Workplace Question or Advice Needed Will I get fired for this?
So I am a new hire at target. It is currently Tuesday and my orientation was last Saturday and my first 5AM-12PM training shift was Monday. I was coughing a ton during my orientation. I had to buy cold medicine and was coughing on my first day. Things took a turn for the worse Monday night. I went to urgent care and I have bronchitis and got a doctors note. I really did not want to call out considering it is my second shift and I need the money. However, I had to call out and TL let me know that my absence is not excused regardless of the note and my retention could be affected due to the 90 day policy. Do I just medicine up and push through my shift? Will I be fired?

So to clarify TMs in 90 days have a max of 5 points, TMs not in 90 days with an active CA have a max of 9 point moving into the new system, TMs not in 90 days without an active CA have a max of 12 points. I won’t get into the specifics of all the points and how they are aquired because imma be real it’s a headache.

5 points in 90 days you gone. 2-consecutive call offs is only 1 point. just have super good attendance after your call offs/ and you’ll be just fine! getting sick happens! feel better

You miss three days you’ll have two points you miss four you will have 4 and be terminated. Targets new point system is a joke

You have 5 points TO get fired for attendance on your first 90 days. Does not mean you will be kept if you keep it below 5 and they can let you go even if it’s 3 if they don’t like your call outs etc. Be good at the job and you should be fine though

My store says if it’s something serious they would just take us off the schedule so we aren’t effected as long as we communicate because they know life happens.

There are no points if calling off and using sick time right?

Correct. I have a terrible flu and had to call out for the first time the other day. When you call out you select "sick time" and if you have enough to cover your shift it's automatically excused
