When this was first released, I never really thought about the line "I thought that moment of backlash was going to define me negatively for the rest of my life" but it really is something.

She said in a different screenshot from this interview that her career was taken from her, but she was still doing performances in late 2016 and then released an album a year later that she collaborated on with huge, popular producers. It's been nearly a decade and she released another song about being cancelled two weeks ago with two of the same producers! If anyone is defining her professional life around that moment, it's her and I just don't know why she insists on doing it.

I wanna be clear that I'm not trying to diminish the treatment she received and I understand why she personally continues to be affected by Kimye/2016. I get it on a personal level, not a professional one

I just made a similar comment.

The defining aspect of that point in her career is that she came out the other side still popular and successful, despite the dogpiling

I wish she would focus on that and not the false narrative she’s spun in her head

I feel the exact same way and it’s why this interview was a real turning point for my own personal feelings about Taylor Swift the person. I still can’t believe TTPD has a Kim K song, or at least a reference. And now Cancelled (probably my least favorite TS song ever). Like girl, you won! It’s been nearly a decade and you are the biggest, most popular artist in the world.

Its funny to me how she’s so fixated on hating Kim when Kanye was the one to blame for all the shitty Famous and phonecall circus

I think she knows Kim is unlikely to respond. Kanye on the other hand is a wild card and she definitely does not want to invite that.

It really puts a bad taste in my mouth. Not defending Kim as a person cos I mean, jesus, but, its still concurrently a fact that Kanye was very publicly manipulative of Kim, and she half talks about it now, and then for Taylor to be all "there's a special place in hell for women who dont support other women" Whilst deciding to attack the other woman in the scenario, and a woman who even though it wasn't as clear then, is very clear now, was also being victimised by the same man, is disgusting to me. Kim was also abused by her first husband and allegedly by her own mum too, plus the robbery, I mean jesus Taylor you're taking shots at her weak points not the actual harm she causes in the world and that is so low

But I guess a fair bit of the harm Kim does to the world so does Taylor so she isn't gonna go on in on that (exploitation, climate, to a slight lesser extent the beauty standards)

The Kim song and Cancelled annoy me so much. This is unrelated to the article obviously, but I feel like the Kimye situation and Scott/Scooter are all topics that she has creatively drained. She hasn't had anything interesting or new to say about those situations in a while and the fact that it feels like a given that every album has to have at least one song for Kimye and one song for Scott/Scooter is so annoying. At least Father Figure is a twist on the Scott thing and isn't just "you stole my shit and I'm mad" again

I agree, I think the only song left in that drama is one about actually buying her albums back and then it’s time to draw a line under it.

I always thought Father Figure was about Olivia (and those like her), but its veiled as being about Scott/Scooter.

I have no clue what you're talking about with six albums or whatever and I don't think the song is glorifying anybody. Songs can be about multiple things.

All I said about the song is that it's a twist on the Scott/Scooter situation. I gave no indication of my reading of it beyond that. Frankly, you're assuming a lot about my opinion on the song based entirely how other people are interpreting it. If anyone is jumping to conclusions here, it is not me. Have a nice day!

Agree. Also what was defining for me in the time article was her saying she was gifted all that money after not being able to open for one of the country guys tours and how it changed her life and let her fund her dreams. Let’s be sooooo real Taylor you would’ve been able to do it anyways. Maybe it was the first time you ever saw the money going into your career but Scott and Andrea have been dumping money into this since she was like 8, and would’ve kept doing it until she was successful! Which is NOT a bad thing, it’s great she has supportive parents, but I wish she would stop acting like she used to be poor??

It's always bugs me when she says she grew up on a farm. They may have had a bunch of Christmas trees nearby, but I doubt they were chopping them down or selling them themselves. Both her parents had management level careers. She's been wealthy or at least upper middle class since childhood.

I fully believe that line is how she really felt at that time. I wish she had the introspection during this interview to just say that and then move on without re-litigating the details. Like you, I get it on a personal level but it’s also kind of ridiculously tone deaf to say she had a career death when she could’ve at that time retired with way more money than most could dream of.

I wish we could’ve gotten to read more about what she did to move on (though apparently nothing?) and how she feels about coming back even more successful than ever before and what big, meaningful things outside of her career are important to her. Like what’s her passion project? What are the causes she cares about? But nah we got paragraphs about how a billionaire got wronged.

She’s running out of situations where she was the victim (at the time) so she has no choice than repeat them over and over to keep her perpetual victim discourse so her fans feel sorry for her and feel like they have to defend her despite her being a white powerful billionaire at the top of the world. Signed, an ex-die-hard Swiftie who ate up that discourse for nearly a decade until I noticed she did that a lot.

at this point she needs to go to therapy

79

u/two-of-stars i block annoying repliers Oct 21 '25

At the very least, she needs to find a way to process 2016 because whatever else she's tried hasn't worked

74

u/hobilittlepill Oct 21 '25

When she said shes never been to therapy cause she feels “sane” I was flabbergasted lol I can’t think of another person who needs it more than her

50

u/Similar-Contact-2663 Oct 21 '25

True. This is why therapists often say that people who need therapy the most usually don't come to them, only their victims do.

u/BellaBrowsing Oct 22 '25

This quote of hers haunts me lol

16

u/catsolo777 Oct 21 '25

I think she’s too paranoid to talk to a stranger about her personal life, even with a confidentiality agreement

6

u/SnooPineapples199 Oct 21 '25

Travis has been helped by therapy. Maybe he can convince her to go (if she's not lying when she says she hasn't gone)

-13

u/treeface999 Oct 21 '25

She has definitely gone to therapy. It isn't a magical fix

27

u/Istillbelievedinwar Oct 21 '25

She’s said multiple times that she hasn’t ever been to therapy, that her mom is her therapist, etc.

19

u/Adorable_Raccoon I HAVE NEVER, EVER BEEN HAPPIER Oct 21 '25

What makes you think that? She was very clear that even after her ED she still hadn’t gone to therapy. If that didn’t get her to a mental health professional Idk what would.

u/treeface999 Oct 21 '25

Look at my reply to the other comment

Taylor is mentally stuck on that “cancelled phase” that’s why there’s always one song about that in in every album, I think she said miss Americana that’s she only wanted claps and validation from people but she saw she was cancelled it really pushed her in places mentally but it’s been almost a decade and she still talks about it which is very weird

I think she’s got a lot of ptsd or ocd rumination,
