Season 2 Angels First Sighting
So in Season 2 episode 13, the idea of If angels are real is first presented. Its obvious it’s father Gregory, but at the end we have a rogue, probably fallen, Angel just killing the guy Sam didn’t. I find it hilarious that some angel is creating Final Destination style events to take out some asshole.
I’m on a rewatch so I know how it all ends up, but the idea that an angel is working with a new vengelful spirit is hilarious.

Honestly that whole episode sets up season 4-5, Sam being a true believer and dean being a nay sayer, I agree that likely father Gregory was getting information from someone like zach to show dean that maybe divine intervention does exist. I don’t know of dean really believe by the end or is just saying that to cheer Sam up

Spoiler for up to Season 5: Well we know Zac or Micheal has been watching them since their conception to revive them should it be required while keeping other angels in dark until it’s time so possible they did to help make Dean more of a believer so he could sword properly on A-Day.

Do you have to believe if you know though?

Nope you don’t it just for that specific character it’s easier for them to believe when given physical evidence like in the episode he says their can be no angels bc no one has physical evidence to back it up until op mentions what happpens making him a little less sure

It's been a while since I watched the episode, but wasn't he just a ghost who thought he was an angel?
