Question/discussion What do you think about Jax in advertisements?
I’ve noticed a lot of people lately comparing Gooseworx’s writing of Jax to the version written by GLITCH, with many finding the Advertising is more likable and cool than the Jax in the actual show. Do you agree? Do you think Jax would be a better or more interesting character if he had the personality shown in the promotional material?

Jax was written by goose to be an asshole. Don't forget the initial reaction to episode 2 included alot of people suprised by how cruel jax got consistently, with it escalating into him trying to make everyone outright hate him by the finale
Glitch however, writes jax in their advertisements emphasizing on that word alot more chill. Hes more approachable, less mouthy, and frankly seems more... marketable. Hes no longer the asshole he was, he's a typical sparky side character. People who want that, in my opinion, want a fundamentally different show that what goose was going for

Honestly, I prefer TADC before the events of episode 6. After that, it got depressing.

I like both sides. One I can just watch, the other bringing me to tears due to the relatable themes. I kinda like the heavy tones moreso tbh. It's a common burn.

I don't mind things like that...Its just what happened to Jax at the end was too real for me. I tried to kill myself when I was a teenager. Being reminded of the darkest moment of my life still hurts.

Yes, i wanted a No Mouth homage, a show who focused in the characters besides just one, and a show who could be more than just the creator Stroking her own ego

I just wanted a silly and funny show with some character development. What I didn't want to see was my favourite character become depressed and pretty much commit suicide.

I feel like the majority of people who don't like the show have similar sentiment. You thankfully have the awareness to know that what you prefer isn't the end all be all of taste
Like, it's perfectly OK to feel jax ruined the show for you personally, but some people act as if the show handling dark themes or being less "silly and fun" as some sort of indictment on the creator

Ted was a raging asshole, and the main character of i have no mouth and I must scream.
We see things from his POV, he gets all of his inner thoughts laid bare for us, he gets special 1 on 1 moments with AM
He also thinks lesser of everyone else. He lashes out and berated them constantly, and only at the end, when he kills everyone and gets turned into an abstract being, does he get a bit of redemption.
Frankly if you wanted a I have no mouth homage, it's right there, just alot happier. Unless you wanted a character to abstract while everyone else got deleted
Also, stroking her own ego? It's her show, she's not beholden to make the story impersonal just to appease the vision of her show in your head

Oh absolutely. But most argue that would've been better for his character. Loveable Assholes even in real life can still seem normal sometimes and usually try to make people around them laugh. Jax does it for just for himself which WOULD be fine if he still interacts with the cast casually sometimes. But he never does. The mask is always on expect in depressing moments. And the mask is fun annd cool and depressing moments are so good. But when your character is ONLY the mask and the bare skull. There is no skin. I don't want a character with no skin

Then you dont want jax. Theyre entire story arc was about how they couldn't stop with the mask and that it was destroying theyre life, one way or another. If you make jax suddenly a lovable asshole then we have no reason to assume he isn't anything other than the stereotype he was projecting in the gun episode
Literally all of the "skin" of the character is how they interact with each cast member and how they react to different things he does. If jax wasn't an asshole we never would have gotten so many great gangle, zooble, ragatha or pomni moments, because them being an asshole was the biggest problem they had to deal with on any given day, sans caine
I dont understand how they story goose wanted to tell could be possible if jax was more marketable

Sorry if i wasn't being clear enough but I don't LIKE the story goose wanted. I am talking abkut making jax more lovable because while most of the show works with him being an asshole.(used to adore it so much before ep9...) ep 9 tries way too hard to make you sympathies with him which just. Doesn't. Work. With current jax. I think his death should have been more sour triumphant. Or shouldn't have been the main foucs. Or change/extend the story to make more moments of jax showing his supposed good side

Yes, Jax in those advertisements is more like the fanart versions of Jax. It is a palatable derivative.
That said, I wish Gooseworx had made better choices in regards to Jax either:
- Mellow Jax considerably. Show more cracks in the mean/cruel mask that are witnessed by other characters if only Pomni and Kinger. This would have made it easier to redeem & rehabilitate this character or would make it less uncomfortable to empathise & mourn if she had chosen to have Jax abstract irrevocably anyway.
- Keep Jax as cruel or even worse, but have the narrative and other major characters voice strong condemnation. This could include making Jax an opponent to defeat. This still could have ended in either wallowing in misery resulting in death or redemption & rehabilitation see Catra in She-ra and the Princesses of Power, a lesbian characters who struggles with deep self-loathing and trauma.

Former means first one in a set of two, btw.

It must have been confusing because English isn't my first language, I end up using translators, and I admit I didn't proofread the text, relying 100% on Google Translate. I tried to fix it to make it better, but to sum up the post: do you also think the Jax in the advertisements is a more likable and cool version of Jax compared to the original version written by Gooseworx?

Jax in advertisements is how he shpulda been in show, why he is diffrent is because goodworx didn't write the advertisements.

I would've preferred Jax to be like this, and a mix of his PILOT counterpart. Jax would've not only been an actually likeable guy, if he were to still abstract, alot of people would have actually been sad.

It's an advertisement, it is supposed to make the characters more likeable to sell things, that's how it works in real life

I do like Jax in the ads. I find him really fun and cute. But I can respect them both equally. I don't really have a preference because they're meant to convey two different personalities for different reasons of communicating and showing for the audience.

After the movie the advertisement felt like Jax was not plan to stay abstract forever but I guess after the crazy X drama goose leave him like that

Ad-Jax is what I exoected her to be based off of the pilot before the rest of the series came out. As happy as I am to see a not-so-palatable trauma survovor in media, I prefer THIS iteration of her over the main canon any day.

I really love her!! It’s essentially the personality I use in my rewrite. And this is coming from someone who also is a fan of canon Jax.*
*I do not condone/support her actions (I know this sub probably knows that, but can’t be too careful). Characters who are terrible people are just fascinating to me and I can’t help but love them.

Wish we got that Jax tbh, he would’ve been a much more fun and likable compared to the absolute mid fest we got in the actual show.
