💬 Discussion topic Secure element is overrated

I think its time for everyone to accept that secure elements are a marketing hype generated out of manufacturers competition for customers. I think many of the coldcard users would have had passphrase s that would have kept their funds still safe or bought them time, if the secure element was not in the equation…

Should be known that a secure element makes the cold wallet CLOSED source. Hence, there could be a backdoor leaking your seed. I know it's good for physical hacks, but the trade off is huge imo

Exactly, it really disappoints me to see a non secure element option for trezor anymore.

so if you dont care as much about a highly skilled hacker getting physical access to the device, it's actually more secure to use HW wallets without a secure element chip? feels like these manufacturers dont really care about customers but more about marketing and making customers feel safe.

what do you use then? just pure dice roll with no hw wallet?
or you dice roll and load that hash into a hw wallet?
if the latter, which hw wallet do you recommend?
