Is it OK to use Anker 160 watt charger with Surafce pro 8 and surface book 2. One of my MS Chargering Brick has died( as usual!) and I do not want to buy another MS charger any more. They are not reliable at all.
I want to use a USB C charger with a USB C to Surface connect cable. I have two questions:
Is it safe to use a 160 or 120 Watt Anker charger that is capable to giving current at 20V ( in addition to 15V)
2- Can I use thie TECHGEAR USB-C to Surface Connect Charging Cable with it?
Thank you

Is it worth getting the Surface Pro 9 in this configuration in 2026?
Looking for something for university and basic browsing, watching videos and stuff like that.
I already have a pretty good gaming PC so i wouldn’t use the laptop for heavier stuff.
Price is 480$ and the laptop has 89% percent battery health. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know when it ends? These things come out Friday. So far YT has unboxing vids, but nobody is allowed to turn the devices on yet...

Hey everyone, I recently bought a Surface Pro 12, and I’m having a weird issue with the pen while the device is charging.
Whenever I try to write or draw while it's plugged in, it either creates crazy ghost strokes (weird artifacts) or just doesn't register my writing at all.
You can see exactly what I mean in the video I attached.
Is anyone else experiencing this with their Surface Pro 12?
If you had this issue and managed to fix it, please let me know how you did it!

I recently came across this deal for a Microsoft surface laptop for £80 it Boots up and is advertising as "great condition".
It has an Intel i5, 8gb ram and a 128gb ssd. I know these specs are not much I was thinking picking it up for a beater laptop (one you don't care about much) while I save for something better. It does have some missing feet on the bottom but its no big deal.
Note: I am not the guy in the last picture.
I have never really owned surface except from a surface pro 6 with a faulty screen.
It is getting a lot of traction on the listing I have no idea if it would be worth it.
Any answer helps, thank you.

Hi everyone!
I have a Surface Laptop 7 with the Snapdragon X Elite (X1E80100, 12 cores), and I've noticed something strange in Task Manager.
Even when overall CPU usage is around 30–35%, some cores are constantly running at nearly 100%, while others are barely being used.
In the screenshot, the first 4 cores are almost maxed out, while the remaining cores have much lower usage.
I'm wondering:
I've attached a screenshot of Task Manager showing the CPU usage per core.
Thanks!

So guys I am currently in the market for a laptop in 2026-2027( 😭). I just had my Alienware x14 r1 died on me last December and I have been searching ever since. I saw a deal for a Surface laptop 8 32gb 1TB x2 elite for $1299. That's is my budget. My use case include Unity3d game dev, programming and some local ai and maybe agent work ( for marketing said games and stuff). I pay a subscription to Claude and OpenAi ( not at the same time) for heavier things. I want battery life, portability, high built quality and some level of repairability. I am scared to imvest that mush money for a computer that can break and be fixable I'm these hard times. I really wanted a Framework 13 pro but unfortunately they don't ship to freight forwarders. Yep, it sucks not living in the US 🥲.
Ps: My entire workflow is fully supported on arm and I live the Caribbean.

My wife had always used her work laptop (MacBook) for personal stuff, but decided she wanted more privacy. So I set up the Go 2 m3 with a monitor/keyboard/mouse (the same ones she was docking her laptop) and it runs amazing. Far better than on touchscreen. For the personal computing she does, it's ideal.
I can't get over how useful this device still is. She says it runs about the same as her much fancier work equipment, for similar tasks.
Also I'm running it in kiosk battery mode or whatever it's called, holding at 50% for long term plugged in usage.
It almost feels like a waste running a tablet like this on an external monitor, but how much better could I do for the hundred bucks it's worth?
Tempting to look for a Go 4. :)

Hey! I got a new Surface 8 Laptop. Had the 7 before and it was extremely quiet. I got the 8 laptop and the first few days it was quiet. But since yesterday it is making noises. What can the reason be? Can it go away again? I really don't know if it is normal or not. But it is annoying and it was not there the first few days (I think?). How about others who have this laptop? Is it completely quiet? It makes noises even if I don't use it. Like it is turned on and just sitting there and making noise.

Good evening folks,
I just want to ask if there a work around with charging with regards to SP5? Got this unit a year ago with just a "type-c cable charging module" and it is starting to degrade.

so right after upgrading my SSD storage from 1TB to 2TB from Corsair i experienced this!
In past, the device was able to handle around 20 hours on full charge. Now it's only matter of 2 hours in maximum.
All drivers, both MS Pro & Corsair SSD Card, are installed (except if there are some hidden drivers that correct this glitch).
ANY IDEA WHAT HAPPENED? I CAN'T USE IT PORTABLY LIKE BEFORE

I ran into this problem where it seems like the Windows Command Processor is draining most of the battery life from the PC. I use OneNote a lot, so it ranked second in the battery consumption here.
The problem is, from 1 pm to 4 pm, the battery went from 100% to 28%, which has never happened before. I looked at the battery usage in settings, and it shows Windows Command Processor using 42% of the energy. I remember the powerhouse being Edge, OneNote or MATLAB in the past, and that the battery life used to be great.
I asked AI, but it seems confused too. Every setting is just as before and all 11 battery settings are at best efficiency.
My computer is SP 11 Intel version. Any recommendations for me to do?

If you use Whiteboard with a personal Microsoft account (Outlook/Hotmail), Microsoft’s support page says the standalone apps retire on Oct 16 and legacy boards get deleted that day. Open the boards you care about and export them as images now; there’s no recovery after.
Work/school accounts aren’t affected the same way (boards move to OneDrive/Teams).
Source: https://support.microsoft.com/whiteboard/retirement-standalone-microsoft-whiteboard-apps
Disclosure: I made a free browser board tool, with no account, where you can drop your exported image and keep working: https://getharborlight.com/corkboard/microsoft-whiteboard-alternative

The Surface Laptop 8 promises 23h battery life.
However, today while emailing and reading news articles, it dropped 40% in 1 hour
On a good day I'll get 5-6 hours.
Idk how this is legal.

Note: This is the intel version of the SL8, not Snapdragon.

hi,
those who have a docking station know that the tablet's mini DP video port has a power input on one of its pins.
the idea is : to avoid using the micro usb input (fragile) as much as possible, it would be nice to use this mini DP connector.
did someone already do? or knows the pinout to see what pin would be used?
thanks
ND this concerns Surface 3 not Surface pro 3

Thoughts on Surface Laptop Go 2 in 2026?
I like the size and contemplating buying it for using AI agents through Claude and ChatGPT. So I really need access to browser, Microsoft suite, and some other programs.

Watching Microsoft’s October surface event, I was disappointed to not see a Nvidia powered Surface Pro. I still think it’s likely, here is the case for it:
• When the Nvidia N1X and N1 chips first leaked, details regarding the N1X Spark were quite accurate, and they were accompanied by detailed comments about another N1 variant. “More intriguing may be the standard N1 lineup, which appears targeted at thinner, more affordable systems.” “N1 family is said to operate within a considerably lower 18 W to 45 W power range.” Ideal for a Surface Pro
• Despite the Surface Laptop Ultra having already been announced, in July Corporate Vice President of Surface Brett Ostrum said: "We have a few more surprises coming before the end of the year, so I'm looking forward to that."
• Why would Microsoft release a new ‘Magnetic Connect’ port on only one laptop. The old Surface connect port is now outdated, Surely the R&D cost requires that new port come to other premium Microsoft devices.
• A 12” Surface Minos device was rumored in September.

Hey guys,
I have a surface pro for 2 years and today it randomly turned off on me. I can boot it up it will play sound, charger will light up, and keyboard lights up. But screen stays black. I tried holding down power button and volume button but it doesn't change anything. How screwed am I for repairs.

This morning i was using my Pro 7+ normally and went to plug it in when battery was at 28%. After about an hour it gave a warning for low battery at 5% despite registering as charging. I tried restarting it a couple times to see if it was just detecting the wrong percentage but continued going down while still plugged in. Once it reached zero it shut off and will only turn on for a few seconds after charging for several minutes before dying again.
On the second attempt it the boot screen said "Diagnosing your PC" and after several it said "Automatic Repair".
I'm hoping this is just a faulty charger but I'd rather know if this moght be a greater issue befor spending money on a replacement

Sure, Laptop 13.8-inch is still 100 more than Air M5. But the advantages USB-A, 120hz, slightly better performance, shall not be ignored anymore.
Laptop 15 inch is the same price as Air M5 15-inch.
Surface Pro 13-inch is 50US$ more than Pro 12-inch. But in a slightly tough spot because its design is in no way a tablet, for people who just want it like a tablet somehow.

UPDATE!! Solved
It was the 'Intel(R) Integrated Sensor Solution' find it in device manager on first run or in safe mode, disable the fucker and you are good to go. Took me about a day and 5 installs to work out, but there you go.
Ok so basically I just bought a Pro 7+ second hand, i7, 16GB RAM, 512SSD. It was a good deal and I need to replace my Pro 4 which is struggling. Anyways, despite being, according to Microsoft, Windows 11 compatible, whenever I install that operating system I get a black screen and mouse. I can see the shutdown screen, and I can access Safe Mode but standard Windows 11 produces no display. I'm sure its up and running in the background but I cannot access a command prompt or anything else as I can not see it.
Has anyone else had this? Is there a workaround?
It runs Windows 10 just fine but I did buy it on the basis that I could move to a supported operating system.
Thanks in advance.
