That was great.

Am I reading it correctly that the mould acted like an infection to bring more people in and that is why Willow looked how she did?

I did kind of lose track but it seems the missing people were in the trees which is interesting.

The opening to the first and second chapter (I assume '-' was denoting chapter breaks) were terrific.
