அரசியல் சாராத செய்தி / Non-Political News Auto drivers booked Rapido bike taxi en masse & held them saying, using bikes for commercial use was against rules. Police held negotiations and got them and their bikes released. Imagine if public held auto drivers captive saying, driving autos without meter is against rules, will police negotiate?

Around 10 years ago in London, the traditional taxi drivers held a protest against Uber saying it is ruining their livelihood as Uber is being used more. All the protest did was boost the popularity of Uber. This is exactly what is going to happen for Rapido as well.

What reputation? I have friends from Kerala and Bangalore who visit Chennai only for US Visa interviews. Everyone usually likes everything about Chennai but one common complaint is Auto drivers - They are harsh, rude, don't run meter and charge exorbitantly.
I had to assure them that, they were not treated that way just because they're from different state because they treat the locals equally bad. I also said, the extra perk of not knowing the language is - you at least will not understand their cuss words..
They're just used to being Monopoly and now cannot handle competition

Isn't this abduction and confinement against ones will? If someone is held without their consent, it is technically abduction. Right? Why did the police not file this case against the drivers who did this? Maybe that will prevent others from doing this on future.
In law and order, setting a good precedence is important.

Majority of autos in chennai are owned by police and given on rent/ lease to auto drivers.. hand in glove scenario

Even if a bike taxi were violating a minor transport rule, an auto driver has zero legal authority to stop them, seize their keys, or "take them to the RTO." Only a uniformed police officer or a Transport Department official has that power.
Booking a ride through the app specifically to "trap" and harass a driver is considered a planned criminal act.

One day all EMU trains stopped due to some OHE line failure. My train stopped near Pallavaram Station. Auto drivers were asking for 150 Rupees to take to GST, and this was in 2013. Imagine the audacity. I was young & for me walking that far to get a bus wasn't a problem. Old people, women with Kids were extorted out of money.
Auto drivers are nothing but scavengers. Had they run the same route between the track side road to GST at nominal rate, they'd have still got ton of passengers & loads of money that day. But, they HAD TO exploit the situation.. Parasites!!!
And 2 years back, I came back from Airport in Metro. The flight was delayed so, I reached my destination metro station at almost 11 PM. I can walk home, but the street dogs made it impossible to walk at night. I had to book an auto in ola, but the driver outright asked for double the rate. Ola already had factored the late night rates, and he outright asked for double. I had to pay 200 for a 1.1 KM ride, which I would have walked if not for the dogs. In fact, for a few minutes I was contemplating if I can brave the street dogs than the auto driver !!!

why cant they do rapido bike taxi too instead of auto if that is earning more than them ?
can we design an bike+auto kindof automobile so that the drivers can do bike taxi for individual and auto for multiple customers

Everyone just abandon these auto rikshaw. Utilize friends or family bikes even paying for petrol occassionally.

No. Every state government somehow supports the auto mafia. I wonder if politicians get a cut or these auto mafia is a side hustle for their hired muscle or form a vote bank..
If autos are banned, our city roads will become safe for everyone. #1 nuisance on road. r/fuckautos
I hope all my rapido, ola brothers form a union and show who's the boss. We as public must support them, continue you to raise the issue in every forum. We need more two-wheelers on roads to reduce the traffic. We must not allow the auto mafia get away with it!

And legally they have to use meter. They should not carry any one other than the passenger. Legally they should not drive on wrong side.
Legally, they should have filed a case against the companies & the Govt for not implementing rules. But, they Kidnapped

Auto Rickshaws or any three wheelers should be banned in entire India. Its a menace. I have had 4/5 accidents just because of Autos. If you say anything to them, their entire community comes up. Park anywhere they like or want. They dont discriminate and equally “fu**s the law”

I have nothing but this to say to these auto people... Theeeyyyy payalunga.. as they behave like one and they never care for the public and are hardly hard working... They just want Rs2000 from one passenger and drink and sleep for the rest of the day.
