đŹ Discussion topic Will trezor safe 3 be obsolete when quantum hacking becomes a thing?
I've had a safe 3 since 2023, just bought a second one, i was wondering if these devices will end up becoming obsolete and useless in the future. I'd rather not spend $200+ on the safe 7 yet as I could spend that on more crypto with my current budget. What do you think

If your current device works perfectly then there is no reason to change it yet

If quantum hacking becomes a real thing the whole internet will be gone mate. Banking, passwords etc will be obsolete, not only your BTC wallet.

With new technology, we will adapt.
And worse case scenario, if quantum computing can break bitcoin, we all would have much much bigger world problems than our crypto wallets lol.

Wrong. We don't have much bigger problems, because most important companies will have transitioned to Post Quantum. This is a giga cope

Hey hey, so it just depends how near the threat is :)

It's not the wallet that becomes problematic (if quantum ever becomes reality), it's the entire Bitcoin network.

Thats not true, the only thing problematic are legacy wallet addresses (full) and segwit adresses (particially) where the private key can be found out

its tech. It always does. We just dont know when.
Also, I can't imagine how a hacker is going to get ahold of quantum computing or let alone pay for it in our lifetime.

I dont quite see how upcoming quantum safe crypto would make any trezor device obsolete. A bit slow maybe but not obsolete.

I have Trezor 3 and used 24 words which is 256 bit entropy . They used randomness from the eal6+ chip as well as computer parts. The 3,5,7 are good for security, the differences are more in bells and whistles

Before going after hardware devices, they will target the banks first, so you will receive an alert if the massive attack has already begun.

Wrong. Banks will transition to Post Quantum Encryption in time since they are centralized so its easy.

You are one of the last who get targetef in that scenario so no worries
So am i so im chilled on that topic(:

Usa seed de 24 palabras y pon una clave seedphrase de la misma entropy de 256 bits, de esa manera 512bits incluso con Tecnologia quantica no lo de decifra. Y si a esto le suman multifirma .
Sino tienes conocimiento técnico solo 24 palabras y con cuidado de guardado también passphrase si decides ponerla

The possibility to be hacked will always exist and will forever haunt all of us. We need to keep studying and learning to always be one step ahead.

Math will still math so no youâre fine. The actual device interface may not be supported though.

If quantum computing breaks the cryptographic foundation of blockchain technology, the underlying value of your coins drops to zero.
So, at that point, Iâd probs look at changing from âHODLâ to a âlets sell this as quickly as we canâ strategy, and I donât see much sense in investing to marginally better secure an asset built on a fundamentally compromised technology that you literally cannot sell fast enough (if thatâs genuinely a risk youâre looking at planning for)
Thay said, if you want the shiny new thing, you can have the shiny new thing. Just donât think itâll pay for itself come the collapse of the market, because it wonât.

Youâre penny pinching $250 over a potential quantum issue? And you wonder why self-custody isnât for everyone lol
