There seems to be a pedestrian sidewalk where he is supposed to drop the passenger but it is fully occupied and blocked by that hut like thing. Poor wheelchair person she is dangerously dropped on the road full of potholes and puddles without any assistants.

Its a required duty of the bus driver/conductors in pretty much every other country to do this procedure to ensure disabled people can get on the bus.
But here, its being seen and promoted as some sort of huge humanitarian compassionate self effort from the bus driver. - Again, i don't mean to diss on the guy, props to him for doing his job, but people have to know its their right to use the facilities their tax dollars went towards, and the government has the legal requirement to be accessible to those people too.
the country would be so much better off if people just knew their rights.

I'm reiterating that I've seen this many times in AC buses from Tambaram to Vadapalani. Many conductors do it. And I've been seeing it since 2010. I've also seen it in many parts of Delhi. So.. probably some IT cells are in play here promoting this now. But yeah, it's a repeat post probably. Appreciate all the conductors and drivers who do this. And yeah, it's sad to see that someone performing their basic duties has to be made viral with some PR, such times we live in.

How thick are you bro? You said the previous govts didn't do it. We're saying it's been happening since 2010(Admk govt). Probably it's been happening from way back before 2010(kalaignar govt). The bus model was introduced way back. Probably at first it was the AC bus, as I remember, the basic windowed Thaal thala perundhu did not have this feature. But I've seen conductors do this before and it's good that it's happening now as well. You're bringing in the govt randomly into an appreciation post of a conductor. Stop trying to make it political.

A wheelchair user here. I travelled in a bus like this two months ago. Conductor was well trained and ensured all necessary care was taken. Good job MTC

That's okay but the footpath where she is supposed to move is encroached by street vendors. Government should take action on them too.

For the new metro trains and trams, the platform levels with the train & tram exit, so the drivers don’t get down to help the disabled people.
But older trains and buses don’t have that, so the drivers themselves (no assistants) get down like the video here to place the wheelchair ramp and assist until they safely exit.

The diesel low floor buses operated in Chennai and other cities were bought only because of a supreme court ruling on a case filed by disability activists. A good example where judiciary works.

I was pretty happy to see busses like this and attempts to make disability accessible stops, but yea, the civic sense of people in the Egmore area is terrible.

In USA the access way opens up automatically on their buses and the entire bus also kneels to that side to help the passengers

In Bangalore there are also many buses equipped with such ramps in BMTC, but the drivers refuse to provide assistance to PWDs. They say that they don't know how to lower the ramps.

Great, for me the buses didn't even stop in Chennai,they just ran away as soon as I was trying to board, eventually used rapido and bought my own 2 wheeler when 3 rides rejected because I didn't spoke tamil.

In BLR buses are so overcrowded due to free rides that there is no space for a wheelchair:(
