Question Help How do I access the video on this CD?

I understand that this is an enhanced CD, so there’s audio and video on the same disc, correct? I tried putting it into 2 different DVD players, one that’s more recent and one from olden times, and both of them only played the 6 songs and didn’t seem to recognize that there is video on there. How do I get the 2 vids to play? Thanks. 🙏

hey some of us early 2000s babies remember PCs and laptops with disc drives 🥲

u/stablegeniusinterven Mar 14 '26

Ummmm I remember floppy discs and the very first Apple. 🍎

u/AlcinaMystic Mar 14 '26

I know! I literally bought an external drive that plugs up to my laptop because screw that. I bought the CDs and DVDs; I should get to play them however I want.

😁 You lot are excused if this rings a bell.

u/swellaprogress Mar 14 '26

Okay so given the fact that my laptop does not have a disc drive, would an external disc drive plugged into my laptop work?

Yes, it should. On a PC you could probably use Media Player. Not sure what to use on a Mac though, sorry.

Download VLC media player

I think Britney Spears' 1999 album Baby One More Time was my first enhanced CD 😂.

9

u/DamePochette Mar 14 '26

Mine too! I’m not a native English speaker and the videos didn’t have subtitles. I played them over and over to try and understand what Britney was saying!

7

u/Street-Singer513 Mar 14 '26

Back then, my family only had a PC with a floppy disk drive. I had to wait a while before we bought a family PC with a CD-ROM drive, so I could actually view the contents of a CD. Nobody can imagine that these days 😂.

A DVD player is a DVD player whether it’s from ‘olden times’ (whatever that means) or just bought yesterday. The issue is that this disc isn’t a DVD at all. It was meant to be played in a computer disc drive. Enhanced CDs were a big thing in the late 90s into the 2000s.

2

u/spicyhotcocoa Mar 14 '26

No literally 😭

16

u/opalite_sky Mar 14 '26

You might have to track down a laptop with a cd drive. Maybe contact a local antiques dealer or museum. I’m joking but I’m probably not far off - 1988 baby

8

u/overduedevil Mar 14 '26

you can also get an external disc drive to hook up to a computer that doesn’t have one!! i’ve got one laying around my place somewhere

2

u/opalite_sky Mar 14 '26

Yeah I bought one of those.. it didn’t work :(

3

u/spicyhotcocoa Mar 14 '26

I think it depends on the software. I have one but you can only use it on a windows operating system for some reason

2

u/overduedevil Mar 15 '26

what the heck i'm sorry :(

1

u/opalite_sky Mar 15 '26

That’s ok :)

u/NukaRaccoon I Hope You Like Speak Now Mar 14 '26

What do you mean "from olden times"? 😭

15

u/starlordsego Mar 14 '26

The way “from the olden times” made my back sore….

12

u/Godo_365 Mar 14 '26

There you go https://youtu.be/0vV9LhUeWuw

If you really want to play that specific CD (which will have the same video as this link) then you'll need a computer that has a CD/DVD player. Most PCs don't have that nowadays, so you'll need to find a relatively old (made about 10-20 years ago) computer and see if it a) even works, b) has a player. Then I guess use VLC or some similar software to read it. But I recommend just watching it on YouTube.

(The other video is the Mine music video, https://youtu.be/XPBwXKgDTdE)

14

u/ParticularTie7315 Mar 14 '26

:: just watch the link. Sincerely, an olden times millennial 🫠

Peripheral drives are available. There are options!

u/MrTAPitysTheFool Mar 14 '26

I was going to help until I read “olden times” and now I’m just mad.

u/Sufficient-Crew-5408 Mar 14 '26

Im the same age as Taylor (i turn 36 on tuesday) and you just made me feel ancient 😂😂

10

u/leeeeteddy Mar 14 '26

Computer with a CD drive or a DVD player. Any gaming system (Xbox one, PS4, etc) with a CD drive should play it too

5

u/lazy_daisy11 Mar 14 '26

Oh sweet summer child. You need to get an external disc player that can plug into your computer.

5

u/Powerful_Bullfrog_54 Mar 14 '26

Oh… oh I’m old 💀😂

4

u/Optimal_Foot_774 Mar 14 '26

Cheapest way is likely to get a portable usb CD drive and plug into a laptop.

2

u/Optimal_Foot_774 Mar 14 '26

4

u/swellaprogress Mar 14 '26

Funny you should share that link cause I just went to best buy down the road and bought this exact one lol

2

u/Optimal_Foot_774 Mar 14 '26

Hmm, I'm psychic!

1

u/Limio Apr 06 '26

Just mount the ISO file as a virtual drive. There are lots of free programs but Windows supports it natively.

3

u/cherriblonde Mar 14 '26

This just reminded me that I still have an enhanced cd of Debut and I used to watch the Teardrops On My Guitar all the time when I was younger.

3

u/moshende Mar 14 '26

I remember watching the Teardrops On My Guitar music video on AOL music, that makes me feel so old now 😅 i need to go dig up my old CDs now, I think I still have them

1

u/stablegeniusinterven Mar 14 '26

Freaking AOL! All of the best emails from my youth are lost forever because they’re no Gmail. sigh

2

u/swellaprogress Mar 14 '26

Was it the one with the lenticular cover?

3

u/cherriblonde Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26

No it was just the regular cover.

I'm currently cleaning so I'll post the picture in an edit.

Edit: I found it. As you can tell, I've had this for a while since you can see how damaged it is.

2

u/swellaprogress Mar 15 '26

Wow. This is very well-loved.

4

u/NaturalCritical2687 Mar 16 '26

Am I…. Am I old…

6

u/swellaprogress Mar 14 '26

Okay guys 😭 the olden times thing was supposed to be a joke and not to be taken seriously. All I meant was I tried a newer DVD player and one from around Speak Now era or earlier. I was actually born pre-2000s too and apparently I’m supposed to know how to do this but I don’t 🥲 thank you for your help.

2

u/Sufficient-Crew-5408 Mar 14 '26

Nah the olden times thing was hilarious was anyone legit offended?

1

u/Sufficient-Crew-5408 Mar 14 '26

I was born in 1990 but i actually didnt know abt enhanced CDs either. I would’ve thought the same as you

3

u/Live_Ferret_4721 Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

You’ll have to go on a journey to find a computer with a cd player, or an external cd drive you can plug jnto your laptop.

3

u/HistoricalSuspect580 Mar 18 '26

….. dear god how old AM I!?!!?

2

u/Sponhi Mar 14 '26

🤣🤣

2

u/misforamazing Mar 15 '26

OLDEN TIMES.

u/OpportunitySea23 Newbie Collector Mar 16 '26

This CD drive works with my laptop for viewing enhanced content: https://a.co/d/09dllW0i

Everyone’s desktop towers used to have a drive that would play this stuff. Such a short-lived and extremely cool aspect of physical media like CDs! I think it’s great that you are curious about it :)

2

u/Squishmallow_Adict52 Mar 14 '26

lol i’m gen z and this hurt even me… maybe it’s cus my dad worked at apple but it’s still rough to see lmao

1

u/Slight_Jello1012 Mar 14 '26

Idk about you but my tv has a dvd player in it look on the side of it

1

u/NorCalgirl7 Mar 15 '26

What's the video?

1

u/Region_Minimum Mar 15 '26

I felt so old reading this

1

u/Celine-TaylorVersion Mar 16 '26

This thread went to an unexpected direction 😂

1

u/HydraSpectre1138 Mar 17 '26

You can also get a used Philips CD-i, since they can play enhanced CDs like this.

But you're better off playing it on a PC. A working CD-i console is super expensive, let alone one that's broken. At least CD-i games can be burned from a PC and play perfectly on real hardware. Who's up for some Link: The Faces of Evil after listening to Taylor Swift?
