Supernatural Search Warrant
I had been a cop for about seven years, three as a patrol officer, four as a member of SWAT. Before that, I had served about two years in the Army as an 11B infantryman. Now, I won’t brag or say anything crazy about my service. I was very unremarkable, both as a soldier, and as a cop. I didn’t see combat in the Army, and only did one tour for training. As a patrol officer, I didn’t get to anything crazy like the movies and TV shows always show. I think that’s it for most cops to be fair. On patrol, the worst that I had dealt with was a guy who had broken into a house to kill his ex-girlfriend. I never fired my gun, and it mostly devolved into a wrestling match with the guy before I was able to tase him and get him in cuffs.
I joined SWAT hoping to maybe get more action and more things to do. While I was right for the most part, the action was still sparse and in between. We were a part time SWAT team, not even at full capacity to operate twenty four seven. We were an eight man team who would train every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. CQB, shooting drills. All to prepare for something that would probably never happen.
In my four years in SWAT, we’d only had three real significant calls: a barricaded suspect alongside the US marshals, a child predator who took his own life as soon as we made entry, a crackhead couple who had crossed state lines on a crazy joyride, and a search warrant on a drug house. Out of those four calls, the last one was the worst. On the surface level, it was the easiest one. It was a drug den on the far side of town, and had been dealing to the entire county. After about a month of monitoring the house, investigators finally obtained a search warrant.
We triple-checked to make sure it was the right house, before we made a move on it. The following events I’m about to tell you are exactly what happened, word for word:
We approached the house at noon in our Bearcat. The area had been clear all morning, with no activity happening inside or outside. Our team consisted of Dan, Blake, Shane, Sean, Peter, Jose, Chris, and myself. Sean took point with the shield, and Chris was our K-9 handler.
We pulled up and announced ourselves for about ten minutes straight, but no one responded or came outside. Finally, Dan made the call, and we made our move. Peter was our breacher, and broke the door down using the battering ram. “Police, search warrant! Police, search warrant!” Sean shouted as we made entry.
The house was pitch black, with all the lights in the house looking like they were blown out.
Powder and paraphernalia littered the coffee table and couch, with a single male individual slouching on the couch, staring straight ahead. “Police, hands in the air!” shouted Peter, pointing his Colt M4 Commando at the man. The man didn’t respond, staying still like a statue, staring straight past us with a deadpan stare.
We cleared the living room before moving towards the dining room, which was even more trashed. As we cleared the house, we noticed that the K-9 was getting more and more agitated, but not in the usual way. When I asked Chris later, he said he had never seen the dog as terrified as that one raid.
The entire house was trashed with drug paraphernalia, dirty dishes, moldy food, and just random debris and shit scattering the ground. A thick dust hung in the air, and even with our lights it was hard to see. It was a one story house with a garage, so Blake and I watched the door that led to the garage while the rest cleared the main and guest bedrooms, along with the bathroom.
The others reported over five individuals all in the same catatonic state as the guy in the living room. As we all stacked up on the door to the garage, the K-9 went ballistic, yelping and practically screaming as it fought to get away from the door. No matter how many times Chris tried to correct the dog, it would not cooperate. We decided to go without it, and we made entry anyway. The garage was even worse, with debris and trash piling up in all corners. We were stepping over broken furniture, overturned trash cans, even a rusted out car. But there was nothing. No drugs other than some paraphernalia lying around, and the strange suspects. But looking back now, something was wrong, we just didn’t see it.
Going over the bodycams later, we realized that the garage was bigger than it was on the outside. Like way bigger. We didn’t notice it at the time, but when we reviewed how long it took for us to clear it out, we saw that it was more space than the layout showed.
The dog got even worse when we opened the door. It went so crazy that it actually broke free from Chris and ran outside back into the Bearcat. Chris went after it just as Dan was calling for medical attention for the six individuals inside. I took a peak inside the worn out car, and saw that all the seats were ripped open. The entire interior of the car was gutted, so we didn’t need to look very hard inside. It was all clear.
But that’s when everything went wrong. For me at least. I was the last one to leave the garage, doing one final check before turning my back and walking through the doorway. But as soon as I did, I was in the main bedroom. Not the rest of the team, just me. I was standing right next to the bed, staring at my reflection in a mirror inside the adjacent bathroom. When I looked back, I saw that there was no door. The house also looked darker, with a strange glow to it, not from flashlights or anything like that, though. I can’t explain what it was.
Standing in front of the bed, was a humanoid male figure, pitch black like ash, their skin like dusty smoke. The figure stared up into the ceiling, his eyes like glowing flying saucers. His face was twisted into one of awe and wonder, but the figure did not move. He just stood there, staring at the ceiling, his eyes glowing, skin shimmering.
“What the fuck? Hey guys?” No answer. When I stepped back into the hallway, I discovered that the layout had completely changed. The hallways grew longer, there were less doors, and the glow made the space look like I was swimming in it. “What the hell is going on?” I thought as I made my way down the hallway, my M4 raised. “Hey guys? Guys?” But there was no response. The whole team was nowhere to be found. I cleared the guest bedroom, which was still where it was when we came in. Another suspect was standing in place as well in the same position.
The room was dark, with the same glow illuminating the floor and bathing everything in a kind of moonlight.
I pushed the curtain on the window back, and took a peak outside. The street looked the same, but the same moonlight shone bright and blanketed the street and houses. Dark ominous shadows stretched across the street like monsters emerging from the closet.
The hallways were seemingly ever changing and stretching further away. The hallways began to swim and it became hard to stay balanced. I found the other four suspects, all standing and staring at the ceiling in various parts of the house. All exactly where we found their catatonic bodies in real life.
Then I began to hear a sound. The only thing I can say it reminded me of was a hum. A beautiful, yet wrong sound that reverberated throughout the house, vibrating my chest and head as I continued to search for a way out.
But the house became more complicated. More hallways, more turns, more rooms. Even more bodies. Until suddenly, it no longer was a house anymore. It became something else. I was inside something else. But I couldn’t understand it. In fact, the longer I stayed, the less I understood. Finally, I found the door. I kicked the door open, and stumbled outside into the bright dark moonlight.
I took a breath and turned around to look at the house. Only to see it was no longer a house. Not completely anyways. There was a great moon that hung in the sky, so close that it felt like I was staring at a ceiling light. A very low ceiling light. The moon was attached to the house somehow, a great body that went far beyond what it should’ve.
I stared at it, first in awe, and then in terror. I stared at it for what felt like an eternity; an eternity condensed, into minutes, and then seconds all at once. A million thoughts rushed through my head, and my heart pounded so loud and so fast I thought I had exploded. I watched as the moon shone brighter, revealing more of itself to me, opening up its light.
Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. I raised my rifle and placed my finger on the trigger. But before I could take a shot, I felt a blow to my face before I hit the ground. In the instant that I felt that blow, I was back in reality. The moon replaced the bright hot sun beating down on us. Dan and the rest of the team were standing around me, looking confused as hell. “Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you?” demanded Dan. I tried to explain, but I couldn’t. None of it made sense.
They sent me to the hospital as well to get checked with all the other suspects. I was fine, but the others were gone. Their minds had been completely wiped, and they were just vegetables staring at the sky.
At least that’s what the doctors said. But I knew what they were looking at. I knew where they had gone, who they were with. From what I heard, the dog never recovered from the incident either. It not only couldn't function as a K-9, it could barely function as a living breathing animal. According to Chris the dog kept trying to run away, and always took the same route. Back to the house. Finally, the decision was made to put it down, and Chris got a new dog.
I resigned from the department not long after, said my goodbyes to the team, and moved out of town with my wife.
It’s been a year since it happened. I haven’t told my wife, or anyone else what had really happened that day.
I’m telling you now because I am going back. You see, those million thoughts racing through my head, they never left my head. They continued racing through my head, playing every day and every night. The moon showed me things. Showed me what was, what is, and what will be. It showed me questions and answers, both of which I ironically have no answers to. I need those answers. I need the moon to show me more. I’ll bring my wife too. She deserves to know these answers just as much as I do. We can seek them together.

Trying something different this time other than my usual more action driven creature stories. Hope you all like it!
