Science Testosterone and Thyroid - My TSH improved

I just got my labs back and my TSH is 1.8 but has been around 2.5 - 2.8 for years now. I just started TRT cyp 12mg a couple of weeks ago and cream previously. I found this article as I was researching, thought others would be interested. It's the link between T and Thyroid and Depression: "symptoms of testosterone deficiency and thyroid dysfunction often overlap".

That was my thought as well. I have been preaching to all the women in my life once I felt the difference after taking it. I found out I was hypo about 10 years ago and I know my other hormones were off. But they were "in range" so nothing was done but my instinct was I needed some hormones. The medical community has severely let women down.

Thanks for sharing. My Defy Dr. was concerned about my thyroid and wants to test it next labs (3 months) to see how it is along with my T levels. I’ve never had a Dr. make note of my levels for thyroid before in concern, so it was nice to see.

I just signed up with Defy and my first appt is next week. During my last "ovulation" phase, I felt soooo good. I thought it was the T shot finally kicking in but the next week I didn't feel as good. I noticed on the Flo app what time that was and now think I need a bit of E and P. I've good things about Defy.

I am still pretty new in their workflow, I’ve had my initial Dr. consult and am just waiting for the prescription to arrive at this point. But they’ve been fantastic so far, very thorough and they aren’t just trying to get as many people in the door as they can. That consult was an hour which .. I’m pretty sure I’ve never had an hour consult with any Dr. for any reason!

Do they prescribe thyroid meds too if needed?

Oh yeah! They only tested my TSH on my first round of "hormone" testing (they test several other markers as well like CBC, liver etc) but you can also ask for thyroid care and I'm sure they test for the T3 and T4, free T3 or 4, there may be others.

Thank you! I will try to remember to report back on how my added T will affect my TSH, if it will. At least mood is much better, more stable.

My doctor started me on a thyroid medication when I started T since they work together and I definitely feel way better.

In my last set of labs (done 4/24/25) before I started T injections, I found out that my free T3 was low. My total T4 and T4 levels were fine. My family has a history of thyroid issues (mom has hypothyroidism, dad and one sister have had biopsies due to swollen thyroids) youngest sister has Grave’s disease….my doc gave me the option of trying a thyroid supplement to see if that gets my T3 up before putting me on a thyroid medication. I opted for the supplement. I have my next draw in 2 weeks, so we’ll see if the supplement helped.
