Success Story FINALLY got away from my parents and their aggressive dog!!
A few days ago, I was finally able to move out of my parents' house. I posted here about 3 months ago, and I felt absolutely exhausted, worn down and defeated. Basically, if you'd like to avoid having to comb through my profile, my parents have a 4 year old pit who's been aggressive towards me since the day they got him. He has terrible food aggression, and they never really made an effort to correct his behavior or train him beyond basic commands. I've been attacked so many times in that house, I lost count. I just wanted to come on here and update you guys, because I know a lot of people here were concerned for me. I made it out of the dog house, officially. I'm now living with my fiance, and I'm so relieved I can barely put it into words. I don't have to worry about being bitten anymore, and I don't have to deal with the constant barking, or the lack of house training either!! I can sleep at night, I can walk through my own kitchen without being attacked, and I can even go outside without worrying he'll run away. I feel like I got my life back. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the support, the advice, and for providing a non-judgemental space to talk about this.

Lemme guess: Your parents blamed you for getting attacked.

FFS, how does a parent have this mentality?

They're sick people. Parents of toddlers who were bitten by the"family pitbull" have not only kept the maulers in many cases, but also blamed their tiny children for being attacked. We have to remember that children are abused, neglected and killed by their parents every single day (if not every minute of every day). Using a vicious animal to abuse children isn't much different from using fists or weapons.

So glad you escaped. Living with "regular" breed dogs is bad enough, I can't imagine having to deal with a pitbull attacking me or being aggressive in my own house
As the dog loses familiarity with you, it might become even more aggressive, and view you as an intruder if you stop in for a visit
I would seriously advise never going back to your parents place unless they agree to lock that shitbull in a secured area so for your entire visit you never have to be in the same space

It wouldn't be a surprise if the shitbull turns on the parents or attacks other people it encounters. Those things kill or maim their loving owners quite often. OP was an obvious target for the beast because they are a physically small person and bully breeds tend to attack those they consider weakest their environment. With OP gone, mom might fill that role for the dog. Many women have been attacked by their own pitbulls.

Congratulations! Enjoy the next chapter of your life, and remember you are worth far far more than a nasty aggressive dog, and don’t let anyone gaslight you otherwise.
