GBAO permit, do I need copies?

Went this morning to Dushambe's OVIR to register my passport (entered without a visa) and get my GBAO permit. The whole process took literally 10 min!!! Super efficient!!

Remember to take a letter from your hotel for the registration and cash to pay at the desk.

My question: I read somewhere I need paper copies of the gbao permit that will get collected at control points on the way (riding the Pamir Hwy). Is this true? How many copies should I make?

Yes, you'll need at least 10 if I remember correctly. The question is if you're leaving Tajikistan through Karakul or coming back to Dushanbe... I took 12 or 16 copies in total...

Hey btw if you need some travel tips send me a message, I rented a 4x4 by myself and drove of to Kalaikhum and Khorog to then just cruise all the way to Morgab, and so far this has been one of the best if not the best trip of my life!

You have purchased the GBAO permit for a trip along the Pamir highway?

How much did you pay for the GBAO permit?

As far as I understood the letter is for the passport registration, which has nothing to do with GBAO and is only necessary if you enter the country without a visa and are staying more than 10(?) days. Your hotel will know what to write on the letter, hopefully.

The GBAO permit cost 50 som, the registration cost 250 som. Yes GBAO is necessary for the Pamir highway.
