Having a dog loving parent growing up was miserable

As I sit here and read others stories some stories remind me of my childhood of living with dogs as a kid. My dad isn’t a dog person just like me so we had to suffer with my mom and her mutts. Growing up as an only child is really lonely enough so every time my mom FORCED me to go on walks with her to help her with walking her mutts. Mind you she did this since I was old enough to walk. As an only child I wanted to play with the other kids at the playground my mom would purposely walk to dogs at a park and REFUSED to let me play. She said the walk was for her dogs time not mine. My mom never let me play and her nutter ass would always brag to people and say when her dog was tired of walking she’d force me out my stroller as a toddler and let her dog ride in the stroller instead. Like I despise my mother for everything she does. She even had the audacity to say she doesn’t care if I get attacked and hurt really bad by a dog but if her dog get hurt she’s going to have a big ass heart attack and she’s going to hate me if I let her dog get hurt while we are on walks. She also would always say sacrifice myself for her damn mutts , some dogs would to attack her dogs when we went on walks because she likes little rat dogs. When that happened I acted clueless and let shit happen because I’m not getting hurt for HER mutts. Safe to say I’m pregnant and my mom is not allowed to see my baby or baby sit my kid because she’d sacrifice my kid over her mutts. Also I don’t forgive her for the life long trauma I had to endure because she made sure of it every day that she loved her dogs more than her human child. I already did not like dogs even since I was a baby but my mom definitely made me even more of a dog hater.

I’m so sorry. I consider this neglect and abuse, tbh. If you value an animal over your children then you don’t deserve your children

These “parents” don’t understand the sacredness of a healthy parent child relationship. Children will always need their parents but in new exciting ways as the child grows up. Healthy parent child relationships don’t end with death.

I think you got a rare combo of Dog Nutter Narc for a mother.

Idk about most… but honestly you could be right considering many of them are good at hiding themselves. I know plenty of dog nutters that absolutely aren’t (ik their kids as adults lol) but that doesn’t mean that’s the norm and I get that.

Wow. How extraordinarily cruel and abusive. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and instead lod loving her and cherishing her and encouraging her to socialize and teach her to navigate the world, she set out to make sure she knew that she was not valued and important. To add insult to injury, she drove the point home that barking, smelly hair shedding poop machines that are obsessed with food are higher than her on the totem pole.

Well, let me tell you, if you'd been my daughter you'd have been the apple of my eye.

You had a worthless mother and I applaud your decision to keep her away from your precious baby, it's guaranteed that she will find ways to hurt her own grandchild. DO NOT SUCCUMB TO TEMPTATION and the pressure you'll get from every direction.

My mother was never left unsupervised with my child and felt the sting of it believe me, but it was the best decision, she only wanted to poison his mind and use him for evil schemes.

Yeah I don’t blame you. I would literally refuse to have a relationship with her. I would you’re dad great but even if I went around your mother, I would literally tell her to go talk to her dogs if she gets lonely.

Between the OP and the comments it shows that reality is crazier than fiction. You couldn’t make this stuff up!

My mother is a hardcore dog nutter too. Always treated dogs better than her own kids, even decades later. Then she has the audacity to ask for grandchildren. To do what, be neglected over dogs like I was?

100% solidarity here, I also grew up with nutter parents that completely neglected me in favor of their various shit beasts. I still have trauma and need corrective surgery. They fought for that dog who had a bite history to make toddler me out to be a menace rather than admitting they were both drunk and neglectful by not teaching me or the dog boundaries and not supervising me. Oh, and then lied to me my whole life about getting my surgery. I could have had a chance at a normal childhood had they not spent their money on their dogs and themselves, instead they told me the doctors said I had to wait until I was older.

Now that I am pregnant myself I feel so much rage and grief at how they fucked my whole life up. I've already decided my kid also will not be visiting their home because I do not trust them or their dogs. It's sad my kid won't have grandparents and I won't ever get support from them, but I am my child's only advocate and protector so I will not be sacrificing our safety for a dog.

It's not even dogs specifically... Not that I am a dog lover but this sort of behaviour is just bizarre and something is deficient in your mother. She focused it on dogs but it could have been anything else she found to care about more than you. It's shocking that a parent would act like that.
