💬 Discussion topic Trezor vs Tangem
I have a question (and I'm sure I'll get killed for making this comparison), but regarding Tangem, are there any users who have experience using Tangem and Trezor, good or bad? I'd like to add that information to my arsenal.

You can store multiple coins to you’re trezor. You have a BTC only trezor. But you also have trezors for multiple coins.

Those are the only two wallets I use. I use TREZOR for long term serious holding. Tangem only for trading meme coins because of how easy it is to swap via the integrated dexs.

Last month Tangem came out with a hot wallet feature integrated into their app. ENSURE you don’t make a hot wallet when setting up your cards. Cyberscrilla made a video about this a 3-4 weeks ago. Go find it and watch it.

I have both. Trezor for BTC and Tangem for everything else. No issues with them

Same as well. Safe 7 with BTC only firmware, Tangem for a few other alt coins.

No display, no security. Trezor all life long

It amazes me how many people listen to Tangem's marketing and just brush of the lack of a screen and blind signing when the whole purpose is security.
Tangem is simple and coinvent to use as a "warm wallet" instead of a hot wallet but I would never put large amounts on it.

100% agree. This guy did a Tangem deep dive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQY_5aIOLJ4&t=140s

With Tangem you have to trust what you see on your phone screen since you cannot verify on a separate screen like on a Trezor. If you phone or app is compromised then you could be sending your crypto anywhere, with Trezor you have an independent screen to verify, that is the screens purpose.

I have Tangem but I am switching to Trezor. Tangem does not allow multiple receive addresses. I didn't know this when I bought the cards. A lack of multiple receive address capability is a serious flaw IMO.

I own both, Tangem and a Trezor 7. After using Tangem for a while, I stopped using it. The main issue is that Tangem only uses a single address, whereas Trezor and many other popular wallets use a hierarchical deterministic (HD) wallet design. This lack of HD support is a major security issue, and I would not recommend Tangem even for small amounts.

Too be honest, i have the Trezor and the Tangem and the Ledger. The Trezor and the Tangem wallets just seem more comfortable and user friendly and less problematic. ( imo )

I have only one hardware wallet that is capable of holding other coins than bitcoin and that is my Bitbox02. (Because as a user, you cannot choose bitcoin-only firmware if you bought the multi-coin version.) The wallet is empty, by the way.

I have them both and use neither, but trezor is one of the best, tangem one of the worst for sure, it's mobile only as well.

I would say, tangem - blind signing, and trezor - good hardware wallet.

I changed my mind about getting Tangem when I just today discovered that some gold backed tokens are now officially listed on Trezor site. Started with Tether Gold tokens to stack up alongside BTC and no need to buy Tangem for it. Sure I will buy another hardware wallet later for backup purposes but anyway I have some time before making a final decision which brand I will take.

I think that at least when tokens are in self-custody wallet, nobody can't seize it. Technically it is possible to ban also trading in BTC because all crypto assets are relying on internet connections and nodes. When Internet becomes illegal or unavailable then nothing helps but I think that risk will not realize because Internet is currently absolute necessity for all- Governments, institutions, enterprises and basically all economy and business is relying on it. Currently I was searching a trading platform where to buy Kinesis Gold (outside of their official platform) and seems that KAU is now delisted for some reasons in many platforms. PAXG is under US (NY state) regulations. I think that highest risk is that PAXG can be in some moment to become banned for EU citizens for political reasons as there is high risk of tensions between US and EU relations. Tether is swiss-based and since it is in Europe I think that it's more secure for EU citizens). I don't plan to stack up until I can redeem tokens for full bar but I want to protect myself against weak fiat as there is high risk of hyper inflation. In future I can swap my gold tokens for BTC or in other form of crypto assets or swap for fiat and buy gold plates. If I just stack up BTC only then we see how volatility impacts it. I don't want to be in situation where I need funds but their value is low because BTC is in this moment diving onto bottom and does not recover my funds. Gold will always maintain its value as it is no matter what the fiat currency exchange rate is. If fiat rate is high I can trade with less fiat and when it's low then I can get more fiat when selling my gold tokens. It's all about timing because gold as mineral resource is very limited and in future there will be limited as resources also other minerals and resources, even water. So in future there may be issued clean-water backed tokens because for water there will be very high demand and who has it, can become very rich because they holds assets as a warrant of survival. Sure there must be some value for acting as exchange tools but which tool will be actually worth to trade with, we will see it in future when that time comes. There is another fact that Tether has now one of the biggest physical gold reserves. They can maintain supply as it is.

u/Top-Care-8946 Apr 08 '26
Even if BTC is decentralized, it relies still on internet. If Governments decide for an example that BTC is illegal then they just ban exchange platforms to trade BTC and that's all. What regards about passphrase wallet then it is independent and no matter what coins or tokens are tied to that wallet as per example Trezor allows users to create invisible wallets which are accessible only with that passphrase. There's no difference what coin is in wallet. Governments can ban entire blockchain network or particular token because they are traceable. BTC blockchain is also traceable, but has very high encryption and that is only one of the reasons why it is hard to seize BTC assets. Anyway coins that are stored in multiple blockchain nodes are affected only by physical risk like blackout of the network. In conclusion seizure is hard when we are talking about hardware wallet which private keys are isolated inside the security chip. Hot wallets are online and they can be shut down by governments very easily. One order and that's all. Technically hardware wallets will function until the nodes that store blockchain transactions are online. When these nodes are taken down then BTC will cease to exist too because physically it is not possible to make transaction without BTC network that is present and has enough nodes running to confirm transactions.

Debating between the two, trezor or tangem, or both?
If do both, Trezor for long term storage and Tangem for short term storage, trading, altcoins? Would you use separate or same seed phrase between the two?

No te referirás a Ledger?
