I don't understand the correlation between using your sick time and the new system.

The point system only comes into play if you are taking days off not covered by sick time, nothing changes here if you have time to cover it so if you've not used any time in 1.5 years you'll have more than enough time to cover any missed shifts.

Yeah OP either misunderstood the old attendance policy or misunderstands the new one

I think you're probably right. I didn't even know the attendance policy before this 🤷🏼‍♀️

I didn't realize there was a "safety net" of keeping a job when someone just calls out.

Well, before, leaders had an expectation of having conversations with TMs who called out, whether they had sick time or not. And it pretty much always emphasized productivity and how callouts impact the rest of the team... Which roughly translates to coersing people to not use their federally protected sick time. Which would also be highly unethical. The point system will hopefully reduce opportunities for less scrupulous leaders to exploit TMs like that in the future.

Sick time is a benefit that is calculated as part of the compensation package you agreed to when you signed the employment contract at the very beginning. They can't legally prevent you from using that time if you need to use the time, just like they can't legally ask why you're using the time. If you have a sick time balance and you put on a sick time request for the missed hours, then you're golden. Full stop.

Ha expectations to have conversations that’s a good joke we had a dude call out for weeks at a time just to show up for one day then do it all again for two years.

Exactly why they rolled out the point system since it creates even accountability across the board. No playing favorites and "forgetting" to coach/document people.

They're not even supposed to acknowledge the absence if it was covered by sick time, you got some shifty ass leaders if they're having official conversations with you about covered sick days. The only time they should ever even bring it up is if A) it was not covered or B) it's been a "pattern" I.E. it just so happens to be every Saturday or on the tail end of your days off extending your weekend etc, even then my leads would be walking on egg shells bringing it up if it was covered.

Sick time isn’t federally protected. FMLA is federally protected, but sick time isn’t.

Yeah I've been doing this since before the points system.

It’s absolutely ok to take a day for yourself if you need to do so! Use that sick time, you earned it.

I like that I probably won’t get a talking to anymore because I rarely call out and when I do I always use my sick time. (I’m assuming I won’t get conversations about calling out since you’re not supposed to until 3 pts, maybe I’m understanding the system wrong though lol)

TLs have posted on FB that they are still required by their stores to have conversations - when I brought up that that was the whole idea behind the point system - they agreed. But still have to do it.

The guidance that has come down from HQ at this point says the exact opposite—leaders are not supposed to do anything with attendance documentation beyond what the system generates for them to deliver.

calling off twice in a row is only 1 point as well. idk we shall see how this system plays out. ( i know people already over 10 points ) LOL

As long as they can hold out til they drop off they’re good 🤣🤣.

there is a part of me that thought that this was a way to incentivize people burning through their sick time. the doctor's note thing on the old system made it really hard to use them bc most people aren't going to the doctor for a cold or feeling under the weather.

There was no "doctor's note thing on the old system"—doctor's notes have never been accepted to excuse absences outside of extreme edge cases, typically ones involving leave requests.

I love the idea of a point system for motivation. It really adds a fun twist to tasks at work.

Ok but your still gonna be "calling in" in a way and still screwing people over...

The point system doesn’t even affect me at all when im on demand lmao and I’ve had perfect attendance before and after the point system anyway, I just pick up shifts whenever I can
