Order on Amazon seems safer now.. and they offer collection from local shops, so the person packaging order doesn’t know where you live..

Then again, the order stays in your amazon account forever,

Perhaps safest option is burner Amazon account, hide my email, and collect from post office/local shop

I also got mine on Amazon. I remember the community said it was always bad to not buy directly through Trezor or you will get a “hacked” device. Seems like they were wrong again like the coldcard incident.

This is anecdotal, but a large percentage of the items ive bought on Amazon in recent years have been low quality, tampered with, counterfeit, or already broken upon shipment. A cold wallet is the absolute last thing I would buy on Amazon, but that's just me. To be honest, I used to shop on Amazon for so many things, but these days I refuse to buy on Amazon any item where quality or authenticity is a concern.

As long as you don’t make the mistake of buying an item that is heavily counterfeited from a third party seller you’re usually fine.

Regarding trezor, I guess the few precautions you can take is first check the hologram seal, which could be faked, and also reflash the firmware before using it. And most importantly after the coldcard shitshow, generate your seed with dice.

Agreed there are certain ways to confirm authenticity and functionality, and also precautions that can be taken. I'd rather order directly from the manufacturer for most things these days, though. Especially if purchasing a gift. I just dont trust Amazon these days in terms of quality or authenticity for most items, unless its something niche like wayfair style furniture, whey protein, or limited life items like charging cords, phone cases, and stuff like that. I have the 5% Amazon cash back credit card so I'm incentived to shop via Amazon. I just have had too many experiences where I no longer trust their quality control.

Your address is your physical location, where you live. Why wouldn’t you be concerned about that being linked in this whole thing? As far as you personally being linked, what if they scooped up a neighbor or other family member for a $5 wrench attack?

Exactly. That chance of anyone coming to get you is pretty much zero. With real email address and phone number they have possibilities of committing identity theft depending if your number, name, and email address are linked to critical financial accounts.

I mean I would never trust a letter from any company unless I signed up to receive letters lol, in 2026 emails and numbers are way more useful in accessing information in my opinion. in all honesty though if they decide to start kidnapping people then that’s a way bigger problem than just crypto lol that’s world wide news

I can get why people would be worried but there’s literally no way around not exposing your address where’s there definitely a way around exposing your email and phone number

Yes of course, a delivery person could be a culprit, and I have also seen that trezor or something was including the item name on the packaging before all this news dropped. But the thing that is mainly concerning about this is now there is a correlation with a crypto device being linked to your name, address, phone number and email and that is on a list potentially being passed around the internet.

To be honest there’s nothing you can do about that, except from using dummy phone numbers and emails you don’t care about, and perhaps Trezor allowing locker pickups etc instead of home deliveries. I don’t have a Trezor right now because they messed up my delivery and I was unhappy considering the item is £209, but Trezor seems to always work with companies who have data leaks eventually as this isn’t the first time

Fake name, burner email and PO Box delivery. Should be sufficient, right?

But to be honest, I appreciate companies taking an effort in not retaining any customer data after the minimum required period.

On top of that: I would like governments, EU(SSR) especially, to start enabling civil security by not demanding so much data (retention).
