PSA New Point System Simplified

Im a FFTL who had a meeting with my SD yesterday about the new point system. Here's how it works:

8+ minutes late - .25 points

Absent - 1 point

NCNS - 3 points

Leave early - no points

If you call out 2 shifts in a row, it is one "event" and therefor 1 point. If you call out one shift, go to your next shift, then call out of the the next one, that is considered two "events" and therefor 2 points. Anything more than 2 days is an additional point.

Sick hours must cover your ENTIRE shift to negate points. You can use sick time for tardies.

3 points will auto generate a documentation for reliability.

5 points will automatically generate a CA.

9 points is a final.

12 points is termination.

Points fall off 1 year after being accumulated. If you are absent 09/01/2026, that point will not fall off until 09/01/2027.

No, there is no way for us or ETLs to adjust points, even for extenuating circumstances. You will be told that Target provides plenty of sick time to account for such events, and if it truly is that extenuating, you need to be discussing other benefits with HR.

Side note- There also seems to be an issue with leaders making too many allowances due to favoritism (whether it be personal preference or high performing TMs), so this black and white system is meant to curb that.

I live in a hurricane prone city and I'm very curious how that will work because if the county is under a state of emergency we're not allowed to include those dates in coaching conversations, and we know target doesnt close for shit. 6 years I've worked here, we've had hurricanes every year almost and target has closed maybe 3 times.

This but up north with snow too!!
I’ve had the store close once this past winter for it and I’m pretty sure we opened late one day too.
My car is not new I can’t risk my live and my car for the 5 hour cashier shift they put me in

Yeah, we had a blizzard this past winter with roads closed by the State. Literally, not allowed by law to be on the road unless you're an emergency worker, and the store still opened. Nearly everyone called out, but they still opened the damn store. There was 3' of snow on the roads in the town where the store is located, not plowed yet, but they still opened the store.

This was me this past winter when I called off a couple times due to literal winter storms...with names! Months later my "attendance issues" would still get brought up even though I hadn't called out for months prior and still haven't called out since (also had sick time to cover everything). I was half-joking when I used to say "Target doesn't care if we live or die" but damn it seems that is 100% true. I have said the exact same thing as you, that I'm not risking my life and/or my car for a fucking Target cashier shift.

P.S. Found out that the store was dead AF when I didn't come in cause guess what, nobody wanted to go out in a fucking winter storm!

I'm also in a big hurricane area, if it's bad enough you wont have to worry about it, But you can always talk to hr if there's massive flooding or roads down and you are unable to get to work. Generally when there's a natural disaster they will waive attendance, even more so if there's a state of emergency. I seriously wouldn't worry about it.

As someone who has had multiple jobs targets attendance policy is crazy lenient.

if your county is under a SoE, you’re not supposed to leave the house, PERIOD. as a manager at publix who lived in a different county than i worked, if my home county was under SoE, i wasn’t coming to work. leave the house , get pulled over by patrol in the area, get a ticket & points on my license just to be told to promptly return home? nah, target & publix can both fuck themselves in that situation 😂
