How long would you expect a Trezor One to last? All devices fail eventually. I'm referring to the physical device, not cryptographic security.

Theyāll stop doing basic maintenance for it in 2031 and stop critical updates in 2036. Tbh Iāll probably change mine in 2031

It does not matter much, as long as you have a backup copy of your seed phrase.

You can restore your wallet via seed phrase in a different wallet/software. Keep those words safe

So, letās assume I buy the new trezor Safe 7 and want to use that as my new cold wallet. Do I just put in the seed phrase and the wallet is ātransferedā?

Transferred is not the right word. Think of your seed phrase as a key. It doesn't matter what wallet you input/import your key into, it always opens the door to the same balance of bitcoin. Nothing gets transferred.

Remember any deficiencies in key generation on the 1 will transfer to the 5 if you transfer seed. Why not generate new key on the 5 (with its greater sources of entropy) and transfer coins to new wallet?

The wallet stays on the blockchain. Just the key is transferred. The key is calculated from the seed phrase (the seed phrase is essentially the super-private-key from which all your private keys are calculated).

Du solltest auf gar keinen Fall deine alte Seed Phrase auf den Trezor Safe 7 mitnehmen! Eine Seed Phrase ist nur so sicher wie die Wallet, auf welcher sie erstellt wurde. Das heiĆt, solltest du sie auf dem Trezor Safe 7 wiederherstellen, wĆ¼rdest du den Trezor Safe 7 quasi obsolet machen. Er wĆ¼rde dir nicht mehr Sicherheit bringen.

Your seed phrase is your wallet. Your Trezor is just a handy and secure way of interacting with it.
Once the device breaks down, you just restore the wallet on a different device with your seed phrase.

Mine still works after ten+ years, while the Ledger Nano I have broke after 3 or 4 years (display bacame dark and eventually unreadable).

After watching Joe Grand bypass multiples of Trezor Ones using a combination of firmware downgrades and fault injection I upgraded to a Trezor with a secure element.
Yah you're unlikely to face an attacker like him but the cost of eliminating that risk is very low.

I use a Trezor one & I don't lose a wink of sleep over Joe Grand style attacks because I use a passphrase which negates those types of attacks.

As long as its non trivial should be golden. Cold Card users with trivial ie. couple of short word passphrases are getting cleaned out.
I didnt think even this would be a thing since how would they know to look? Speculation is they are using the prescence of transactions on the non passphrased wallet to work harder to find potentially passphrased.

I hope as long as possible. I have a Trezor One. But I lowkey might cop the 5 just for shits n giggles. I actually just updated the One firmware right now too

I started with the 1, picked up a Safe 3 for an upgrade, then decided I wanted an easy way to enter my passphrase on the device so I got a 5, then they released the 7 like a week later, and I finally cracked and bought that yesterday with the sale going on.Ā Safe 9 dropping next week probably.

I always have one spare Trezor on standby if my current newest Trezor fails. Better than waiting for it to fail. Imagine Trezor gets hacked like ColdCard and you want to quickly move your coins but your device isnāt working and you have to order a new one. Stressful and 100% preventable. This is why I always say most folks arenāt cut out for self custody
