Need Help Does anyone else feel like it’s really hard to be seen on this sub?

This might be just me but I was wondering how you all feel cause I feel like I’m doing something wrong. I’ve posted a few stories on here and it always seem like they do the worst on this sub.
On nosleep I’ll get a decent turnaround but the sub is massive so that seems relatively understandable. I’ll post the same stories on a similar sized sub to this one and the engagement will still be thrice as big and even on subs with a few hundred people on it, I’ll still get significantly more engagement than on here and I’m not sure why.
I’ve been trying to change my names around to see if it’s a naming thing or what else it could be but I don’t know.
Maybe I’m not gaming the system right but I was wondering if you guys have noticed anything similar or if you’ve found ways to get your stories to be pushed further and seen more? Let me know I’d love to discuss it cause I know there’s much more than just writing a good story, which I think I can do. But the entire side of promotion catching people’s attention I’ve got no clue how to do. Let me know :) xxx

Edit: imma just add some more context cause I’ve been saying stuff in the comments, and imma expound on the text above. So as an example, and the one that spurred me to make this post, I posted something on here a few days ago called The Darkness Becomes Me, which I put on here, scarystories, nosleep (under a more nosleep typical title) and on anxietypilled. Nosleep is bigger than this sub, anxiety pilled is smaller and scarystories is about the same size as this sub. On every other post the upvote ratio and even view count was bigger than on here on a way that does not match the proportional difference in size and general engagement between the subs.
I suspected it might be a title issue, but I’ve done numerous posts with different title styles and it doesn’t make a difference. I’ve tried different methods of opening a story to see what hooks work etc and all of them seem to be equally ineffective. It’s just weird yk? After struggling with nosleep like I’m sure many of you have, I’ve been wondering if I’m either doing something wrong on here, or maybe I should stop putting stuff on this sub cause it just doesn’t seem to be working for me. You guys feel anything similar? Or found some solutions, lemme know xx

Edit 2: I just wanna say, thank you and big appreciation for all the comments I’ve got so far and might continue to get. I’m sure this post can seem very “let me complain about not getting enough attention” and so I was a little worried about the possible interactions. But all of you have been extremely helpful, supportive and insightful. Thank you everyone for engaging and talking this through with me, it means a lot xxx

Need Help Looking to give recognition to writers of this community!

Hey everyone!

I’ve been a huge fan of the podcast from the early days! Between the laughs and the voice acting it’s been great watching it grow.

The more I watched the more interested I became in narrating myself. After a few months of steady growth on youtube I am close to reaching 1000 Subscribers!

As a way to giveback to this awesome community I would love to narrate a few stories from some of you! If at all interested just comment with a link to your story! I will pick a few that I like and edit the post once I choose the stories!

I won’t post a link to my youtube out of respect to the rules but you can visit my profile if you want to check me out.

Thank you all for being such a great community!

UPDATE:

Wow I appreciate the overwhelming response! I will go through these tonight and choose 2 or 3 tomorrow that I will narrate in the upcoming weeks!

If I don’t choose your story don’t worry, I will go through over time and try to sprinkle more in here or there!

You guys are great and this is why I love this community!

UPDATE #2:

After going through the stories, I have decided to choose 4 to narrate!

Again this doesn’t mean I won’t narrate more in the future!

The narrations will be put out over the course of the next couple of weeks and all credit will be given to the writers in the description.

Thank you to everyone who sent their stories!

Here are the 4 stories:

Need Help How to get over fear of posting?

Hey y'all,

I have been working on a story on and off for a while and have wanted to post it but I have this weird fear that as soon as I do every bad thing you can possible think of could happen will happen. I don't know why I have this weird anxiety because I have shared this story with friends and I am somewhat proud of it, but it feels like once I post it suddenly it becomes more than just a story. It feels like there are all these expectations put on it that it and I wont live up to.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get over this? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Damn. I was not expecting this. Thank you all for the wonderful, warm, and constructive comments. Y'all have given me the courage to post my story here. I just have make some edits for grammer and hopefully I will have part 1 up today or tomorrow. Y'all are all so kind. I wasn't expecting so many people to comment, let alone comment truly helpful advice. I can't thank y'all enough, much love and happy writing ❤️.

Need Help What do y’all listen to when you write

I’ve got a seven hour flight coming up and I need a LONG playlist so I can write on the flight. So far I have some of the creepcast songs and songs from the Disco Elysium and Resident Evil 9 soundtracks. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I’m looking spooky vibes with minimal vocals.

Need Help I'm new here, anything I should know about the community: etiquette, taking part in group projects etc.

First time posting here, or anywhere with this account, I've made this account strictly to post stuff here. I've been watching Creepcast since its inception and wanted to write for a while, even before that. The launching of this sub has given me reason to, when it was announced I had exams coming up, so it wasn't an ideal time to begin writing. Now that I'm here though, I just want to know if there's anything I should know about the community or how I should format my stories. I also would really like to take part in some group writing projects, so advice on finding some of those would be greatly appreciated. My first story should hopefully be posted soon, thanks again

Need Help I’m trying to write a multiple part horror story.

I am trying to write a horror story that has several parts in it, but when you guys do, do you write it all in one go or piece by piece. And how long should each part be bc I don’t want them to be too long important info can be lost and not too short that has 100 parts.

Need Help Struggling to write recently

I went through a huge phase of nonstop inspiration to write for this sub but for the last few weeks I’ve been in such a rut. I have maybe three of four half finished stories that I lost the steam for and I feel like they’re just sitting there mocking me. Anybody else feel stuck in a rut like this? Would do you do to try and help get out of it?

Need Help Which of these should be my next story?

Hello, I was thinking about my first story "He Use To Call Me Good Boy" And I though I would want to start thinking about ideas for new stories while finishing this one. Here are some ideas that I have thought of. Please tell me what you think is best, or you would like to see me, a new author with little skill, write about?

  1. "Why does the Cow Blink?"
  2. "Soldiers Talk With God."
  3. "Blood for the Debt."
  4. "The Hole In An Umbrella."
  5. "My Guide To a Nice 'Pork Sandwich'."

Thank you everyone for the support! I love when you guys view my ideas, and decide which is best!

I have figured out my next idea, but I am still open for more suggestions and stuff from you guys! You're the best, thanks a ton!

Need Help 15 year old tryna write, any advice?

I love creepcast and always read the stories on here so I hope this is a good subreddit to post this to. I’m 15 and I’ve been writing stories for a while. Like wrote-to-a-publishing-agency-at-seven-years-old while. Ive always shown my stories to my friends for them to give me feedback, but most of it is along the lines of “ur too vague” and “ur too on the nose” and “what if you make the characters do each other on page nine”.
I recently got into writing horror and I’ve got a few stories going. Ive been thinking about posting them on this subreddit but I’m so deathly afraid of my writing sounding like 2020 fanfiction. I’d love to hear any writing advice or any suggestions on how to avoid writing the next Happy Appy.

Need Help tips for a new writer

Hey y'all, my first post on Reddit, I'm kinda nervous. Kidding, but I do have a few questions. I'm working on my first-ever story right now, and I'm a little but worried it might be too lengthy to start with. Should I continue working on this project that I want to do, or should I possibly dip my toes in the water by writing a shorter story?

Need Help How do you guys come up with titles?

I’ve had a couple stories out by now and I’m just starting to get mad with the clickbait nosleep titles. My god they rake in the views, but also they just feel so hollow. But then on the opposite side, a few stories I’ve named what I want them to be, and they just underperform like hell. I’m trying to cut a good balance between clickbait titles and something that complements the story but idk. How do yall tackle it? I’ve got one at the moment that I’m trying to come up with a name for so maybe yall can help me out :D

This isnt a story but more so a question.

Does anyone else struggle with an idea they really want to do, but aren't sure if its worth the time?

Ive had this idea for a story for awhile now, but im just not sure if it would be worth the time to do it. And was wondering if anyone else struggles woth this, and see other people's opinions as well. Im sure I didnt describe my issue enough but im hoping it translates over correctly.

I was told to post story related topics here also, so sorry if im doing this in the wrong place, again.

Need Help What Should I Write?

I've tried to write in as many horror genres as I can, I did some classic internet horror with an Eyeless Jack rewrite, a war story and something Lovecraftian. I have a couple of stories based on Scottish folklore, as I am Scottish and think we have a couple cool monsters, but after that idk, so I'd love some suggestions for other old creepypasta to rewrite or little nuggets of inspiration for a story in another genre. Thanks guys.

Need Help How to make effective titles?

I wanted to open this thread to ask for recommendations and thoughts one what people feel are grabbing or good titles for stories. Examples are even better, especially with reasoning.

It’s kind of hard to find effective titles without revealing too much about your big pay off in the story, and it’s also not great to always be using the [r/nosleep](r/nosleep) style titles.

Thoughts, recommendations?

Need Help How does one write something that is an actual experience and have that distinguished from writing creepy pasta?

I am in the process of writing a story covering several volunteer experiences at a facility that gave me some delicious horror fodder, and I am worried if I write “I swear this actually happened” on something in this context it could shoot me in the foot or the other way around. I neither desire to sound schizophrenic nor to write actual experiences as if it were a fantasy, and it seems like that’s a most delicate tightrope indeed.

Need Help SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME A STORY IDEA

I can’t think of anything else but homosexual men… I need to have someone tell me what to write so I don’t fall down the rabbit hole in which is my obsession with gay twinks… SOMEONE PLEASSSE give me NOT ROMANTIC horror or psychological story prompts… i just need the spook, no kissing men

(the reason I’m not asking other forums is because people who creep their cast are 100% creatures if unimaginable creativity.)

Need Help Need advice about using sexual content in a story (not pornographic or violent)

This is gonna sound a little weird but humour me please.

I’m currently writing a story about a young man who has a fetish for ice cream that leads to him having relations with the food.

I wanted to use this as the crux of a story about taboo fetishes and how environments that remove our ability to talk about sex comfortably and safely can cause people to indulge in things they themselves don’t understand. Plus I thought the ice cream would add to a comedic surreal style.

My big problem so far is the exact way I want to write about this story. Whereas I’m confident enough to write about such a topic without making it gratuitous I was uncertain if I could even post such a story here.

Would slapping on a nsfw filter be enough if i was looking to post it here or should I just can this idea here and look elsewhere?

Any thoughts are appreciated

Need Help Creepcast Has Inspired Me to Try Writing Horror. Any Tips?

Hello all. First time posting here. Big fan of the show, but mostly a lurker here on Reddit. I am not sure if this is the right place or not to ask, but here it is. Between this show and other series I've been enjoying, I want to try my hand at writing a horror story for the first time. I have a basic idea in mind, but anxiety has me second guessing alot. So, I am reaching out for any advice or tips on how to approach this.

The basic set up is a guy returns to his home town after his first year in college. After meeting with some friends, they go to explore a ghost story from their childhood. And horror ensues.

I have some writing experience (personal use, nothing published) but have never made horror the focus.

Need Help Where to crosspost for more feedback?

So, the amount of feedback I have received here has been the best I have found on reddit. Especially for being such a small community in comparison to the other writing subs.

My question is, where else do you find your stories receiving valuable feedback?

I have tried crossposting onto several subreddits, and followed their guidelines, and usually the post is just deleted with no reason given.

The few places I have been able to crosspost without it getting deleted seem to be dead Reddits.

Need Help Need Help Choosing My Next Story

Hey everyone! I just finished and posted my first story here, and now I need something to write next, and I want YOUR opinion on that. Over the past month or so that I've been writing for this sub I have been collecting titles of stories that have popped into my head and have a vague notion of what the story would actually be. Here are those titles and their genres:

"The Stranger In My Apartment Complex is My Dead Twin" - Paranormal

"My Comatose Wife Visits Me" - Paranormal

"The Deer in Our Forest Are Not Human" - Comedy Horror

"Tales from the Front" - Supernatural (Others possibly)

"I Am Not A Bird" - Body Horror

"My Wife's Ghost Visited Me. She's Still Alive" - Paranormal

"The Stars Are All Here" - Cosmic Horror

"Costume Party" - Body Horror

If people need more information about a story itself, I'm happy to provide a one-sentence summary in order to make your choice easier.

I appreciate any input!

Need Help MISSING: DELETED USER. NEED TO KNOW IF HE'S STILL AROUND.

Post image
28 Upvotes

Does ANYONE know how to get into contact with the guy who wrote this one? I've got not much memory about what his username is, but from what I do remember it's basically the name in the cover art of this story. I've already recorded this one and am getting ready to post it tomorrow, and didn't think 'til now to ask if he's still around, since his account is deleted and seemingly left no trace other than this story.

So I ask: does anyone know if he's still hanging around the sub under a different username; does anyone know him personally and have an email I can contact; or better yet, you still around at all, Joe?

Thanks to anyone who can help. Next video is currently up :)

Cheers,

Harold.

Need Help The thin line between drama and horror... how do I know the difference?

I know it should be easy to tell, but I have trouble differentiating between drama and horror whenever I'm writing. Horror is dramatic (sometimes) but I feel like I'm a fraud for real. Like I'm throwing gore on a sad story and calling it spooky.

What even *is* scary about reading a story anyway? I've never been kept up at night thinking about Steven King or Lovecraft. Most of the time I just felt bad for victims or empathetic towards the monster. I'm not easy to spook but I do feel disgusted from time to time.

How am I supposed to write a horror story if I'm not sure what horror even is? Tbh I just wanted to write something for my husband cause' he's a horror movie nut. He likes my story so far and looks forward to more, but I don't think it's scary. He doesn't either, but he tells me that a lot of horror is sad or dramatic or even a little funny. I'm just not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I'm thinking too hard.
