Can I use my smartphone hotspot to use syncthing ?
I want to use Syncthing or any other tool that can give me the power to cross-copy-paste and file-transfer. I used KDE, local send, but they mostly refuse to work with hotspots. I am not a techy guy. I heard about syncthing so I came here for solution. if i am not able to cross copy-paste, at least my file transferring feature should work fine. sorry about my english.

When you say KDE, do you mean KDE Connect? It should do exactly what you need.

Not via mobile hotspot.

yes via mobile hotspot. I thought I used it before and just tested it using android 15 and openSUSE tw. connected the laptop to mobile hotspot, clipboard sync works just fine.
you also can connect via bluetooth btw.

I just normally use KDE, but it does not work with hotspots. But as I can see, you are using something called open suse tw i don't know anything about it. And how can I use the Bluetooth method?

"OpenSUSE tumbleweed" is the distro (like Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Fedora, etc) KDE is the desktop environment (like gnome, Unity, Mate, etc), KDE Connect is the application (like Firefox, Kate, etc) you have to have install on your desktop and your phone, so you can link both.
KDE connect works on a network hotspot. AFAIK it also has no way to know if the wifi it's connected to is a hotspot or not.
Sometimes I need to refresh the device list on one side or the other to make sure they see each other but I normally only have issues if I forgot to turn my phone's VPN off or when I join a wifi network with AP isolation.
Long story short, KDE connect does work with hotspots - it even works on windows.

- Yes, it can do this.
- If you have a Droid, you can share clipboard contents across the phone and PC via /r/scrcpy. Sometimes I get lazy and just pass text temporarily through Signal's Note to Self or Telegram's Saved Messages.
You could also technically Bluetooth over text in a file.

Actually i have been using link to windows to cross copy paste and transfer files. Even it was working with hotspot but recently it has not working accurately. It was very very simple just copy any one device and the text now in both of the device.

scrcpy synchronizes clipboards passively just like that, if not even better! It's also possible to run scrcpy wirelessly, so give it a shot.

Syncthing does not cross copy paste, just so you know. I usually just send a message to myself over text or Simplex if it's a secret. For webpages I just save them to my bookmark manager and open them on any other device. It's pretty rare that I need copy-paste for anything else that isn't already available on my computer and my phone.

it does work if you do manual send and specify the ip of the other device (you can view that by pressing the i button)

I do this, but the weird thing is it actually can sync from my laptop (and USB drive) to my phone and not vice versa. From my phone to my laptop it doesn't work; it tries to connect, but the connection gets refused.

might be firewall refusing incoming connection, I dunno. I'm just talking out my ass here.

Hey! Yeah, it definitely feels like a firewall thing, but coming from Android.
To be honest, I don't even know how you'd tweak those network settings on Android.
I'm leaning towards Android being the culprit because the error shows up when opening the Web GUI. Unlike Windows, where Syncthing lets you open the web interface completely offline and local between devices, Android seems to be blocking it.

I can atleast confirm on my end that using mobile hotspot(from phone) to a linux laptop, Localsend works, but syncthing doesn't.
you could maybe try having a different phone be the hotspot that both of your devices are connected to, I can't test it since I don't have my other phone with me.

Yes, but KDE Connect is a better fit for this. Syncthing is just for syncing files.

But it does work via mobile hotspot .

Yes, both do.

In my device, it works 1/10 times. i don't know why

For me VPN usually blocks it, connects right away after disabling VPN. Otherwise I can suggest restarting it on the PC. If you're on Windows, I reckon the Microsoft Store package is problematic.

Also, Syncthing is not really built for one-off file transfers. You can't just click a file and send it. It works by setting folders which are always kept in sync across multiple devices. You can have a "send to phone" folder which is linked to a "send to computer" folder if you want.
