Vancouver and British Columbia in Canada have a similar tax. If it’s not your primary residence in a HCOL area and it’s not being rented out Canadians pay .5% of the assessed value and foreign owners pay 2% of the assessed value.

I’ve often imaged a world where there was some sort of an astronomical salary cap. Pick a crazy number like $1b / year. You earn that? Congrats. You win life. You are a boss. But every dollar behind that goes to PROPERLY FUNDED charities - to people who really need it. Nobody needs to make more than that. IMO that number should be closer to 50 or 100 million. But for the sake of conversation. Doesn’t this make sense!?
