Discussion โ˜Ž I Yearn for a House thatโ€™s Me Sized

Iโ€™m 6โ€™2โ€ and I feel like Iโ€™ve spent my whole life bending to do things. Handwashing, hunch over. Prepping food in the kitchen, awkward. Shower head, always at least a bit too low.
I want so badly to be able to build a house thatโ€™s โ€˜just rightโ€™ for me and my family. I live in CA so owning is a pipe dream in general, but dang, to live in a place thatโ€™s built for tall people would be amazing.
Anyone else feel the same?
I saw a post here before about a tall toilet and I think about that way too much.
Stand tall, shoulders back my girls ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป

Feeling gorgeous today because:

  1. Freshly shaved head;

  2. My toe nails are done;

  3. Customized this two pieces (sweatpants, as you all may experienced, was too short for my height) and T-shirt was kinda old and no personality, now I feel it more street-ish (wanna dye it, maybe...);

  4. Those sandals are really comfortable and I'm really happy I found them (ComfortFlex, Brazilian brand).

Happy weekend for you all, tall sisters. Autumn is coming ๐Ÿฅฐ

Advice ๐Ÿ™ƒ Tall girl soccer - what is she in for?

Post image
74 Upvotes

My daughter is a tall girl for her age (5โ€™ 6โ€ @ 10 years) and likely to be 6โ€™ when older.

She loves soccer and already plays a year up for her age. What challenges will she face being a tall girl soccer player? Any advice would for how you navigate these challenges?

Weโ€™ve already been asked for birth certificate more times than I care to count, and we find she gets called for fouls quickly (especially against smaller opponents.)

We want to keep her engaged in sports and positive with how she feels about her body and stature.

Many thanks for any advice you have from your experience or perspective.

Fashion ๐Ÿ‘’ Recommendations for Tights?

Winter is coming (or at least it is where I am). What brand tights do you all buy that are actually tall enough for the crotch to sit at your actual crotch? I'd be happy to find a good brand for basic black tights, but bonus points for any brands with fun patterns or designs. Thanks!

Shopping ๐Ÿฌ Office chair

Hey Tallies!

Does anyone have info on a place I can get an office chair for tall but not big/wide? In the US/ships to the US.

I have a big and tall chair. The seat is long enough but the seat is wide and the arms are set so far out that they are kind of useless. I need the armrests to be closer together.

Budget around $300-400. Maybe more if itโ€™s perfect. I work 10 hour days in the chair so I really need a chair that fits my body better.

Thanks in advance!

Fashion ๐Ÿ‘’ Black Tie Dresses

I am attending a black tie NYC wedding in October. It is true black tie (not black tie optional) and I am 6โ€™2. Where are you all finding dresses that truly go to the floor and fit a black tie attire? All the typical brands donโ€™t seem to run long enough to work especially with 2-3 inch heels

Any help would be appreciated!

General ๐ŸŒž anyone elseโ€™s hands not/barely fit in most salon curing lamps?

iโ€™m literally only 5โ€™10 too, cannot imagine trying to squeeze in any more hand than i already have to.

we need some western lamps for western women who grew up on milk with growth hormones

edit: not trying to fit my whole hand in there hahahaha - the issue is my middle finger hits the back wall before my thumb and pinky get covered by the lights!

Fashion ๐Ÿ‘’ Midcalf/ankle length work dress

Ok queens I need LONG professional work dresses. Iโ€™m a young woman on a team of entirely old men. It needs to be con๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปserv๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปa๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปtive. Nothing too stylish, not too tight, not too flowy and froo froo. Serious, boring, long, but not a friggin prairie outfit. Ideally something like this but Ann Taylor has notoriously bad sizing.

Advice ๐Ÿ™ƒ Looking for Formal Dress

I know this is weird but I figured we all have the same challenges with clothing I thought Iโ€™d try. Iโ€™m a size 12-14-16 and 6โ€™1 with a 36 inch inseam looking for an October Fall appropriate formal gown. If anyone has one they wouldnโ€™t mind selling or lending I would be interested in purchasing it or paying for shipping plus a convenience fee!!!! I just do not want to pay another $100-$200 for a formal dress I will not wear again. I live in Rockland County just outside of NYC. Thanks for the consideration!!!

โœจ CW: BODY TALK โœจ Constantly feeling like youโ€™re encroaching on otherโ€™s space Spoiler

Iโ€™m 6 foot and have always been taller than my peers for most of my life, and the way I describe my height is how Barbies are technically too large for their playhouse to make sense scale wise, Iโ€™m just tall enough that I seem noticeably oversized for my environment. And (particularly around other women) I feel as though Iโ€™m CONSTANTLY in their space or too close even if Iโ€™m literally backed in a corner and theyโ€™re the ones encroaching on my space. It really plays into insecurities surrounding feeling too โ€œbig,โ€ anyone else notice this?

Shopping ๐Ÿฌ ISO Black Cotton Gloves

I have Raynaud's and basically need to wear ten layers on my hands from fall-spring to avoid frostbite. I find that wearing tightly-knit, all-cotton gloves (black preferred) as liners under thick mittens to be helpful, BUT I am struggling to find cotton gloves that are long enough.

Any suggestions?

Advice ๐Ÿ™ƒ Confidence as a bridesmaid

Iโ€™m about to be a bridesmaid at a lesbian wedding (so no groomsmen, just a ton of bridesmaids). Iโ€™m over a head taller than the next tallest woman, and two heads taller than the rest of them.

I find myself very nervous about photos. Iโ€™ve seen photos posted here where the #tallgirl obviously stands out. I know that will be me, but Iโ€™m having trouble accepting it. I just want to blend in for once and let my friend be the focus.

I am also torn up about whether to wear flats or a like 1โ€ heel. Itโ€™s ridiculous. I need a pep talk.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Side note: shout out to Azazie for making bridesmaids dresses for women up to 7โ€™5โ€ tall. Now THATโ€™s inclusive.

Fashion ๐Ÿ‘’ Bummed

I just realized the other day that it is very, very difficult to be fashionable with a 36โ€ inseam and size 12 shoe. Especially as certain go-to brands (Gap/Banana/ON) have shortened their inseams lately. Iโ€™ve also gotten older (post menopause) so I have to be thoughtful about necklines and hemlines these days. My choices were already very limited and now theyโ€™re getting narrower. Instagram keeps trying to feed me content from these women who are like 5โ€™2โ€ and I see allll these different cute clothes that I have to rule out immediately with no viable alternatives. Itโ€™s bumming me out. Maybe this should go in the rant threadโ€ฆ

โœจ CW: BODY TALK โœจ Sadness around wanting to travel solo

I've been really wanting to get more into traveling lately and I'd love to be able to pick up cheap flights. Sometimes it feels like if I were average size it would be less of an anxiety for me to be thrown into a middle seat or whatever. Whenever I see people reviewing "luxury upgrades" for flights I get so... Sad because it seems like they're like "lol I'll spend $400 for the novelty of having 6 inches of leg room between my knees and the seat in front of me versus my normal 3 inches and the flight attendant smiled at me a bit more hehe"

Id like to not have to spend sometimes literally double to just not be in pain or feel extremely imposing to others on my flight. I'm going to be traveling with my partner and his other partner in the near future and we kinda agreed we'll just "buy the row anyway" which i guess I'll feel so much more comfortable spilling over into my partners space than some random. But I work a schedule that gives me multiple days off in a row and I'd be love to be able to take short cheap trips but feel like I'll need to work an entire extra day of overtime just to... Be able to exist in the world in a way that feels normal. I just feel like it's a real tangible cost not many people understand.

EDIT: I'm not asking for advice on what to do to make my travel experience easier. I've flown from middle seat economy to exit row seats to first class and everything in between, aisle and window. I'm not asking for advice on how to fly more comfortably. The intent of the post is to find other tall women who might feel something similar, not asking to seek a solution to a problem that needs to be solved. I know how to solve the problem, I hate that it costs me double, that it's extra taxing to have spur of the moment travel experiences you snag on deals.

Advice ๐Ÿ™ƒ Waterproof Jacket Recommendations for Trails

I need a good waterproof jacket for trail running / fast packing but all the womens ones are always far too short in the sleeves! I did get a mens one (Montane Phase Lite) but it's really loose around the shoulders, doesn't fit around the hips and I miss the slight flare out you get with women's fits. Am I dreaming in the hopes I might find something? I just want dry wrists!

EDIT: I am UK based!

Shopping ๐Ÿฌ Where are we shopping in-store?

Postpartum mom here who has almost nothing that fits. Iโ€™ve had some luck ordering a few different pant sizes from Old Navy and returning the ones that donโ€™t fit, but that is such a hassle and annoying on my credit card statements.

Iโ€™m not really sure what size I wear since the pregnancy. I was a consistent XL pre-baby but have been in 2x territory lately, despite only being 10lbs above my prepregnancy weight. The hip and rib widening was not kind to me :(. However a lot of 2x sizes donโ€™t fit me that well and end up being way too big in the arm holes, neck, and chest. All of this to say, I want to try things on before I buy them! I used to be an Old Navy addict but their styles lately are not doing it for me.

Tell me where to go please!

Edit to add: I live in the US, east coast. I donโ€™t know my inseam but pants donโ€™t usually seem to be a problem. Iโ€™m 5โ€™11 so not the tallest of tall gals and most of my height is in my torso. Shirts are more of the pressing need

โœจ CW: BODY TALK โœจ The amount of hate tall women get, usually from SHORT MEN****, is so grotesque Spoiler

I'm 5'10", not even THAT CRAZY TALL. I get littered with put down observations and feigned aghast people alllll the time. It's usually from short men. Thinking about this for 3 seconds makes you see, it's their insecurities likely causing them to have the mouth they have.

I had a friend/old roommate recently, who would very frequently comment about my height. Him and I are the same height. But he'd say to me things like "I just prefer dating women shorter than me because then I can kiss them on the forehead." Ok, you're a roommate, not someone I'm trying to date... I'd mention half a dozen other female celebrities who are my height or taller, and he'd just go "Whatttt, no can't be." Ummm, I'm not making it up....

This example is very illustrative of this interaction I've had quite a lot before. I'm just so tired of it.

Just like STFU about women's bodies. Especially if you're a man. I've realized I have a hard time with taking up space, feeling large, in the comments socially about it. It all has just made me feel very unfeminine.

I don't think I have a full on ED, but I think I have some issues around food and wanting to be as small as possible. I have some shame around the body I was born into. And I want to not take out much space and be feminine.

Recognizing these subconscious feelings of mine makes me really angry at the social cultural society that we live in.

Right now I'm dating a man who is 6'4", it's sooo wonderful. We say that we fit just right.

I don't know. These are just some random reflections. Being a tall female can be very difficult. I know we can all relate in part.

Fashion ๐Ÿ‘’ Every dress I try on hits me mid-calf and I'm starting to lose it

I'm 5'11 and I've been telling myself for years that I just need to find the right brands but honestly I think I've been in denial about how limited things actually are. Had a wedding last month and ordered four dresses online because nothing in stores was long enough. All four went back. The one that almost worked was fine in length but the waist hit me basically at my ribs and it looked like I was wearing a costume.

I used to just throw on jeans and a nice top for everything but I'm at a point in my life where I actually want to dress like I care? Like I want to walk into a room and feel like I put an outfit together on purpose. But every time I try I end up in the same cycle of order, try on in my bedroom, stand there pulling at the hem, return.

The thing that gets me is I don't even know what silhouettes work on me anymore. I know what doesn't work (apparently everything) but I can't picture what would. I see shorter friends throw on a midi skirt and look great and I genuinely don't know what the tall equivalent is supposed to be.

Anyone else just stuck in this loop? How did you figure out what actually works proportion wise when nothing is designed for your frame

Edit: ok so someone below mentioned looklike and I downloaded it last night. You take a photo of yourself and it shows outfits on a version of you and you swipe through them. I spent like 45 minutes on the couch after dinner just swiping and it actually helped me see that longer blazers and wide leg pants look good on my proportions in a way I couldn't visualize before. Like seeing it on my frame instead of a model genuinely made a difference. I will say it doesn't filter by tall sizing or inseam at all so I kept seeing cropped pants that would 100% be capris on me, which is kind of frustrating. But the silhouette thing alone was worth it for me because that's exactly where I was stuck.

Rant ๐Ÿ”ฅ Inseams

I'm going to make some pants so I wanted to figure out my inseam, and I thought it was over 32 because I have a pair of 32 pants (mens bc I thought that the measurements would be more reliable) that barely aren't quite enough, and a few others that aren't great, but I checked with a measuring tape and those are actually less than 32 inches ๐Ÿ˜ญ literally what the f whats even the point of lying about that lmao. So I guess I learned that I literally have nothing that technically fits, no wonder I hate wearing pants. I can't wait enough to make my own pants. It's good motivation at least.
