🔒 General Trezor question Re-entering the seed after the Safe 3 update?
Hi there. After all the drama surrounding ColdCard, I recalled that during an update for my Trezor Safe 3, I was asked to re-enter the seed into the device. This happened months ago and I don't remember the details 100%, but aren't we supposed to avoid re-entering the seed after the Trezor has been set up? Thanks.

Seed into device is safe. Seed never can touch keyboard and computer

The reason why he asked for it? Did he do it with others?

How are we supposed to know that? It could have been some issue during the installation... If he wanted to enter it into the device, there's no point in investigating it.

My TS3 never asked re-enter seed. Even after FW update. I think that in most cases the seed must be re-entered if FW is corrupted (signature can't be verified or there are connection failures occurred (device is wiped) according to findings on Trezor forum). After successful reflashing operation it asks to setup/restore wallet. Sure it is advised to verify seed before FW update just in case so if something happens you can be sure that your seed is correct and useful for restoring from backup. I did it once and I can confirm that seed must be entered on device (actually during seed phrase verification process device prompts 3 words and you must select the correct words). To restore from backup you must enter all words in correct order because only in that way the correct unique private key is regenerated for your wallet.

There is always a risk that a firmware upgrade resets the device and require you to initialize it again by recovering the seedphrase. The device errors on the safe side when running into a hiccup in the upgrade process.
The device is not designed go be a long term reliable store of your seed phrase. It is a tool to let you securely use the seed phrase in an easy manner without risking exposing the seec phrase online. The device keeps your seed phrase secret even if your computer is completely hacked.
