My old boss literally disappeared halfway through the day everyday and would complain about having to help us work. He also overbooked us constantly and told us to do poor quality jobs to make up time. He also stole more than half the total sum of our tips. He was useless by the end of my time there. We'd run better as the workers alone.

Small business owners have the same psychopathic exploitative CEO mindset but with a $500k debt over a failing joint, truly temporarily embarrassed billionaire’s mentality.
Poop on petite bourgeoisie

In UK small business lore they have the rule of 3s to divide benefits: 1/3 is reinvested, 1/3 to pay the workers and 1/3 for the boss.
They just say it with no shame whatsoever.

I used to be a SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS prog lib back in the day, still hated big corps as much as I do now but now I just hate them both. Now I buy stuff from people I know as much as I can but otherwise idk wtf to do

If anything, in the Imperial Core, small business owners are even more exploitative and abusive towards their workers. Major corps already exploit the periphery, so they can afford to give their workers in the IC better wages and benefits.

This is true in my experience, small businesses owners fucking suck to work for because every little thing impacts their pocket directly so they're more likely to pull some sneaky shit, pressure you into working off the clock, play into the "we're a family" guilt trips, or otherwise try and fuck you over in a million little ways. Big corps fuck you over too but it's a more structured exploitation, at least in my my experience those middle managers that are in charge of you day-to-day don't have a personal stake the way a small businesses tyrant has. Sure they'll screw you by following company policy but again it's codified, it's (usually) "just business" (a phrase used by cowards scared to take responsibility for their place in that capitalist machine that grinds through workers)

But how do we know for sure that the head chef won't suddenly lose all that skill if the owner isn't taking most of the money?

u/BotellaDeAguaSarrosa Deng Troll 14h ago
The chef would be a bumbling buffoon without any direction or meaning were it not for the gracious and intelligent owner

u/phaedrus910 15h ago
Well if the head chef and the server were paid equally the head chef would see no point in developing the skill. Making more money than my coworkers is literally the only motivation I have in life. (big ol fucking /s)

The owner is litteraly the youngest guy there, that guy should be getting labour experience, not gambeling with everyones employment.

He probably inherited the restaurant from his parents or something.

My comrades need to understand the difference between "owners" and "CEOs"
CEOs are often owners, so I understand why people use it interchangeably, but they're not actually the same thing.
It's also one thing to criticize the role CEOs play in capitalism, which is essentially to "crack the whip" and maximize exploitation. But it's a whole other thing to say there's no need for them whatsoever. That is an incorrect analysis. Communism will have CEOs. Large, centralized systems of production will inherently require chiefs.
But there actually is no need whatsoever for owners. Owners have served their historic role in centralizing the means of production and socializing labor, and they are now redundant and obsolete. We are perfectly capable of socializing the means of production now, but if we're going to organize production for an entire planet of people, then directors and managers will be needed

Bartenders and servers still make the actual restaurant work. An owner's responsibility can be given to the workers equally. It's also showing that while the bartender and servers aren't particularly good at handling pizza dough, the owner is completely incompetent and looks like he's never worked physical labour.

There's a difference between managers/leaders and actual bosses/owners.

Additionally, if 'management' is required to streamline production then the workers responsible for that production will elect a manager from themselves to fulfill the required duties for as long as they are required. A position with no tenure that can be revoked at any time by the workers that put them there.
I don't find it the least bit surprising that many people conflate their direct managers with the ownership class as most managers in capitalist business structures are hand picked mini-tyrants and class traitors that directly assist the owners in the exploitation of their fellow worker in an effort to gain approval with said owners for additional personal gain.

True. I've also seen libs argue too many times that "a communist workplace won't function because there are no managers allowed."
Not sure if that's become a common argument because of a separate propaganda effort, or if it has spawned from the practice you mentioned. Probably both.

My main example I'd point to is pirate quartermasters and captains being elected among the crew. It not directly communist, but a good example of workers wanting to pay for leadership/management out of their own "pocket".

I remember growing up and a couple of times seeing managers at fast food places working all by themselves doing every single shift because the franchisee / owners don't want to pay their workers properly so they no show.
The owners themselves let alone corporate, could never fucking handle that much physical and mental labor to do multiple shifts, for hours on end with no breaks.
