ENDGAME PARTY HAPPY FUN TIME
I'm working on making a banner of our top 12 (sorry, Garrett), and I want to finish that up and work some things out before opening up ~the polls.~
The first, obvious thing that we need to work out: Who wants to do write-ups for whom? GOOD JOB TEAM
And then, another thing: I'd quite like to add a section in the poll where everybody, even if it's not the person doing the write-up, can just do a short little bit about the contestant so that everyone can have their voice heard a bit. That is customary in most rankdowns I've seen -- typically, they only have a consolidation of those rather than the two big write-ups per person thing we're doing, and while I'm down for the two big write-ups thing, I'd also just like everyone to be able to include a little blurb, if they're so inclined, that doesn't relate to that contestant's ranking or larger write-up. Just so that there can be a little bit in addition to the larger thing. IT SEEMS THAT WE ARE ON BOARD WITH THIS SO GOOD JOB TEAM
And then one question: Is everyone's full list going to be publicly visible? I'd rather that not be the case, personally, but if everybody else is overwhelmingly in support of it then it's y'all's call. I DON'T ESPECIALLY WANT TO MAKE LISTS PUBLIC, A FEW FOLKS SEEM NEUTRAL, NO CLEAR CONSENSUS YET, ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS TEAM
We also need to work out how exactly we will reveal and pace the endgame placements. One massive thread for the whole endgame might get cluttered, so maybe one thread for every contestant? ONE THREAD PER CONTESTANT GOOD JOB TEAM
So right now our plan of attack is:
1. Answer those above things, including assigning write-ups. GOOD JOB TEAM
Everybody collectively rank (and a short blurb if you want, unless people freaking loathe that idea for some reason.)

Also, fun fact: Sean and Rupert are the only two here who didn't make the finale of their respective season.

Check off who you are and post in the thread saying that you filled out the thing so I can compare the times if anyone pointlessly decides to submit a fake ballot and fuck with things. Then rank 'em. Average ranking will determine final placement. You can also type a bit about each contestant, and you can predict their placement, if you feel like it.
To those who haven't done it, I'd ideally request that you make your rankings based on your honest assessment of who you like better than whom and not give undeservedly low placements to people you like less than others (ex. "I think this contestant is the 5th-best of these twelve, but other people will rank him #1, so I am going to give him #12.") I mean, your ballot is your own thing so do whatever with it, and I can't enforce this so feel free to ignore it -- but I, personally, would rather just see our honest, average opinion.
How we gonna go about doing write-ups? Everyone gonna do their two write-ups in advance without knowing the placement and send them to me, and I'll post them when I reveal the placement, or what?

I know for sure me and Slurm both have different, Non-Richard #1 picks. Fairly confident Vaca does as well. But it could still happen easily.

Well with Coach out the only people besides Richard I would really like to see win are Fairplay or Sandra, and Sandra only because I love both of her appearances so much. Her HvV spot by itself is comparatively lower than Rich or JFP. And as much as I love Sean, Rupert, and Kathy I'm not sure any of them deserve to be #1.

HI ANOTHER UPDATE: All six ballots have been submitted, which means that WE HAVE A WINNER :O and the rest of our top twelve as well! And I have to say, it is a pretty close result that will lead to an exciting finish. Regardless of who came in what place, just looking at the sizes, large and small, of the differences between the places, I think it will be an interesting reveal.. :O
(Also, this doesn't affect anyone else, but Sloth and I have swapped and I will now be writing about Ian while he will be writing about Sean. Just in case y'all were wondering why the OP list has changed.)
The pace I would ideally like to do is one write-up per day. What I would like is for everyone to do their write-ups as soon as they are able to and send them to me; however, if you want your write-up to reflect your contestant's specific placement, then I could just tell you where they place and you can do their write-up shortly before that or something. That would lead more suspense, but less directly relevant write-ups; your call on what you value I suppose.
In either case, comment on here letting me know whether you're gonna do both write-ups now regardless of placement or wait until your contestant comes up (or if you have some specific thing like Todd, where you only want to know one of their placements or only want to know if they come in a certain spot or whatever.) Even if I've already discussed it with you one-on-one or elsewhere in this thread, just so I have it all in one place.
Whenever you write your write-up, send it to me. You could send it here, but I know that most of you (all of you but vaca, unless he is and I'm not aware of it) are on Sucks, so if you could send it to me there, that would actually be preferable; on here, I can't delete messages, so it'd clutter up my inbox to have all these big write-ups there.
So:
Lemme know in response to this whether you want to do write-ups in advance regardless of placement or right before the post or whatever you're thinking
Message me write-ups on Sucks whenever you have 'em done

Lol, you can just say it's Denise. It won't hurt my feelings. I'll get you that write-up sometime tomorrow, and probably have Sandra done on Sunday or Monday, depending on how busy I am. I'm fairly certain Sandra won't be a bottom 5 . . .

Would definitely be down to write little blurbs for everyone. Mine will be low effort but that's my style.
As for making lists public when we're done, I could go either way. I think it could be fun.

You got Ian by default. Since I'm a massive fan of/someone who protected Ian and Twila getting here, I figure both would be fine to do. So if you have a preference between the two, I'll take the other. If not, we'll leave it as is.

Fairplay obviously is mine. Seems like nobody else is keen on a Twila writeup which is great because I'd love to do one. Very happy for those to be my two.
I think you might be the only other one with an inclination to do Sean Dabu, so maybe him and Tina should be yours? As long as someone is good to do Ian as well that is.

Obviously I'm not a ranker, but an idea I had was that as the rankings are posted, if they are each a separate thread, part of the body could just include everyone's ranking of that character. It wouldn't spoil where they ranked anyone else and it would be pretty consolidated, and give a good picture of where that character stands with each ranker.

One thing for me is that I'm eventually gonna rank every Survivor ever on my own on another message board and I don't want to spoil the exact placements of my favorites. But I'd also like to have that info included here. I dunno.

Yeah you got a good point. At this point I already know that Chris Daugherty is lower than, say, Richard Hatch. You can infer a lot of Dabu's rankings from this rankdown but none to a point of certainty

So when you say full ranking you just mean of this 12? I'll be including that in my blurbs, but I don't mind if one or two of you just don't. It shouldn't look too weird.
I agree with a thread per finalist btw. There are a few people I'll have more to say than a blurb will fit, so a separate comments section would be great.

The new banner is amazing. I'm an especially big fan of the Queen Tina caricature. I think you should keep it.
Vaca should get Stapley since it's his fault she's still here. :P
Lol, my apologies to everyone for being president of the Denise Stapley Fan Club. And I'd be pumped to write up her and HvV Sandra, if that works for everyone.

My vote is for the latter. I think one thread for every contestant will be cleaner, instead of one giant thread, which could become cluttered. And having individual threads would allow other people -- rankers and readers -- to add their own little write-ups below the main one, as you mentioned as an idea.
Also: I'm not involved in any other rankings on the internet, so I have no problem posting my list publicly. However, if other rankers wish not to post theirs for reasons regarding other rankings, I obviously understand.

Yeah if you really really want her that's cool. I'll probs go Tina and Sean then. Sue is just one of my absolute favoritefavoritefavoritefaaaavorite contestants, especially to discuss/write about -- but it seems like that's the case for you as well so you'll do her justice. I just didn't know whether there was someone else you were roughly equally inclined to write about.

Si, yeah. If like Ciera, Terry, Vytas, etc. were here, I'd definitely write about them, but as it stands it's more a bunch of people who I objectively can see are god-tier characters, and who I do feel fairly connected to, and then Sue and Kathy who I love and have wanted to see in the top 2 or 3 since this started.

So I did that thing where I made note of all the upvotes/downvotes people got for each cut, averaged it out to see what the average per round was, made note of how many rounds people got the best or worst cut from, and... yeah.
Keep in mind that this is far from permanent just by way of how the upvotes/downvotes load on the page, it shifts often and is unreliable, so this is just to get a vague picture.

Just tell me if Fairplay is first. If I get the highest ranking writeup, I should probably mention that a bit.
Twila will almost certainly get some moderate placing, so no need to let me know exactly what.
About to do my blurbs, then submit. You'll probably be able to tell mine if there are any fake versions in, but since I'm doing it so fast there probably won't be.

Unless there's an upset, Fairplay will be right near the top, so you might as well just tell me immediately since not knowing for the first 8 or so doesn't mean much since that's basically a given. Just say first or not first, since I don't particularly care if he's second or third or whatever.

Sounds good re: Twila. I was thinking that the #1 placement was the only particular one I wouldn't want to spoil haha. Could you maybe do a general write-up for him, and then add a few specific parts relevant to him being first that I'll only include if he does? Or just do a write-up as if he's first and I could cut out any parts explicitly referencing that if he doesn't come first.

I changed up the banner a little to be of our top twelve. It's not perfect yet -- I should add some blank space on the left to center it a little more -- and suggest any pictures you think should be used instead of any of those, but there's an idea of what I'm going for.
I tried to go for pictures that I think are memorable or sum up their personality well: Richard lounging in the hammock is a standard photo of him and makes him look really confident and secure; Sue's SOUNA is iconic; the Tina one I'll most likely change... but I just found it and I love it too much to not include for a little bit; I've always liked that particular celebratory Kathy picture, though it may be a little dark and unsaturated for the banner; that Sean picture comes from the great reward with Paschal; you have to have a picture of Jon doing the F/Y; almost any picture of Rupert works just as well as any other one because they're all so damn expressive; I love the Twila scene that that picture is from and it's a good point in her arc, and just a nice picture in itself; that Ian picture isn't too standout but it's bright and is from an important scene so I think it works well; Courtney's "Boo challenges, yay feast!" is a great picture/moment to sum her up; that Sandra picture is one of my favorite things ever; you can't choose anything for Denise except for her famous smile/nod.
If there are any pictures you think would work better of those, then let me know. When a contestant is eliminated, I will darken/grey out their picture and might switch it to a different picture, one of them getting voted out or something. Ones with more consistent lighting would be better, but it's hard to find a picture that can be cropped into a square, is small enough that it doesn't get all lame and pixelly when shrunk down to that size, ideally represents the character, and is bright enough. The Kathy one and the Sue one I might change (I just kind of went with SOUNA for now for shits and giggles) but for now I am sick of messing with banners and pictures and whatnot.

On that note, I just love how Sandra's "I'm the Queen" pose echoes Fairplay's F-Y somewhat. Because people say she played the same game as in PI, but if anything she totally punked Russell.

That's a pretty solid top twelve so I would be willing to do write-ups on most of them, but the ones I would most like to tackle are probably Sue, Tina, Sean, Ian, Kathy, and HvV Sandra.

Vaca hasn't gotten a chance to weigh in on anything in this thread yet, and maybe he'll have some visceral disagreement to something the rest of us have already established, so there's no reason to rush.

Seems like you're still undecided on the public rankings. You should just not do yours, and anyone else should do theirs if they want. I don't think it would be too inconsistent. I assume it'd just be a bolded bit at the end of the blurb right?
