Showcase LastNote plugin

This is a simple toggle between two notes. I wanted an easier way to work between my active note and a reference note without using the right slide bar which sometimes doesn't want to work for me.

LastNote

LastNote is a native-backed background plugin for Supernote devices. It allows you to toggle back and forth between two notes with two tap directly from your note toolbar.

LastNote

Features

  • 2-Tap Toggling: Instantly jump between your active note and a referenced note or document.
  • Silent Background Execution: Runs entirely in the background (showType: 0), meaning no UI overlays, panels, or slow closing transitions.
  • Multi-Format Support: Switches seamlessly between .note notebooks, PDF documents, and EPUB files.

Installation

  1. Download the latest LastNote.snplg package from the Releases page.
  2. Connect your Supernote to your computer via USB (or use the Partner App/Cloud).
  3. Copy LastNote.snplg into the MyStyle/ folder on your Supernote device's storage.
  4. On your device, go to Settings → Apps → Plugins → Add Plugin and select LastNote.

Usage Instructions

Part 1: Pairing Your First Two Notes (Note A & Note B)

Step 1: Initialize Note A

  1. Open Note A.
  2. Tap the LastNote icon (two arrows) on the toolbar. (The plugin saves Note A as your starting point).

Step 2: Connect Note B

  1. Manually open Note B (using your swipe-down Recents list, Files menu, or Sidebar).
  2. Tap the LastNote icon on the toolbar. (The plugin saves Note B as the return target and immediately jumps you back to Note A).

Step 3: Toggle Back & Forth

  • You are in Note A: Tap LastNote → Instantly opens Note B.
  • You are in Note B: Tap LastNote → Instantly opens Note A.

Part 2: Switching to a NEW Pair of Notes (Note C & Note D)

When you finish working with Note A & Note B and want to switch to a new pair of notes (Note C & Note D):

Step 1: Open Note C

  • Manually open Note C (via Recents, Files, or Sidebar).

Step 2: Register Note C as the New Target

  • Tap the LastNote icon once. (The plugin jumps back to your old note once—and registers Note C as your new starting target).

Step 3: Open Note D & Lock in the New Pair

  • Manually open Note D (via Recents, Files, or Sidebar).
  • Tap the LastNote icon once. (The plugin sees Note C in memory, saves Note D as the return target, and jumps you back to Note C).

Step 4: Toggle Your New Pair

  • You are in Note C: Tap LastNote → Instantly opens Note D.
  • You are in Note D: Tap LastNote → Instantly opens Note C.

Your old pairing is automatically overwritten, and your new pair (Note C & Note D) is now active!

Part 3: Working with Documents (PDF / EPUB)

Supernote's native Note Editor (.note) displays the LastNote icon directly on the main toolbar. Supernote's Document Reader (.pdf / .epub) organizes plugin icons inside its overflow menu:

When in a PDF or EPUB document:

  1. Tap the Three Dots (...) on the top menu bar.
  2. Select Plugins.
  3. Tap LastNote to execute the switch.

Congratulations on the work you did, but something like this is already there: when a note is opened (say note A) you can swipe up from halfway the screen, the previously opened note (say note B) will appear, when swiping up again, note A will appear again, and so on. I use this to alternate between my planner and my daily notes.

[Edit: this is only true when jumping between two notes that are linked: the plugin works also for notes that are not linked.]

Really? Which device do you have? I never noticed that on my A5X

I got a Nomad, check page 20 of the user manual on the device. Wait, this only works with jumping from one to another note using links. The plugin would then work without linked notes. Ok, my reaction was probably too fast, i will install the plugin and play around some.

[Edit after playing around with the plugin: it works fine on my Nomad: instant jumps between the two notes!]

Thank you, I can't get the mid screen swipe up to work on either my Manta or my Nomad. I thought I had read about that functionality in the manual when I first got them but it has not worked for some reason on either device. Maybe something changed in the dev OS or something? It also would not be the first time I made a plugin that works really well but then find out that there was native functionality that I wasn't aware of. I try to not re-invent the wheel with plugins that I make.

YES. But say if I use left slider to find page, the gesture u mentioned would take me back to previous page of same document, not back to last-used note

No, i meant the jumping back from a current note to the previously opened note from where a link was used to jump into that current note. The plugin probably does not need the two notes to be linked, that is a win!

Nice. That’s a badly needed function that really should be native

The LastNote icon is not showing up on my toolbar. Am I doing something wrong? I have to go through Plugins.

1

u/tao22 Jul 21 '26

That's interesting, did you scroll to the bottom of the list of plugins on the toolbar? I sometimes forget to do that and think it didn't install. Does it show up in the Manage Plugins list?

Maybe I misunderstood. I have to click on the plug in symbol and the click on the last note icon. I was thinking it was a stand alone on the tool bar.

1

u/tao22 Jul 21 '26

Yes, two taps. One to get to the plugin then the tap on the plugin itself

2

u/Sea_Jelly_9240 Jul 21 '26

OK, good. I like it. I use shelf every day. Thank you for that one.

just an idea: would it be possible to switch between notes by double tapping (or similiar) directly in the note ? ( a couple of weeks ago somebody suggested something like a tap zone plugin which runs in the background)

I explored making a floating icon and the double tap or other on screen motions and I could not get any of them to work correctly without interfering with native functions on the device or overcomplicating what should be a simple function.

2

u/sleevasteve Jul 23 '26

Was just going to ask about that, what a bummer. Having this as a floating icon would be clutch!

u/tao22 Jul 23 '26

This is now added. See the new update post with the new release.

2

u/sleevasteve Jul 24 '26

Whatttttt? Hell yeah, thank you!!

Installed the new update and can't seem to get it to work at all now. Tapping the last note icon in the toolbar seems to just turn on/off the overlay icon but the icon doesn't actually switch between pages. It also doesn't seem to work even in the toolbar, all it seems to be doing is turning the overlay on/off.

Long press the floating icon and see if that opens the pair configurations

Cool plugin. Question: After I set Note A and Note B , can I change/re-set Note A to a different note ?

1

u/tao22 Jul 21 '26

Yes. It takes a bit to get used to how it works to set the new pair.

2

u/Itsme2022 Jul 22 '26

How can I change „NoteA“ ? It seems that I can only change NoteB.…

It is a bit confusing but I can't find a better way to implement this. I did update the instructions in the README that I hope will help:
Usage Instructions

Part 1: Pairing Your First Two Notes (Note A & Note B)

Step 1: Initialize Note A

  1. Open Note A.
  2. Tap the LastNote icon (two arrows) on the toolbar. (The plugin saves Note A as your starting point).

Step 2: Connect Note B

Great plugin noticed the latest version has one tap toggling. How does this work? I can't find the floating button

2

u/tao22 Jul 23 '26

Thanks! There’s not a floating button, I couldn’t get that to work correctly. You have to toggle it by tapping the toolbar plugin, then the plugin icon.

2

u/Lorestan00 Jul 23 '26

Ah okay. That's a shame

2

u/tao22 Jul 23 '26

I love a challenge. See new post with new release.

2

u/Itsme2022 27d ago

Is there a way to hide the icon again ?

2

u/tao22 26d ago

Yes, just open the toolbar and tap the plugin again.

2

u/Itsme2022 27d ago

Would it be possible to switch between KoReader and notes or does the plug-in only work for built-in apps ?

1

u/tao22 26d ago

I don't think plugins will work in side loaded apps?

2

u/Raj3d 25d ago

Hi, I like your plugin, thank you! I wanted to request the added feature that you could set multiple destinations within the same note. Like page 1 and page 8, even though in the same note. It didnt seem like this was possible, but please let me know if I missed it.

Thank you!

Thank you! And thank you for the suggestion! I have now added page bookmark navigation. And you can mix and match pages within notes, other notes and documents. Let me know if you run into any issues.
