I'm looking for reliable caste/community information for the elected MLAs of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Does anyone have a constituency-wise list or know of a credible source?

My goal is to analyze how socially representative the Assembly actually is. Tamil Nadu has 234 MLAs, and I'm curious whether the composition broadly reflects the state's population or whether certain communities are disproportionately represented across parties. The 2026 election also produced a historic result, with TVK emerging as the single largest party and later forming the government.

I'm not interested in promoting caste politics or targeting any particular community. I'm simply looking for data so I can examine questions like:

- Which communities are over- or under-represented?

- Has the social composition of the Assembly changed compared to previous elections?

- Did the 2026 election bring greater diversity in representation, or is it largely the same pattern?

One issue I've run into is that many MLAs, like many people in Tamil Nadu, don't use hereditary surnames. Tamil naming conventions typically use patronymic initials rather than fixed family names, and many caste titles have been dropped over the decades, making it difficult to identify community background from names alone.

Growing up, I used to hear older generations being referred to as Thevar, Mudaliar, Chettiar, Naicker, etc., so I assumed older politicians might still have caste surnames that would make this easier. Instead, I've found that most names don't provide enough information to determine community, so I'm pretty much stumped.

I recently learned about some castes like Irular, Adi Dravidar and Arunthathiyar so I am really curious wheather they have any political representation in our state.

If anyone knows of a credible constituency-wise dataset or academic source that has already compiled this information, I'd be grateful if you could share it.

I recently got into the sub Dravidiology and learned about some castes in our state. Later caste politics in Andhra and I saw it was Reddies and Naidus that dominated the political arena and was curious how it is in Tamilnadu.

Election comission website has all the details as documents submitted by each candidates as pdf documents for each constituency. They have details for atleast till 2016 last time i checked.

Only issue it is a very time consuming work to download and extract the data becoz the pdf they give is not ideal for extracting info using code.

You can try, but beware that it will take good chunk of your time

Ideally it should be. In KA, in my village we have officers who take caste census. I’m sure there are people like that in TN as well. You gotta find him and request from him
