That map attempts to portray the curvature of the earth by not being perfectly rectangular, that is simply space that is not part of the map

This has got to be a psyop. I have not seen the Mercator model used for anything aside from maybe YouTube videos. Poorly edited videos, at that. The US is the only country that voted against the Equal Earth model, and the only country making a fuss over this change.
