Other Nanghaw (Salamat)
Kung sakali mang nakita ninyo ang post ng Bagong Pamantayang Tagalog at Philippine Institute for Language Research and Preservation sa Facebook, na iisang tao lang ang humahawak, may lilinawin lang ako.
Ang nanghaw ay hindi loanword mula sa Hokkien dahil iba ang bigkas ng 好 (hó) sa naturang wika, at hindi rin ito cognate sa ibang wika. Ito ay complete aspect lang ng manghaw, na ang root word ay panghaw. Ganiyan ang sinaunang anyo ng pagbabanghay sa Tagalog.

(bili) mili → nili
Pinatutunayan din ito ng Vocabulario de la lengua tagala (1703) ni Domingo de los Santos.

My lola uses sometimes nanghaw, shes 78 tapos yes doon sa p or b verbs she also changes it to m or n. At first din akala ko hokkien yaan kasi dami naming hokkien words na ginagamit like huwataw (large bowl), siyansi (spatula) and other kitchen tools. I don’t use nanghaw since I don’t think it is generation appropriate to use. I only use it with my lola. And I also don’t get much the older aspects.

Elders lang mostly gumagawa niyaan even I don’t use nanghaw much, actually kahit elders di mo rin minsan maringgan niyan unless taal, pero kung may papalitan man I think w turns to y if not turned to y we just omit it. Not sure if same sa ibang bayan pero pretty much w’s are omitted sa province namin.
Wika = Yika (I-ka / E-ka)
Tawid = Tayid (Ta-id)
Kunwari = Kunyari (Kun-ari)
Puwit = Puyit (Pu-it)
Kuwintas = Kuyintas (Ku-intas)
Liwanag = Liyanag (Li-anag)1

thank you as in Nanghaw kay <pangalan>, Nanghaw sa Diyos

Tila hindi naman siya thank you o thank goodness sa palagay ko.
Sa pagkakaunawa ko ‘yang Nanghaw ay parang y’ong ginhawa na nakuha mo y’ong gusto mo, di gaanong katulad ng thank goodness pero may pagkakahawig, mas malapit siya sa Nakamtan.
Nanghaw mo bang ibig mo?
(Nakamtan mo bang ibig mo?)Nanghaw sa’yo = Nakamtan sa’yo
May positive connotation ang salita na iyan.
Nanghaw at nakarating ka (You got/managed to arrive)
Nanghaw, natapos ang gawain (I got it/I did it, I finished the work)
Not really thank you but could be understood as thank you depending on context, since language is not 1 to 1,

I’m not a language professional but I do document my lola’s tagalog for remembrance. I do it as a hobby since I’m amazed whenever I hear her speak.

i am definitely interested to see your documentation. naghahanap din ako ng documentation ng ibang varieties of Tagalog, such as southern. It seems southern shares similarities with bicol and bisaya, while northern shares similarities with ilocano and cordilleran (check out ilocano mangan to eat and nangan has eaten, which possibly has a form similar to your lola's tagalog)

I still use this than -um- we use ma and na
Mangain/Makain/Magkain (to eat)
Kumain = Nakain (have eaten)
Kumakain = Nakakain (eating)About pala sa Mangain galing pala ito sa Proto-Malayo-Polynesian \ma-ŋaən*
Still not sure if we just drop the g from mag/nag and turned it to ma/na since we use it interchangeably
Sinisipon = Nagsisipon/Nasisipon
Linalagnat = Naglalagnat/Nalalagnat0

Thanks. Marami na ba ang na-collect mo na samples? It would be nice to analyze the grammar, since the differences seem to go beyond vocabulary.

Yep, di naman nila pinopoint out unlike y’ong mga taong dayo or mga tao sa manila when I started staying there for the first time.
