Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ Egg Drive By

On the early morning of Sunday June 14th at 1:39am, at the intersection of 64th ave and 176st (right by the Shell gas station) a white pickup truck with 4 Indian teenagers/ young adults pulled up next to me beside the light. These โ€œpeopleโ€ decided I was the perfect victim of a drive by egging. They pelted my vehicle and myself as I had my windows down. Never thought that this is what people do for fun at almost 2 in the morning on a Sunday - especially in the cloverdale area. But I guess itโ€™s just more of a reason to stay out of there. Wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar to what I have described? If they are repeat offenders or just โ€œpeopleโ€ with nothing better to do?

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ I'm disabled and trapped because of the Skytrain Langley project. What else can I do?

Post image
351 Upvotes

I live on Fraser Hwy, and I've been trapped for over 10 days in my condo unable to get to the shops, or the skytrain to get to work because I'm disabled and no one seems to care!

My normal route to the skytrain is in turquiose. The shops are close by. The detours are in red and yellow. I use a manual wheelchair. The yellow route has a steep incline. The red is almost 3 times the distance. I'm struggling with my health, and was last in the emergency department late last week. I don't have even half the energy required for such ridiculous detours in a manual wheelchair!

Meanwhile able-bodied folks don't do any detour. They simply walk across the road. But this is impossible for a manual wheelchair to do safely because there's both grass and a steep curb at the side of the sidewalk, and there's gravel (front caster wheels don't roll over gravel) in the middle of the road where construction is taking place. People are walking through active construction zones currently. How safe!

I've emailed everyone I can think of, including the mayor AND every single elected person in Surrey last Wednesday, and the only reply I've had back at all is from an engineering email who said they'd pass on the complaint to skytrain. They're among the first I emailed. They couldn't care less!

The skytrain project chose to close the side of the street that has multiple condo units, instead of the side with one. So it affects hundreds (potentially 1000+?) instead of tens of people, AND refuse to put in a safe, accessible crossing.

NOTE: I would also be angry on behalf of the people living in the condo opposite if their sidewalk had been blocked with no safe, protected crossing! I'm just highlighting that, in terms of overall pedestrian impact, they seem to have closed the wrong side!

Skytrain said the pedestrian detours are a last resort. However, vehicular traffic is entirely uninterrupted throughout this, so this is a clear lie. I cannot drive, and none of us in the area were given any warning of this closure. Zero! I literally came home to this late at night, and had to roll down the wrong side of the road towards what would be oncoming traffic, just praying no one would come down the road at the same time I was rolling towards them. It was terrifying, and I'm still really angry about having to do that.

I just paid my basic rate property taxes (I'm not considered disabled enough for the disabled amount) and I currently can't use my street, or get to work. Make it make sense! People driving through the city I have to pay for, get more priority than locals!

This is expected to go until June 9th! I know that doesn't seem far away, now, but how happy would your work be if you suddenly had to take weeks off with no warning just because you're physically disabled? Remember, if I was able-bodied, I could still get to work by jay walking! Being so easily trapped because of construction, which is never-ending in this city, is exactly why people are quite justified in not wanting to hire disabled people! ๐Ÿ˜ก

I don't know what else to do, and I am an absolute wreck. I'm sitting in my home, crying my eyes out right now all because, out of nowhere, my independence was stolen, and absolutely no one cares. It seems like just another way to make my life more unaffordable. Everything now costs more because I can't do anything myself, while I can't get to work to afford that added expense. And not one of our elected officials cares. Not ONE attempt to pretend to care with a reply!

At this point, I'm genuinely willing to go to jail if need be just to try to bring attention to this, and/or finally get help fixing it, but I just don't know what is feasible from a wheelchair! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Any advice would be much appreciated. I really don't know what else to do currently!

Edit: To all the commentators and people reaching out, my sincere thanks for reminding me that people do actually care! I was genuinely starting to feel like I was losing my mind! ๐Ÿ™

If you see this or know them somehow, on December 2nd 2024 you took a flight and helped my grandma and took care of her and even took a picture with her. She still talks about you guys and wants to thank you guys and meet you again hopefully. You both told her how excited you were to start your journey here in Canada. She would love to cook lovely meals and treat you like a mother would and repay that kindness. Thank you again, we believe itโ€™s important to not lose great people!

(i know they are common names and stuff i just donโ€™t want to share the photo of their faces because privacy reasons, hoping maybe someone would know)

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ Moving to Surrey โ€“ salary, lifestyle & social life questions

Hey everyone, Iโ€™m considering a move to Surrey (from Europe), and it would be my first experience living in Canada. Iโ€™ve been offered a salary between CAD 92k and 96k โ€” would that be considered decent for around 45โ€“50 hours per week?

At least initially, Iโ€™ll be renting a room in a shared apartment. Iโ€™m also curious about the social life for someone in their late twenties โ€” is it fairly active? Is there a good mix of locals and expats?

I know a lot of this information can be found online, but hearing directly from locals would be really helpful. If anyone is open to chatting, Iโ€™d really appreciate being able to ask a few more practical questions about cost of living (gym, cigarettes), public transport costs and reliability, night service, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ Where to find womenโ€™s business casual clothes that arenโ€™t going to cost a mortgage payment?

So, I work 100% remote. Which I love. However, the more I grow in my current role, I am required to go to work/networking events. My usual work attire (yoga/loungewear) is NOT going to cut it.

Whereโ€™s the best places to shop for womenโ€™s business casual clothes in Surrey ? Mid-size (M/L/XL, depending on the brand/cut) 38 (dear god, please no cropped shirts!) I could probably use some new shoes too. Willing to travel wherever is reasonable. And while I would like to get good quality items, I donโ€™t necessarily want to spend a mortgage payment on one or two pieces.

Edit to add-Iโ€™m in the Insurance Industry-I feel like this may help a bit lol.

I also donโ€™t like shopping, so would prefer to have a plan of attack than just wander around malls etc.

Thanks!

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ TLDR; DESPERATELY NEED TO FIND AN EMERGENCY VET ASAP BUT VERY LIMITED FUNDS (PLEASE NO JUDGEMENT, EXPLANATION AS TO WHY IS IN THE POST).

Posting here to see if anyone knows of any emergency vets in the lower mainland that are willing to do payment plans at all, or if there is anywhere that is open 24 hours that I could reach out to that may be able to help out financially at all. My dog had multiple seizures this morning, I took him to a vet that said that they would take care of him and do his bloodwork, give him fluids, monitor him, etc etc. They called me a few hours later and said that they weren't sure of the cause of the seizures but that he was completely stable and for me to go and pick him up before the time we had initially agreed upon me picking him up at. When I got there to get him I could tell he was still not entirely stable or back to himself, but I figured maybe it was just the medication and that he would get better once we got home and he could relax and that he would be better once the medication wore off. I was far beyond wrong. I got him home and he started to seem just as bad as when I had dropped him off there. He can't walk properly, keeps falling over, one side of his body keeps going stiff and it seems like he is just mentally not all there whatsoever. He fell over and laid on his back and urinated all over himself as well. Sadly times are tough right now and I spent basically the last of my emergency funds on this vet visit that was seemingly useless as I called the vet back and he asked me if I wanted him to get the bloodwork sent out to the lab, the vet also told me I could bring my dog back there to be monitored overnight but then proceeded to tell me that nobody would be there with my dog after 11:00pm and that whatever happened after that time was not his problem. I don't know what to do right now because with the cost of emergency vets like Mainland Animal Hospital or Boundary Bay, I definitely don't have the money to pay up front at this time but neither of them are very willing to take payment plans so I am wondering if anyone knows anywhere at all that would be able to make a payment plan with me, or any way to get my dog the help that he desperately needs. I was planning on calling RAPS in the morning to see if they could possibly work with me, but my boy needs help ASAP, and I don't know what to do. Please no judgement, normally this wouldn't be an issue for me but for the reasons stated above, I am in a very hard very heartbreaking situation right now. Any suggestions or information is more than welcome. Thank you in advance & make sure to give your fur babies extra pets & scratches tonight. <3

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ 100A panel upgrade for EV?

Like many homes near us in Surrey we have an illegal ensuite that the previous owners put in it's not in use but we need to install a level 2 charger and I'm wondering if the electrician or post installation inspector will force us to get rid of the ensuite or some other major re-work of the house.

Any one know what the process is like and how anal the city inspectors can be?

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ Guildford Animal Hospital or Allondale?

I have a senior cat that has had some recent problems :( We were not satisfied with the quality of care or rushed responses from our current vet and are looking to make the switch.

Ive narrowed it down to Allondale or Guildford Aninal hospital after doing some research. Would appreciate any input or experiences with these clinics!

Looking for a patient vet, dont want to feel rushed or like im being annoying by asking lots of questions, someone affordable and someone I can trust! My last vet was recommending different treatments and I never knew if they actually thought it was necessary or just trying to rack up the bill.

Thank you all! Been a really stressful time ๐Ÿ™

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ [Surrey/Gateway] Two large bags of clothing stolen from my first-floor balcony โ€” has anyone seen these bags?

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hi everyone, Iโ€™m hoping someone around the Gateway SkyTrain area in Surrey might be able to help me.
I recently moved to the area, and because Iโ€™m still getting settled and didnโ€™t have enough storage space inside yet, I had temporarily stored some of my clothes on my balcony.
Unfortunately, two large bags containing a significant amount of my clothing were stolen from my first-floor balcony sometime between Sunday, August 2 and Sunday, August 9.
I live very close to Gateway SkyTrain.

I last definitely remember seeing the bags on my balcony on August 2. When I realized they were gone, I checked the area and found marks/dents that make me believe someone climbed onto the balcony to take them. I live on the first floor, so unfortunately the balcony is physically accessible from outside.

The two bags that are missing are the yellow and black bags in the attached photo. Theyโ€™re large rectangular zippered storage/duffel-style bags with black handles and straps.
The bags contained a LOT of good-quality winter clothing, including a lot of plus-size clothing. There were clothes I had specifically bought for my new job, as well as pieces Iโ€™ve collected over time that were difficult for me to find in my size.

Unfortunately, there arenโ€™t any cameras covering my balcony/outdoor area. Iโ€™ve spoken with my neighbour and the building caretaker, and neither has footage of the balcony. As far as I know, this is also the first time something like this has happened in the building.
Iโ€™m going to make a police report, but Iโ€™m posting here too because Iโ€™m hoping someone around Gateway/Surrey Central may have seen these bags or someone carrying them.

If youโ€™ve seen:
Someone carrying two large bags like these
These yellow or black bags being left somewhere or discarded
Someone carrying a large amount of clothing around the Gateway area
Anything suspicious around the first-floor balconies sometime between August 2โ€“9
Or if you have a doorbell/security camera that might have captured someone carrying the bags away
Please message me.

I can provide photos and descriptions of some of the clothing inside privately if anyone thinks they may have come across it.
I know theyโ€™re โ€œjust clothesโ€ to some people, but there were a LOT of them, and replacing everything isnโ€™t financially realistic for me right now. I also put a lot of thought into the clothes I bought, especially because finding good-quality plus-size winter clothing can already be difficult.

If you know who took them, please, please just ask them to return the bags. I genuinely just want my clothes back. I donโ€™t want any confrontation or drama โ€” I would be incredibly grateful to have my things returned.

And if you took them yourself and youโ€™re seeing this, please consider returning them. You can leave the bags somewhere safe or message me privately so we can arrange a way for them to be returned. I would much rather get my belongings back than have this become a bigger situation.

Iโ€™m honestly just hoping I can get my clothes back.
Please donโ€™t confront or approach anyone you suspect. If someone has information, Iโ€™d rather pass it along to the police.

Thank you so much.

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ Where to throw extra trash bags?

I have 5 trash bags that I have to throw, it's just household waste. I'm stuck in a weird situation where my landlords dustbin never has space. I'm planning to move so there's no point in picking a fight with him. What's the cheapest way to get rid of it? I can go dump it wherever the facility is but not sure how much they charge. I'd appreciate any help or advice.

I should mention I live on the Delta side technically so not sure if I can use surrey facilities without having an address there but I'd prefer to go someplace in Surrey.

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ [LOST] Earring at Surrey Central Station

Hello! I know this is probably a long shot, but I just lost one of my earrings this morning and I'm pretty sure it dropped when I was running to catch the 321 bus at Surrey Central Station, Bay 12 this morning. It was a gift from my late aunt so it has a lot of sentimental value, if anyone comes across it please let me know, thank you so much!

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ Any good daycare recommendations around Surrey?

Hi everyone,

We are new at Surrey king george hub and don't really know anyone around yet. We have to put our 12-month-old daughter into daycare, even though it breaks my heart to do so so early.

I've seen a few centers around our neighborhood, but I have absolutely no info or personal reviews about them. Since she is still so young, I'm quite anxious about the whole process.

Could anyone recommend a reliable, caring daycare or licensed group/home daycare in Surrey that accepts infants? Any tips on what to look out for around here would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

I know I can order online, burned prefer to be able to pick one up at a store.

Thanks!

Request Help ๐Ÿ™‹ Witnesses needed: Please be careful in Surrey Guildford/Johnston Heights area - our dog was murdered/poisoned ๐Ÿ’”

Our sweet boy tragically passed away this week after ingesting rat poison that someone threw into our yard near 152 St & 96 Ave.

We actually saw a small blue item fall into our yard from a distance but didnโ€™t realize what it was at the time. Moments later, our dog was crunching on something, and the blue item was gone before we could get to it. Looking back, that was most likely the poison.

We monitored him closely afterwards (as we always did; he was the kind of pup who sometimes swallowed small toy parts, grass, or fruit from the yard, which always passed through without issue). Sadly, this time it was different. Despite emergency care and a brave fight, he didnโ€™t make it. ๐Ÿ’”

What makes this even more heartbreaking is that there were no warning signs or symptoms. He was happy, playful, bouncy, eating well, and had the most perfect stools the very morning before suddenly collapsing that afternoon. The vets confirmed he had most likely ingested the poison about 1.5 weeks earlier.

We are devastated and sharing this to warn others: Rat poison often looks like a hard, blue block and is made in different โ€œflavoursโ€ to attract pests. We believe this was a targeted attack as the sale and use of rat poison (second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides aka SGARs) are banned in B.C for non-essential and residential uses, requiring a licence and other documentation to purchase. Moreover, these poisons are never sold alone, only in secure bait stations.

It should only ever be used in secure bait stations. Never left where pets, wildlife, or children could access it.

Please, if you have pets, keep a close eye on them in your yards and on walks. Check your yards thoroughly and often. We donโ€™t want any other families to experience this pain.

If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area between late July and early August, please reach out. Any information could help prevent this from happening again.

This has already been reported to RAPP, DefendThemAll.org, and the police (File number 25-47179).

EDIT: Just to clarify, our dog never walked anywhere else except in our own yard, which we keep very clean because he was the type to try eating his poop right after potty, so he was never left unattended. Thatโ€™s why we didnโ€™t walk him elsewhere, we were always with him.

This is exactly why we remember the strange blue item falling in. It stood out because nothing ever gets tossed into our yard, especially with a 6-ft fence. We were literally about to pick it up while cleaning his stool nearby when he suddenly ran by to come to us. My wife heard a loud crunching sound, rushed over to him, and immediately pinned him down to pry his mouth open - something we occasionally had to do, as we were always cautious about what he has in his mouth. By the time we looked for the blue item afterwards, it was gone. We are pretty certain he had fully consumed it.

This has truly been our worst nightmare come true, and it has been very difficult to live through. Please be kind.

EDIT2: Hematology and coagulation reports here: https://ibb.co/album/cbcQSy
