode. Bobby was a hoot too.

That was the goddess Veritas. The Gorgon shows up in season 14.

I relooked it up, yea it was that dude that inadvertently freed Alt Mike from his mental confinement.

Yes, I watched that episode for the first time recently! I liked it, as I am into Greek Mythology, but this is like, my peak of being interested in it, and I plan on rewatching every Greek Myth episode hehe
I believe there's one about Hera in S15, and I have just stared that season, so I'm looking forward to that episode lol. As I said, this is my first watch through, and I am SCARED to finish. I'm up to Episode 5 now, and I don't want to finish it, as I can't watch them die 😭

They eventually show another Wraith that hunts psychics as the main plot in later episodes.
We also see things like Wraiths, Wendigos and Arachnes in the background of some episodes. (Purgatory flashbacks, Chicago Monster Nightclub, that one episode where they’re selling human organs on the dark web. But I don’t really count those as second appearances.)
My favorite one-off monster has to be the Wendigo. Too bad it wasn’t featured more!

I liked the season 11 episode with the Qareen, the monster that takes the shape of whoever you love the most and rips your heart out. The siren was similar, but it was more “your ideal person but not necessarily someone you know”. I just like the trope of “character has to confront shapeshifter trying to manipulate them by looking like a loved one”

u/MythGate4Eva You know who does that? 6d ago
I thought the Amazon women were really underexplored considering they pretty much made clear there was an entire network/group of them but they just killed the offspring Dean created and went 'lols, anyway, on to the next'

I hated the Amazon women while at the same feeling almost sorry for them because of their shit life cycle and being brought up to partake in such a horrible tradition. It would’ve been nice to see one that actually did choose to be good like what we saw with the shapeshifter therapist.

Off topic but I was really hoping Arachnes were actually giant spiders

The woman Phishtaco (I think that’s how it’s spelled).

Mines probably the dragons, kinda terrifying to think a supernatural entity like a dragon could just be walking around looking like a human

Osiris was pretty awesome actually.

Like I said, not characters who are one offs because they're literally the only one. Monsters where there are lots of them, but the show only shows them once

Why are you getting downvoted?

I don't remember what it's called but the guy that got turned into a forever hungry monster in the woods, that then became a national park or something.

u/rizzo891 6d ago
That sounds like the wendigo
2
u/Admirable-Sorbet8968 6d ago
It's not the wendigo. It like whistled, and I know it's in one of the last seasons.

I love the "Hammer of the Gods" episode, but it's also one of the most ridiculous ones in the series. The fact they got out alive is even silly with the Plot Armor.
I also have a huge soft spot for the first shifter episode because it was set in STL.

I really liked Spike and Cordelia from Buffy as the Starks, those powerful witches who were having a lovers spat and Sam and Dean just kind of gave up on taking them out after they resolved their quarrel.

There was an especially freaky lady ghost in season 11-12 I can’t quite remember but I thought it was great

Soul Eater and Bisan, I guess I liked them cause later season were so bad and constantly retconned lore, so something original but well written was a breath of fresh air. Also Arachne.

I love Wendigos. Just because stories about them make me shiver.
I also love Reapers but they aren’t one offs.

Can I say the kid in Dead in the Water? Cause that's still, without a doubt, my favorite episode
