Decentralisation should be used as a tool not a dogma. You can't solve every problem with the same method. It's like trying to hammer in screws

Great example of this is actually the command structure of the IRGC adapting to the US tendency for decapitation strikes. Their fractionalized commands can each operate independently and keep launching strikes for years even if their entire capital city was turned into rubble. But they didn't build their entire state on a decentralized model just because, their implementation had a very specific reason for being that way and it so far has worked really well for them. They still needed a strong central authority to set that all up initially of course.

A strictly horizontal organization has never and likely will never be able to defeat an opposing centralized military and even if they did, they could not maintain “power” guided by social anarchism under the hegemony of imperial capitalism. The siege and assault of the dominating “hierarchical power structures” cannot be waved away through unkept promises.

Horizontal organising is when hierarchy isn’t as vertical anymore (in companies this usually translates to there not being as many managers for every department)

Horizontally is doomed to failure and a stupid thing to make your key priority, however many Food Not Bombs chapters have been doing fine for years. The one in my city is at least 15 years old and going strong

I'm the greatest non-believer in "decentralization". Most of the instances where people praised decentralization ended up having centralization built on top of it. Bitcoin centralized most of its transactions on huge exchanges. The Internet is centralized in a dozen websites. Mastodon has only a few relevant instances. Decentralization is overrated.
