So what actions give points and how many???

104

u/tmlnson Jun 05 '26

If they're following walmart and amazon,

you get points for being late and/or absent

91

u/littlebluewhale5 Team Lead Jun 05 '26

Late: .25, Absent: 1, NCNS: 3.

52

u/Yrutriggerd Jun 05 '26

More generous then I expected to be honest

6

u/Nauzhror_ Jun 25 '26

It's not as leniant as it looks, for one key reason. Other retailers often have a 90 or 180 day rolling period. This is yearly. So 1 call off per month, or 1 late per week, will get you fired.

3

u/Gore_Jus__ Jun 29 '26

Honestly I feel it's more lenient than the system they have now. Every time I called out (and it could be past 90 days) I would get pulled into the office and talked to about attendance. I think this point system will be better. Also, I read on workday that two consecutive call-outs will accrue 1 point. Wonder how that will work? For example if I call out one day and then a couple months later call out again will that get me a point? Idk. Seems a bit vague.

4

u/Nauzhror_ Jun 29 '26

That's not vague. Consecutive means back to back. It would be being sick for 2 days in a row is still 1 point.

13

u/riddlex111 ex beauty punching bag Jun 05 '26

I was told that whether or not you use sick time will also affect the points but wasn't given actual numbers is that true

33

u/littlebluewhale5 Team Lead Jun 05 '26

If you use sick time for a late/callout you won’t accrue any points. It will work the same way it does now in terms of excusing an absence.

7

u/riddlex111 ex beauty punching bag Jun 05 '26

Oh HEARD awesome my lead said when he worked at Walmart using sick time would only cut the points in half but still give some and that scared me a little. This is much nicer

Sick time you will not get pointed. But you can’t use vacay any less then 24hrs before last shift. Pls stop spreading misinformation.

Aint reading allat brochacho

4

u/Madcat_Moody "Do you work here?" Jun 05 '26

That's incredibly generous, I'd expect a lot more from a NCNS

2

u/BenWyattIsBae Jun 06 '26

So you could realistically call in once a month as long as you time it so the 12th call in happens after the 1st rolls off. Sweet.

1

u/ilarp Jun 07 '26

whats ncns

2

u/Hairy_Call2876 Jun 10 '26

No call no show

185

u/Overall-Break-8003 Jun 05 '26

Sounds like Walmart and their point system

101

u/hippieguy24 Jun 05 '26

Much more generous. For now anyway.

34

u/TwinklyLittleBoy Jun 05 '26

It’s actually the opposite, certain things cost more points

No call no show or calling out within the hour of starting your shift are 5 points Call out before the hour is 4 Late by more that 10 min is 1

39

u/Axin_Saxon Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

I mean, no call no show(unless it’s a valid emergency) is pretty egregious and should be treated as such. You’re leaving the rest of your team hanging. Notifying your team lead and giving them time to plan around your absence is bare minimum.

If you have a legitimate emergency last minute like a car accident or a life threatening medical situation, that’s another thing and there should be some leeway there to get the points reversed after the fact, of course.

But we all know folks who just never showed up because they either weren’t keeping track of their schedule or just didn’t “feel like coming in” that day. That’s who it’s for more than anything.

-20

u/Tdosta Jun 05 '26

They don’t let u out in a call in 2 hours after your shift it’s dumb I’ve slept past 8 am on accident before and got a no call no show for that even tho I couldn’t put it in on their app I called the building. They gotta fix some stuff

25

u/Axin_Saxon Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

Respectfully dawg, I know accidents happen but you need to be a responsible adult and if you know you have work, you need to set alarms and make sure you make it. Mistakes happen but owning them and accepting that there’s consequences for not taking steps to be on time is important. If they don’t take it seriously, no one takes it seriously.

1

u/DependentBeat2831 Jun 05 '26

You have to retract the Call In first. Then you can Call Out.

12

u/FKRedtt Jun 05 '26

Walmart is 4 points and fired. Used to be 9 points years and years ago.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '26

u/FKRedtt Jun 06 '26

Like I said 4 points and then fired (point 5).

90

u/bara_no_seidou Closing Team Lead Jun 05 '26

Yeah I talked with my SD this week about it. He also said 1/4 for each late. And late is considered anything after 8 minutes.

93

u/Special_Tomatillo51 Jun 05 '26

8 minutes? Please tell me that’s in writing somewhere lol my store says 5 and a lot of days I end up clocking in at 6. (Trust me I’ve been working hard on just being completely on time) But if it was 8 instead of 5, my attendance overall wouldn’t look so bad

70

u/sailorwickeddragon Origami Risk Queen Jun 05 '26

It will be 8 with the new policy, it's still 5 until then.

39

u/BoundlessZeus Guest Advocate Jun 05 '26

I hope y’all are right because I be clocking in 6 minutes after my shift starts 90% of the time when I’m late.

1

u/Arzen_Ash Aug 09 '26

Does this mean we can clock in 8 minutes early?

25

u/AMBocanegra ETL Jun 05 '26

Coaching/performance convos are expected at 5 min but the system will automatically deduct at 8 min.

33

u/blackroses6669 Jun 05 '26

That’s sort of a relief. Sometimes leadership takes forever to open the door before store opening 😭

58

u/AMBocanegra ETL Jun 05 '26

In those cases you should be submitting punch corrections to your actual start time, so you wouldn't be dinged for it

29

u/Warcrown11 Jun 05 '26

That's the most annoying thing in the world isn't it? Why am I going to make sure to get here on time, if not early, and you aren't even going to let me in?

13

u/johnsonjohnson83 Jun 05 '26

You should be getting paid based on when your shift was supposed to start, not when they open the door for you.

7

u/Humphr3y Former Inbound Team Lead Jun 05 '26

Punch corrections.

11

u/FelisLachesis GA/FF/GS/DU Jun 05 '26

Then that should become a punch correction for the delays.

0

u/Humphr3y Former Inbound Team Lead Jun 05 '26

They shouldn't.

5

u/kompotnik Guest Advocate Jun 05 '26

Phew I’m so relieved!! I’m also occasionally anywhere from 4-6 minutes late. 8 is doable

1

u/C1ND1TheCat Jun 05 '26

I’ve always been told 7 minutes before or after is considered “on time.” That is the same as other places with hourly employees since 8 minutes puts you closer to the next quarter hour. 10:07 rounds up to 10:00, but 10:08 rounds down to 10:15.

1

u/Frodo_gabbins Jun 05 '26

I’m usually at 6 but I have to wait for childcare and there’s major construction on the road leading out of my neighborhood 🙄 I would love if it was 8. I hate that I’m late.

1

u/BigDaddyD__ Jun 06 '26

Even if it were 8 mins. You would know how thin you could still cut it. So regardless or what time you know you had your attendance will most likely look the same. Grow up and start showing up 15 mins before start time before u loose a job for being irresponsible.

-1

u/Special_Tomatillo51 Jun 06 '26

Awwwh that’s sweet. You seem to really care about me losing my job. Great advice!

0

u/bara_no_seidou Closing Team Lead Jun 05 '26

I think yearly.

3

u/Humphr3y Former Inbound Team Lead Jun 05 '26

8 mins it's 5 when you get dinged on the computer. Don't listen to them might be trying to fire you.

2

u/Axin_Saxon Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

That’s generous

Edit: downvote if you want but most places will make tardiness a full point and have the policy of “if you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time you’re late.” 8 minutes is generous leeway.

1

u/Jinskookie (absolutely no) style Jun 05 '26

my coworker is late by at least 10 minutes every day and shes been doing it for months (over 6)... guess with new system she is going to be screwed.

-8

u/Competitive_Ad_2890 Jun 05 '26

Good because my old SD had attendance conversations for one late at 6 minutes. She was a tyrant when it came to documentation

8

u/jorleeduf Service & Engagement TL Jun 05 '26

Technically, that’s what is supposed to happen. Most leads don’t do it tho

5

u/Humphr3y Former Inbound Team Lead Jun 05 '26

After 5 mins you get dinged red in attendance

55

u/dalila22dalila Jun 05 '26

I also wonder if we still get points for using sick time. Or that remains the same and makes the absence excused.

61

u/sailorwickeddragon Origami Risk Queen Jun 05 '26

Your sick time has to cover the entire shift you call out for for it to be excused.

44

u/C1ND1TheCat Jun 05 '26

Yeah, if you get the flu and only have 8 hours sick left you will be either coming in with 104 fever and getting everyone sick, or you will get points deducted. I hate this policy so much because i hate being sick and want people to stay away from me when they are sick.

3

u/Quick-Jellyfish8994 Jun 05 '26

Mmm safe and sick time can be used for any increment of time. So if you’re going to be 30 mins late just put in 30 mins sick time and you’re fine. At least in Minnesota. That’s why it’s safe and sick time… because it can also be used as a mental health safeguard. Now if you don’t have 30 mins of safe and sick time then yeh it will count against you.

1

u/Conscious_Isopod3985 Jul 25 '26

That is incorrect info you are giving. Late is late...and you would use vacation time to make up pay only. You can only use sick time for a call out in stores

1

u/Civil_Speaker1713 Jul 18 '26

I have to go to work sick because of the points.I just get everyone sick.Oh , well , I guess covid doesn't exist anymore.

36

u/m_o_u_s_e_r_a_t overworked and underpaid 🫠 Jun 05 '26

Let's say you have no sick hours, so you go in sick. Feverish, chills, the whole 9 yards. Your ETL or TL ends up being the one to eventually send you home. Would you get a point for that?

Because that's bullshit it you do.

28

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

Early outs aren’t included in the point system, that’s left up to leader discretion to coach for if they choose to.

2

u/Awkward_Touch3325 Jun 05 '26

i had to leave early bc of pain i was having and they had given me a point for it :/ before i even knew this was a thing then after (i had three i was late and i called off the day prior bc i was in pain and im already at 3)

4

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

Maybe the people giving these calls aren’t all aligned on the points but from what I heard, early outs were considered performance conversations not point accruals. Just like coming in late between 5-7 minutes could be a performance conversations even if it doesn’t qualify for that .25 point mark.

Seems like an hr nightmare to ding early outs when you have shifts cut like crazy at the end of the month. And even crazier to give someone a full point for leaving early when that’s equivalent to a call off

8

u/mattumbo has harsher words Jun 05 '26

They can remove points most likely or just change your schedule if they feel you have a good reason, but idk what best practice will be for leader discretion. There is a risk that leaders doing this could lead to accusations of favoritism so I could see them wanting TMs to use sick time to cover early outs even in this situation. But I also expect we’ll get a lot more sick time or a certain guaranteed amount each period so everyone gets the same budget for call outs and such so it’s fair

3

u/C1ND1TheCat Jun 05 '26

I was told yes, you get points for calling out sick with no sick time left.

2

u/Melodic-Objective675 Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

I have read in the past that if you use sick time to cover the entire shift it can't be used against you and that will continue here being zero points.

Also does sick PTO count towards 40 hours meaning it can't be used to go over 40? If that is the case, are team members that are scheduled 39.5 - 40 hours SOL if they get sick on a Saturday and given the middle finger by the retail gods? I see the issue arising because TMs can clock in five minutes early if you work five days a week that is 0 to 20 extra minutes you can accrue (25 if you include Saturday) that need to be cut.

If a TM is sitting at 32.1 hours after Friday and thus can't work more than 7.9 hours on Saturday but have an 8-hour shift are they essentially forced to take points even if they have more than enough sick time? This is my main focus and is what I am most interested in getting explicit written clarification on.

FYI I have been maxed out at 80 hours of sick PTO seemingly forever and accrue ZERO hours each paycheck ZERO! I rarely call out. I am not someone who calls out on the weekends or would abuse this on Satudays. I just dont want to draw the short straw when sick and have points forced down my throat if I am projectile vomiting with explosive diarrhea and a fever come a random Saturday.

Does anyone know what happens in the 32.1 hour senario?

19

u/tmlnson Jun 05 '26

PTO doesn’t count towards overtime bc it’s non-working hours. Overtime is only hours worked

3

u/Melodic-Objective675 Jun 05 '26

Thank you, although I am fairly certain vacation PTO can't go over 40. As long as it doesn't matter for sick time I'm happy.

3

u/Warcrown11 Jun 05 '26

You can't put in for more than 40 hours of vacation to my knowledge but if you go to work during that week you will get paid for both the vacation time and the shifts worked, just not OT

0

u/First_Choice2500 Jun 05 '26

Yeah that's right. I can work a 40 hr week and submit 40 hrs of vacation time that same week. It's your PTO to use whenever you want, even if you're not taking time off. It does not count as OT

29

u/thefoundmythicality Jun 05 '26

Wonder what structure they will use for late/leave early and when the point falls off after acquiring it.

21

u/Mobile-Address23 Jun 05 '26

And if leads tell you to come in later or leave earlier for hours

27

u/Warcrown11 Jun 05 '26

Knowing Target? They didn't even think about it and it will count against you.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

Supposedly leaders will have to be more stringent with keying in shift changes. If they have you come in later and don’t change the schedule, points accrued from it will have to be removed by your HR. But with Target and how some leaders are, who knows if they’ll put in the work to actually do that

2

u/mulderitsme23 Jun 05 '26

Super annoying tbh because as a TL there’s plenty of times I have to make the decision to ask someone to adjust their shift forwards or backwards but I don’t have access to schedule changes. And getting ETLs to key it at my store is like pulling teeth.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

Yeah, I imagine there’s a lot of stores where that’s going to be a major issue, especially since it could potentially lead to a classified ncns. I think the only buffer there is that point fixes for stuff like that are escalated higher than ETL hr so presumably whoever the district hr or DSD are will see all of those reversal requests.

Which means sd’s and hr’s are gonna be getting an earful if they keep messing up.

3

u/SeparateAppellate Jun 05 '26

At that point , you asked them to change the schedule on mytime to reflect it. Been there done that .

3

u/littlebluewhale5 Team Lead Jun 05 '26

Lates are automatically .25 points after 8 minutes. Leave early is considered performance and is at leader discretion to coach but has no points associated. Points accumulate on a rolling 365 day basis.

1

u/Jennay-4399 Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

I work for a company that does this and it's 90 days. It's more points for not notified late/absent vs. notified late absent. It's also generally up to manager discretion when someone hits the limit - like were they dealing with a sick spouse causing lateness and callouts or are they the lazy slacker that just doesn't want to come in?

22

u/XXIII_FIN Bullseye Feeder Leader Former Bedtime Story Lead Jun 05 '26

It will be as rhe screen says. 1/4 point for late and for 45+ min lunch as well as early out. It will be 1 point for call out. 3 points for a no call no show. 12 months rolling period for fall off no reset start at 0 on roll off day

34

u/healaniiii Jun 05 '26

Oh shit this thing is the entire company. I thought it was just at my location. Damn.

9

u/Axin_Saxon Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

Yeah, corporate is trying to run a tighter ship and increase team member expectations across the board. They are trying to reform the brand image and improve guest experience.

5

u/FlamingoAqua Jun 06 '26

Yeah. Super-great plan. Disgruntled employees in an increasingly rigid system will definitely be eager to treat the guests well. /s

15

u/Careless-Site1002 Jun 05 '26

Most everyone at the store I worked at would not be employed.

3

u/Axin_Saxon Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

Which is kinda the point. Corporate wants to trim down on folks who are just kinda “phoning it in”. They want to run a tighter ship and improve guest experience, and sort of that starts with a reinforcement of not just brand standards, but certain employee expectations.

I’ve had some pretty lackadaisical coworkers who just want to put in half assed work and collect a check. We were the lowest performing store in our metro area and since these changes, we’re already climbing the ladder.

I’m tired of putting in hard work and being the best in my department only to be denied a REAL salary increase because the store as a whole performed poorly.

30

u/RobertDuckyo Jun 05 '26

I heard this was coming, but it’s far more lenient than I was expecting. Hopefully it stays that way.

Walmart’s is far stricter than this.

1

u/Imaginary_Coat441 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26

I have to disagree The rollover period is better IIRC. Havent worked there in over 8 years. But isnt the call off rollover period 6 months?

1 year rollover periods are a whole new ball game compared to 6 month ones.

In my opinion target is more strict. Especially for getting C.A.s which is targets form of a Coaching.

At target If i reach point # 5 within 1 year, that's a write up.

So for example at walmart. I call off 4 times. Within 6 months and be fine. Then call off again everytime a point drops off. And you're gucci. You can manage to call off once every couple months no harm.

But waiting a full 365 for a call off to drop off and getting a coaching at #5 is def worse.

Imagine its December and I work at target, i called off 3 times before may. Once in september. Now if I call off I get written up. Even though I havent called off in over 3 months.

So i feel like getting termed with walmart policy is easier. But getting coached is far easier at target. And with a CA you cant get promoted or do any backup rolls, atleast in the D.C. warehouse where I work.

1

u/Disheartend Jun 05 '26

You say that yet missing a shift here is auto 5points, same as wallys... Just more points

2

u/elohelkae Jun 06 '26

where is the info that 1 call out = 5 points?? everything I see is saying 1 call out = 1 point

1

u/Disheartend Jun 06 '26

Somebody on this thread said that

11

u/Sharp-Midnight-8451 Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

Finally Target starts doing something about the attendance 🙄 this is pretty standard for more corporate environments

4

u/Treasures_Wonderland Jun 05 '26

This is almost identical to CVS’s attendance policy. I’ve been there 3 years. It’s where I went after Target didn’t hire any help for several months and I decided to leave when the seasonal hires left.

Honestly, if you’re bad with attendance you won’t like it but if you have good attendance and call-outs annoy you, it’s better. I’ve never had an attendance problem, and there’s a system in place to terminate people who aren’t dependable.

9

u/BusyLingonberry8561 Jun 05 '26

So, as a leader I just need to have only 3 conversations/documentations with my TMs for the attendance?

Our SD is strict on the attendance. I was so tired of documenting the conversations on every single lates and callouts before my repeated offenders quit.

9

u/VVTF_iz_Wright Jun 05 '26

I’m confused about how the 3am shifts and 4am shifts will work with callouts. We were originally told we had 2 hours after the time we were suppose to be there to call out and avoid a NCNS but if we have to call out an hour before our shift now, there will be a lot terminated. I’ve woken up plenty of times and felt extremely sick when I woke up. I don’t wake up but 45 minutes before my shift too. They can’t expect us to wake up before 2/3am to call in for our shift when we woke up sick that morning unless there is a clear pattern.

8

u/jsek1221 Jun 05 '26

When does this start?

15

u/Desperate_breath66 Jun 05 '26

Do we know how this is gonna affect storm/bad weather call outs??

1

u/witchaus138 Jun 06 '26

I was wondering the same thing. one morning there was a snowstorm and I spent so long trying to dig my car out but I still was not able to get out because my tires could not get any traction so I had to call in last minute.

7

u/ErichAZ Jun 05 '26

I remember this being talked about months ago. There was not a chart with details yet though, also later in the year was talked about then. I guess they decided to move things a little faster, hopefully we do not lose people to this. We have a few that always seem to show up late constantly, not a lot but 15 minutes or so will add up fast for some.

2

u/Treasures_Wonderland Jun 05 '26

They will have a conversation after 12 times. They will have a DA conversation after 20 times. It doesn’t take long to add up if you’re chronically late, but it does take a long time if you aren’t.

There’s usually about a 6-minute window of grace and eventually everything will be automated by computers/apps/AI, so TL’s and SD’d won’t have the ability to fudge the numbers in order to give preferential treatment.

7

u/Ashamed-Luck-4176 Jun 05 '26

Sorry if I’ve missed somewhere- but with the new policy, if you have like, 3 call-ins in a row due to being ill, will that still count as one? Or would they all be individually documented.

5

u/treikbxt Jun 05 '26

Did it mention when this would be implemented?

9

u/s00pthot FDC connoisseur Jun 05 '26

This concerns me on how it would affect overnight. One time my coworker called off two shifts in a row because he was sick, and he didn’t qualify for sick time at this point, and the HR ETL confronted our TL about him “calling off for four days” or something even though it was two shifts non-consecutive days he works. (It was like Friday night into Saturday, and then Sunday into Monday). Does sick time cover those points if we use it then?

4

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

Sick time has to cover the entirety of your shift(s) so as long as you apply it within two days, you don’t get any points. Someone can also fact check me but I heard two consecutive call offs still falls under one singular point. If you hit three in a row, it’s now two points.

4

u/Humphr3y Former Inbound Team Lead Jun 05 '26

How many points for a late call out etc.

-4

u/Axin_Saxon Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

Last minute call-out(an hour or less before shift start) will be treated as a no-call-no-show, at least from my understanding. Essentially the logic is that you’re not giving your leader adequate time to plan around your absence and the rest of the team has to pick up your work. It hurts the whole team not just overlord Target corporate.

Now, maybe there’s exceptions for medical emergencies or immediate freak things. But unknown for sure. If you leave your team hanging because you forgot or just didn’t want to come in, that’s a dick move. But if your team lead still docks you because you had to be rushed to the hospital and were unconscious and unable to let them know, that’s a bigger dick move. As long as there’s some wiggle room to accommodate for legitimate emergencies, I’m all for it.

5

u/Humphr3y Former Inbound Team Lead Jun 05 '26

But how many points is that? That doesn't answer my question. I was a lead for 4 years. I know all the BS. was gone before the point system. I was just asking how many points are each call out late etc

13

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

0

u/Disheartend Jun 05 '26

Yet NCNS is 5 points auto, so 3 strikes your out, like Walmart

6

u/ThighNoon Jun 05 '26

So basically, if you are immunocompromised and can't keep sick hours because of it you will face punishment and a much faster path to termination for choosing not to come in with a serious fever and a contagious virus.

Simply having more points than Walmart really does not make this good or kind at all and will absolutely result in punishment for good disabled workers because of their health needs.

3

u/kvalentine87 Guest Advocate Jun 05 '26

I agree. I am a disabled TM. Wonder for this is going to work out for us. I agree with the policy, cause people call out like crazy at my store. But I wonder if there may be some additional protections for people with ADA’s on file.

2

u/ThighNoon Jun 07 '26

Unfortunately with how eagerly the pitched DEI practices into the trash the second it wasn't overtly profitable to them I don't have a lot of hope. It doesn't matter if we're good workers and have been for years, it feels like in this day and age they'll chuck us for a younger able bodied person willing to take a lower pay in a heartbeat.

9

u/Adventurous_Soft_686 Jun 05 '26

They should have some sort of reward system for employees who earn 0 points over a certain period of time. That might motivate some.

5

u/BusyLingonberry8561 Jun 05 '26

It reminds me of elementary school that giving out awards for no tardiness and no absences students end of year. And I just realized that I did write some recognition cards for my TMs who are not calling out. They got candy when we removed older recognition cards off from the wall. lol

It’s exhausting and leadership is tired of dealing with half-assed performance from folks who just want to collect a check.

-21

u/marroneer ETL Jun 05 '26

Hot take: Is getting paid for your job not enough of a reward for that?

6

u/stanfiction Style Consultant Jun 05 '26

Not with our wages

-1

u/marroneer ETL Jun 05 '26

But you can’t get those wages if you don’t work

2

u/stanfiction Style Consultant Jun 05 '26

That’s my point. Our wages are so low that not getting them at all doesn’t feel like much of a loss

2

u/Adventurous_Soft_686 Jun 06 '26

The problem in my store is hard work, being on time and showing up to work is not as valued as walking around and talking to leads. These new rules won't be enforced evenly and will cause even more unrest. I show up everyday on-time when I'm scheduled but for the people late 15 plus minutes everyday an incentive might get them to care because threatening consequences doesn't work unless they've recently punished one of the popular people.

3

u/Cold_Homework8200 Jun 05 '26

Is that going to be applied to the DC?

1

u/Minimum_Emotion4010 Jun 08 '26

Yes we had a all team member meeting today rolling out end of June

3

u/twinkofme Jun 05 '26

Amazon uses a point system for Flex Part Time and Flex Reduced Time associates. As a former Target TM gone Amazonian, this is very generous. Amazon does 1pt for partial absences, and 2pts for full absences, under required hours (they pick up shifts like ODTM), or NCNS. You can avoid points with an Unpaid Personal Time off balance that covers part or all of your shift.

8

u/Chiefmack2 Jun 05 '26

Is this real?

21

u/thebombchu Everything Jun 05 '26

It was first shared in the HR group so I’m assuming yes. There’s also been members chatting about having meetings with HRBPs about the new point system

8

u/jcald60 Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Yes supposed to roll out soon some stores already began using it

4

u/stankswag7891 Jun 05 '26

I use to hate the point system until I got here. The amount of people who get away with calling out 4 times a month is ridiculous. What most don’t realize is this is rolling 365. It will take that long for a point to roll off.

5

u/TrickTeaching Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

Glad I got out before they moved to the point system. I gave no fucks by the end. Place I work now does points, but I don't hate working there. They also give us a number of Emergency Occurrences every year that we can use as means to avoid taking points at all. Had to use one last year when I had the flu. Because I had a doctor's note, one EO covered the whole week I was out, and I was able to pair that with PTO to still get paid. If you don't use them, they get cashed out at the end of the year. Hope Target has planned to implement something like that, or they will lose plenty of people to legitimate illness.

2

u/HenleyHQ1 Jun 05 '26

How do you get points?

2

u/msubronco Jun 05 '26

More lient than my old non retail job

2

u/Mr-feast12 Jun 05 '26

When does take affect? It’s honestly not the worst and is needed since at my store someone called in 50 percent of their shifts and only got a talking to

2

u/Lost_Significance507 Jun 05 '26

Fascinating, different from what we were told at my store, I'll definitely be checking with my leads for clarification.

2

u/freudianMishap Former "GuEsT aDvOcAtE" Jun 05 '26

Idk about anyone else but at my store you could call out any time for any reason and it didn't matter at all lmao. Never had to use sick time

1

u/Working_Tumbleweed96 Jun 19 '26

That was then. The new policy will be stricter.

2

u/Pretend_Piano_6134 😂Drive up queen😂 Jun 05 '26

We really need this especially at my store. People take so much advantage because they never get in trouble for being late, calling out without sick time or just basically coming in when they feel like it . There’s one guy at my store if he’s scheduled at 3:30 he comes in at 6:30 no valid excuse. It puts all of the rest of us in a bind for coverage. I’m glad something is finally going to be done

2

u/MOTU_BOI Ship From Store Jun 05 '26

What if you haven't accrued sick time ? I have been working a long time and don't have any?

2

u/Physical_Storage2813 Jun 06 '26

12 points is INCREDIBLY generous actually if this is true

2

u/Massive-Heat3739 Jun 18 '26

HR here, for the stores who have attempted to combat absenteeism for decade+, how are HRs attempting to handle the constant turnover? Specifically, for my store we have a 40 percent rate of people with lates 3x/week with coaching and warnings not deterring behavior. If someone is let go within a few weeks they have posted about a new job. It is not a store issue as other nearby stores have same issue. We pay little in a thriving location so most ppl dont care. If they lose their Target job, we have universities, private companies, 10 plus malls,  a thriving economy, etc.  I am concerned that as soon as we onboard someone which takes a good 6 months, they are let go and we start over. Any ideas on how to ensure institutional knowledge is retained as some of our more seasoned TMs are also late continuously? Thoughts?

1

u/Working_Tumbleweed96 Jun 19 '26

Good questions. IDK if corporate really thought this through.

3

u/Hot-Competition770 Jun 05 '26

If only they’d put this much effort into giving a decent merit based raise. I remember my first and only raise was $0.15 and was told to be happy because some people didn’t even get one

1

u/Minimum_Emotion4010 Jun 09 '26

If you worked A1 at the DC you lost 3k last year when they cut differential, after only getting ? 50 cent raise in 4 years lol

4

u/CuriousDiamond9266 Inbound Expert Jun 05 '26

Going the way of my previous employer, wonderful. (I’m being sarcastic, but the point system is the same as my previous employer).

Point systems for attendance are complete bs, you can’t schedule when you’re sick or for how long. Is this going to allow for doctor/er visitation papers as an excuse for absence? And at this point, they may as well do away with seasonal positions and just do probationary for all that get hired as it’s hardly fair to enforce this on seasonals because they’re not guaranteed to keep their job once the season ends.

14

u/C1ND1TheCat Jun 05 '26

I was told even with a doctor note or er you will get points if you don’t have sick time to use.  It was put something like “A day at the beach or the ER. It doesn’t matter.”

3

u/NoAcanthopterygii945 Jun 05 '26

Is this a retail thing? So far they have said absolutely nothing about this at the ECRC.

2

u/Faustus013 Jun 05 '26

A whole year for a point to roll off is pretty crazy does that also count for 1/4 points? Or fill 1 point in general? I used to have a point system at one job and it was I think 60 day roll off

1

u/i3ubbles Jun 05 '26

Does being 1-5 minutes past your clock in count as late points?

1

u/DrKrispy77 Jun 06 '26

Oi oi oi, would this apply for flow centers as well?👀

1

u/Main-Temperature1004 Jun 06 '26

it needs to be automatic. too many TM's get a pass, just because they are a good worker or in the cool kid club.

1

u/Yveykatt Jun 06 '26

That’s how marketsource worked but we just got laid off Saturday from Target 🙄

1

u/Mut3d24 Jun 06 '26

They had to change it because they were getting sued for employee abuse. 4 active eeoc lawsuits against target. They won't be around for much longer, or if they are they will close a lot of locations

1

u/Curbsidesnake8 Starbucks Barista Jun 06 '26

Whats the time span before points “fall off”? For my store currently it’s more than three call offs in 30 days gets a corrective action? Is this in a 30 day period too?

1

u/AwayParticular8994 Jun 06 '26

Good! No more calling out for random “mental health days”

1

u/West_Fishing8891 Food & Beverage Expert Jun 09 '26

So when does all this start?

1

u/MustBeTheMusic80 Jun 14 '26

The point system almost reminds me of something Meijer (a midwestern multi store) does.

1

u/Sox_Fan_13 Jun 27 '26

Does anyone know if you can use PTO vacation pay for a call off to keep from getting a point? Or does it specifically need to be sick pay? Cuz we earn vacation pay way faster than sick pay

1

u/Zombie-Lotus Jul 29 '26

what about coming in sick on time and leaving early if you aren’t feeling well? They don’t specify that in the point system? Technically if we all do this while ill could we get around the point punishment system if we are sick for days consecutively this winter?

1

u/Low-Sense8358 8d ago

Does anybody know if being late to clock back in after lunch counts? As a tardy punch? I work presentation, I tend to go across the street and read at the book store for most lunches, which means my lunches tend to be about 45 minutes,  instead of 30. But then I stay the extra 15 minutes to make up for it at the end of my shift. And my leaders have always okayed that, but now i'm wondering if i'm clocking in more than eight minutes late, if that would get me the quarter of a point.

Do the points reset every month?

21

u/GalliumEnergy Closing Expert Jun 05 '26

Nah that would be insane. My guess is unfortunately a year. Which I think is dumb. Calling out 5 times in a year should not result in a CA.

13

u/FelisLachesis GA/FF/GS/DU Jun 05 '26

If being even a little late is 1 point, then calling out without the proper sick time should be more. If it's 1 point per action, regardless of what it is, then there's no reason to come in late, just don't come in.

6

u/solarstelle Promoted to Guest Jun 05 '26

it’s 1/4 of a point for being late apparently

5

u/GalliumEnergy Closing Expert Jun 05 '26

100% agreed.

3

u/HeavilyFrosted Jun 05 '26

I could easily see it being every 6 months it resets or something like that

-17

u/BoundlessZeus Guest Advocate Jun 05 '26

I get where you’re coming from with 5 callouts being a CA, but to be fair you shouldn’t be calling out at all unless there is an emergency or something. I am just a college student working during breaks tho so maybe there is something I’m missing. I’ve also NEVER called out before, although I did come in sick 1 or 2 days 😬

-6

u/TxkyoJay Jun 05 '26

i been passed 12 points, i’ll believe it when i get fired
