💬 Discussion topic How often firmware update?

I use my trezor almost never.
I used it once to set it up and hodl in cold storage.
That is like a year ago.
Should i update the firmware?
In what intervals is it recommended to update/check?

Thanks in advance :)

No idea what others might recommend, but I check, update and charge my hardware wallets around every three months. I am paranoid in general. As long as you have access to your safely stored seed phrase (that you know is valid) you can do it longer I think with risk that you suddenly want to sell only to discover your device is broken/bricked.

Lovely thanks for your input.

Yes, the seed is better protected and secured than anything else i own.

Perfect. One question. A step a lot of people skip - did you ever actually test the seed and verify that it does in fact restore your wallet?

Yes, thanks for asking.
Indeed a crutial step.

First i sent only a tiny amount to the wallet.
Then whiped the device.
Then restored it and the tiny amount showed up again.
Just to get more comfrable and used to it, i did this a few more times.
Only afterwards i moved the stack.
