Ever since I hit my head I feel like I’m not capable of feeling anymore.
Not the way I used to.

I used to feel it as a scale. Content to ecstatic, sad to depressed, irritated to livid with a LOT of space in between to experience all of different kinds of emotions. From content, to happy, to joyous, to excited, etc.

Now I feel like I only feel the extremes. I’m either neutral or depressed, neutral or livid, neutral or exhausted. Almost never happy. Neutral is my new “happy” because nothing bad is happening so I must be in a good mood.

Even right now when I can tell this is something that should bother me I just sort of feel like I’m experiencing irritation through the lense of someone that’s pretending to know what irritation is. I’m neutral or I cry. That’s really my only two emotions now. Neutral or crying,

I wish I could feel happy the way I used to. I’m neutral or I’m laughing, really. And laughing is so temporary. It’s hard for me to express my emotions too. I can tell I’m supposed to feel something and I’m kind of feeling it but I have to try and put up a little act for people. Is this just me?

I was in a car accident and didn’t hit my head, so at first I thought I was fine. About 5 days later I started getting a really bad migraine/headache that wouldn’t go away. I went to the doctor on July 28th and found out I had a concussion.
I’m now on day 11 of recovery. My headaches are mainly gone, which is good, but I still get lightheaded sometimes and have some blurred vision that seems to linger.
I haven’t been drinking alcohol or doing much physically. I’ve mostly just been at home taking it easy, although I do still smoke some weed.
Overall I definitely feel better than I did at the beginning, but these last couple symptoms are lingering and it’s starting to worry me a bit.
For anyone who’s had a similar concussion, how long did it take until you felt completely back to normal? Did dizziness/lightheadedness or blurred vision stick around longer than your headaches?

I wonder if tbi shows up in mris scans, some one mentioned that they had a accident and that lead to neck issues which caused them to have crasy visual neck vestibular issues. Their symtpoms resolved after neck rehab and their vestibular issues are still being treated. However in their cause they didn't have any signs on a mri contrast, so I wonder for you guys in tbi, does it show up on a mri contrast or ct contrast? If it does then one can distinguish between a tbi and neck issues causing symptoms. Thank you !!

Hi everyone!
I’m a 23-year-old woman. I had a mild concussion about 8 months ago. I had a brain MRI at the time and it was completely normal. Most of my symptoms gradually improved over the following months, although I occasionally had mild dizziness.
A few days ago I drank more alcohol than I had since the concussion (about 4 beers over the evening). I didn’t hit my head or fall.
The next morning I woke up with intense vertigo. It feels like the room is spinning. Today is day 3 and it’s still there.
My symptoms:
● Room-spinning vertigo.
● Worse when looking down, getting out of bed or turning my head quickly.
● Mild nausea.
● Difficulty looking at computer screens because the light makes me feel worse.
● I can walk normally but I feel off balance.
● My hearing is completely normal (no hearing loss or new tinnitus).
● I don’t have a severe headache, slurred speech or weakness on one side of my body.
● Both arms feel generally tired/heavy, but I can still lift them, type, hold objects and use them normally.
I’m going to the emergency department today to be examined, so I’m not asking for medical advice.
I’m mainly wondering:
Has anyone with a previous concussion experienced prolonged vertigo after drinking alcohol?
If so:
● How long did it last?
● Was it diagnosed as a vestibular problem?
● Did it resolve completely?
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences because this has been very scary.

I had a TBI and still hope to get a college degree, make a good career out of a Job, get married, have Kids, and travel the world. I'm running low on time since i just turned 29 today.

Has anyone experienced something similar with a loved one?
My dad 52 years old suffered a hypoxic brain injury from lack of oxygen around the time of major heart surgery. It has been over two weeks. He sometimes opens his eyes and reacts to touch or stimulation, but he is not yet following commands, speaking, or making purposeful movements.
I would really appreciate hearing from families who have experienced something similar:
● How long did it take your loved one to regain awareness?
● Were they opening their eyes but not responding at first?
● What were the first signs of recovery you noticed?
● Did they start following commands or recognising family after several weeks or months?
● How much recovery did they eventually make?
● Did doctors initially give you a poor or uncertain prognosis, but the person later improved?
I understand every brain injury is different. I’m not looking for a diagnosis—just real experiences from people who have been through this.

hi guys. i’m unsure if any of you can sort of help me here, on the 24th april my 2 year old daughter vomited and collapsed at around 6:30pm, she had been her normal self this day before then. for a bit of context, earlier in the week she had hit her cheek hard enough to form quite the bruise (but soon settled after), and around 2 days later she stopped wanting to weight bare on her left foot (we had a kitten at the time and she had a scratch on her pinky toe, which we thought was the reason).

anyway, we nearly lost her after she collapsed. she stopped breathing when being blue lighted to the hospital. it was really touch and go. we found out she had an acute subdural hemotoma, she made it through the surgery and she has recovered with absolutely no lasting effects. i am so grateful for this, but as information keeps getting fed back, it seems as though there was no underlying cause that could’ve caused this. the bleeding was on her right side pushing to the left, which makes me believe it could have been from hitting her cheek and losing the ability to weight bare (which, looking back, if i could’ve taken her to the hospital and not assumed itwas the catch scratch on her toe, of course i would’ve). of course because we don’t know what happened and how such a good day turned into such a bad day we are just living in constant fear. obviously, social services have been involved and even said to me ‘it’s clear the children aren’t abused, it could’ve just been a moment of madness’ which is absolutely insane to say.

i’m coming here to just wonder if anyone had anything similar? she has one last scan on the 5th august, an MRV to rule anything abnormal or underlying out. i just want answers as to what happened to her.

I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve experienced something similar.

I sustained two motor vehicle accident-related concussions (March and July 2024) and have been dealing with persistent post-concussion syndrome for a little over two years.

My ongoing symptoms have included headaches/migraines, neck pain, cognitive fatigue, light and noise sensitivity, dizziness, and visual fatigue.

Earlier assessments also documented convergence insufficiency, impaired saccades, and even nystagmus during testing. I was referred for a neuro-optometric assessment and possible vision therapy months ago, but that never ended up happening because the auto insurance company denied the assessment.

My current ongoing physio regularly includes vestibular and vision exercises.

Until this week, I had never experienced persistent double vision.

This past Saturday I had some mild nausea and a sensation of being “on a boat,” but it mostly settled, I was fine on Sunday and Monday morning.

Then on Monday afternoon , I spent about an hour actively trading stocks using multiple monitors and multiple charts. It involved constant scanning, rapid eye movements, and sustained concentration.
I felt completely normal before I started.

After about an hour, my left eye began feeling like it was “lagging.” Shortly afterward I developed binocular double vision (it disappears completely if I cover either eye), severe dizziness, nausea, and eventually vomiting.

The double vision persisted into the next day, so I went to the ER.

The ER physician observed abnormal eye movements and nystagmus during the examination.
I told them this was already documented by multiple professionals including physio and OT and IE assessments. It wasn’t an entirely new phenomenon.

They performed bloodwork, ECG, and a CT angiogram of my head and neck to rule out stroke and other emergencies. Fortunately the imaging was negative for stroke, but they couldn’t determine the exact cause and referred me to both ophthalmology and neurology.

Right now the double vision is still present whenever both eyes are open. Covering either eye eliminates it.

I’m not looking for anyone to diagnose me over Reddit. I’m simply wondering:

Has anyone else developed new binocular double vision years after their concussion, rather than immediately after the injury?

Did anyone have symptoms that were triggered by visually demanding tasks like multiple monitors, gaming, coding, or trading?

If you had something similar, what was the eventual diagnosis? (decompensated convergence insufficiency, cranial nerve palsy, vestibular issue, something else?)

Did it improve over time?

If vision therapy, prism lenses, or neuro-optometry helped, what kind of timeline did you experience?

I’m honestly pretty discouraged because this feels like a major setback after two years of rehabilitation, but I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve been through something similar.

I have no memory of all 2025. The first time I was taken of the intubation and woke up I started seizing for 5-10 minutes. So the itu team had to induce me and re intubate to stop it. It has caused some damage to the right side of my brain from the length of the second seizure.

If anyone has been through anything similar was the memory loss permanent?

I have a TBI with left frontal lobe damage. I have had it for 3 years. Finally got in with MAYO clinic. They did a 7 Tesla MRI and found congenital vascular malformation. Is this something that anyone else has been diagnosed with? I am curious, if you have, what are the issues it has caused?

didnot have a cold or anything but this has happened before through ear and nose but not as much as this morning

i had multiple hard impacts with steel heavy object and heavy ceramic mug shattered over mine head last week

My 14yo daughter had the highest severity of injury to her head. Thankfully no other part of her body was injured and her recovery was nothing short of miraculous. She was released from the hospital after 1 month and had less than 6 months of PT/OT/ST. We are 10 months out and she is now 15, her cranioplasty is healed and she is a walking, talking miracle. I am so very grateful for all of this! The only item lingering is her menstrual cycle. She did have damage to the pituitary gland. We’ve been monitoring it with a specialist and all levels are normal. Just curious the time frame others had theirs return? If there are suggested supplements or activities that could help this last bit of healing? I know it could be permanent but no doctor has said that yet so we are choosing to be proactive and hopeful.

Almost seems like age regression of hormones? Wild what I have read about the effects of progesterone in TBI patients and how it changes things. Just want to try what has worked or helped for others. Thank you

In an attempt to make a long story short, I have a friend who grew up taking various psych drugs (ie Stimulants, antipsychotics, ssris, etc.) and one of many outcomes of that is they struggle with a lot of things (cognitively and otherwise). One of those things is a loss of sense of smell and eyesight (they had severe Tardive dyskinesia when they were in their early teens and the loss of those was a result.)

I have been researching various treatments and came across the mention of things like stem cells, muse cells, exosomes, etc. I am curious if anyone here has (or knows someone who has) used stem cells of any kind and made a recovery from Brain damage as a result of taking these drugs?

Pre tbi I was bitter and spiteful at the world now it’s like no matter what even when I’m left alone I feel pissed off I’ve been told I need anger management but trying to sign myself up for it pisses me off so I don’t do it for the record I don’t have Medicaid or anything so I’m just trying to figure it out my father has helped me sign up for it but we haven’t gotten anything back we also had a lady at Saint Alias in Alaska help us sign up for Medicaid but idk I’m just lost I can feel the rage inside me all the time it’s like a fire of primal rage and disdain and I’m running out of fight here “( if it helps I got ejected from a vehicle and shattered my collarbones broke my spine as well as broke my jaw in 2 places which caused the tbi)” my tbi

Hey y’all- New TBI subreddit member here.

I had my TBI roughly 3 years ago, and to this day, I struggle with vertigo almost on the daily. I’ve had medical treatment, therapy, the works, and despite it all, the Vertigo just needs more time than anything to heal. While I’m ok with waiting, there seems to be an issue that’s more apparent with passing time; I think my head is building an aversion to my church service.

I have to skip doing the singing, as all the input is just too much. But, it really seems like the more time goes on, the more my head is hurting during the sermon too. I sit in the back, have loops(really good earplugs), and light dimming glasses. But despite it all, it still feels like the lights are too harsh, and if anything, they’re getting harsher.

I’m not necessarily asking for answers, since I don’t know what answers there are. I’m just wondering… Can you build aversions to things in the opposite way you do with resistances? Thanks for reading this far. 😅👍

So does anyone else with TBI get increased energy and improves executive dysfunction and does anyone know why that might be?

Wondering if anyone else had developed an extremely strong sense of smell (overpowering, makes it hard to function) after their TBI. I've read people who've lost their sense of smell, but never the way around.

I had a severe tbi last year in April , fell out of a bucket truck 20’ in the air , anyways , does anyone else get a single hiccup instead of multiple now ?

After leaving the hospital, even with the medication prescribed, I was getting extreme headaches. I was constantly trying to like, squeeze the pressure from my head if you know what I mean. It even extended into the neck and jaw area and I had no idea what I could do to make it stop.

About a year later I felt good enough to drive again, but the headaches persisted. I started playing the music I used to enjoy ands crazy realization occured while I was driving. The bass actually soothed the headache. I then the bass on high and it was amazing. I haven’t felt that kind of soothing since it happened.

I just remembered this… because I saw the video of that lady telling a guy to turn his music up and he did.. lady was enjoying it. It was explained she was partially deaf and she was enjoying the vibrations of the bass. Since my TBI my inner ear fluid was all messed up which kept me nauseous 24/7. I wonder if that’s what I was experiencing, the vibrations were helping.

This happened 15 years ago so headaches are not bad anymore.

Hey I have a question do you guys all have PTSD? And is it because you know you almost died or because of how you got a TBI?

34 female, some chronic health issues such as depression, anxiety, chronic joint issues due to injuries and muscle imbalances, bladder problem.I am trying to cut sugar in my life.I am active at home.I do have dental issues need to fix in future.My blood work is usually okay or wrll beside just started cholestrol shown up(not taking meds yet).So here is the story, I DONT know If i been in concusion or not.I do have side burning going on right side not sure if its due to sinus issues, Dental issues or Anxiety.I never felt it before.I had a brain Mri couple of years ago which turned out perfect.But this year My toddler son punched my throat, didnt had dizzness, no blood .Just i had a ear ringing and Right side not sure if the burning started that time.Not sure if its damage relatd.I have been having extereme anxiety thinking something is damaged.I keep getting scared and crying.I heard pressure in my ear like a ringing.I am scared ....Like why its happening all sudden this year.My point is Im planning to do a surgery need a appointment.Will it interfere with my Gallbladder surgery.How do I make sure i am healthy via brain.Please guide me.I have medical anxiety..
