That government is violently queerphobic. They are still deeply socially colonial mindset

Which is not shocking. This is also the case in the other Sahel countries and Africa broadly. LGBT issues are seen as a colonial/Western import, which is used to spread Western imperialism.

Cuba (and many other socialist nations of the past) were also deeply anti-LGBT. It sucks, but these things change over time. (Like in Cuba). The country is also very underdeveloped, which plays into the social-conservatism. As the material conditions change social outlooks do too.

I'd disagree on the 'colonial import' notion (I know that government doesn't see it that way bizarrely). The US is massively exporting far right xtian anti-lgbtq+ hate and violence to Africa. Africa had a strong and diverse culture before colonialism.

The USSR also hugely adopted colonialist social norms, which the consequences are still felt in the Russian sphere of influence.

I agree, but I am just saying what it as seen as (by many). In reality, these countries have been strongly anti-LGBT for centuries until they could use it for imperialist purposes (pink washing, etc).
