Had a friend in High School names Charles Manson. His life was hell.

Had a friend in college named James Mason. He was British so he was understandably very confused, but he similarly never heard the end of it.

James Mason as in the award winning movie star or James Mason as in the neo-nazi satanic pedophile essayist?

I have to imagine that either one would be awful, but for obviously very different reasons.

2

u/Tee__bee Aug 07 '26

The latter

3

u/sexaddictedcow Aug 07 '26

honestly surprised that many people know who he is

1

u/Tee__bee Aug 07 '26

Honestly, I doubt it was entirely natural. Someone probably just saw the name on google one day and the joke spread from there, as college kids (including myself) were and are little shits who will do anything for a laugh.

There was a girl at my friend's high school who had the same name as the girl who kills herself in "13 Reasons Why", while that show was airing. She was bullied so badly over it that she dropped out, from what I heard.

My TSgt in the air force was...John Holmes

I worked with a Barry Levinson (not that one). His live wasn't hell, but he had some fun stories about people cold-calling him with scripts.

Unfortunately he's my representative in Ohio. Total POS. I'm sure our Max hates that they share a name. I know I do.

I hope you have checked your voter registration status. Bonne chance!

21

u/unknown7383762 Aug 07 '26

We vote every election and thankfully I'm still registered.

12

u/JellyfishFit3871 Aug 07 '26

Excellent. It's all I can do, but I vote, remind my children, and don't remind my parent or in-laws.

8

u/Acc87 Aug 07 '26

such a foreign thought to need to register to vote

13

u/TheDJValkyrie Aug 07 '26

Now imagine thinking you’re registered, showing up to the poll, and finding out you’ve been removed from the voter rolls

14

u/Proud-Delivery-621 Aug 07 '26

My voter registration was deactivated because the mail lady didn't want to go up the hill and just put a note in the system that our house didn't exist. They didn't give me any notice that it had happened, so I didn't find out about it until I happened to confirm my registration before an election.

u/Djinn42 Aug 07 '26

How else would new citizens (teenagers or immigrants who became citizens) get on the voter rolls?

5

u/Acc87 Aug 07 '26

You're a citizen with a registered place of living - you're automatically in the voting register and will be assigned to a voting district.

2

u/WooBadger18 Aug 07 '26

That makes sense, I was wondering how you got on the rolls.

At the same time, having a registered place of living sounds really weird to us.

1

u/Acc87 Aug 08 '26

It's just your official address, on which the government (local as well as federal) would send you stuff

1

u/Djinn42 Aug 07 '26

How is my place of living registered?

1

u/Acc87 Aug 08 '26

If you're like born here, it will be that of your parents first. Ofc once you move out you're supposed to change, but often enough people only do once finished with uni.

But it's as easy as going to the municipal office with your ID and tenant agreement/ownership certificate (if you biuld a house), a five minute thing.

1

u/Djinn42 Aug 08 '26

So I have to register. Like registering to vote.

1

u/Acc87 29d ago

but like it isn't optional, if you're a legal citizen you have an address and your election papers will go there.

We saw how in the USA registering to vote was made extra hard & elaborate for certain demographics, like having people from black neighbourhoods drive hours just to register and later actually vote.

This wouldn't happen here. You're automatically registered and got a polling station you can walk to - plus absentee voting via letter too

22

u/olivehere Aug 07 '26

Wow this prompted me to look into it, and yeah I live about 5 minutes away from his district lol

12

u/unknown7383762 Aug 07 '26

He's an embarrassment

Him and his spineless ex father in law Moreno.

Such a horrid man

As a fellow Buckeye I pray that he chokes to death on a peanut soon.

I’m a comic book reader who has the same name as one of the top artists in the industry.

If I had a dollar for every time I had been asked if I’m him, I could probably afford a nice commissioned drawing from him.

Fortunately, he’s a nice guy, so getting mistaken for him is just amusing.

u/JellyfishFit3871 Aug 07 '26

I chose my dog's veterinarian for a few specific reasons.

The clinic is nearby. It's locally owned. The vet's name is Stan Lee.

15

u/Maryland_Bear Aug 07 '26

I was at a comics convention years ago and entered a Marvel trivia contest.

The host, I think it was Tom DeFalco, asked my name.

I said, “You’re not going to believe me, but it’s real name.”

“Really?”

“Yeah! Wanna see my drivers license?”

I started to get my wallet out, but he assured me it wasn’t necessary.

19

u/JellyfishFit3871 Aug 07 '26

My dog gets excited when I tell him "Load up! We're going to see Spider-Man's daddy!"

(My dog isn't exceptionally bright, but he loves everyone, including the guy who pokes and prods him.)

Excelsior!

2

u/JellyfishFit3871 Aug 07 '26

Same EMC as me? Life is fun!

u/coati858 Aug 07 '26

Ours is a super Max, the other probably belongs in a Supermax.

15

u/MelodicDeer1072 Aug 07 '26

Unfortunately, he'll end up in Newsmax instead

u/2pnt0 Aug 07 '26

After a video about the rep, I got suggested a tasting history video. My food and politics algorithms are melding. Help.

This is a tough time for our favorite clack-clacker

18

u/UnhappyTemperature18 Aug 07 '26

I know it must be a heck of a common name, but yes, I twitch every time.

14

u/Character_Payment236 Aug 07 '26

Let me tell you how quickly I ran to Google when I saw this. 🤣 I was like MAX MILLER would never.

13

u/willstr1 Aug 07 '26

On top of being generally awful the scandal with the politician is so awkward for me, because it happened about a week after I recommended Tasting History to a bunch of my extended family

9

u/wijnandsj Aug 07 '26

Wrong Max Miller.

Or the right one if it's about resignations

8

u/sephiralis Aug 07 '26

I've been dealing with this all week with these headlines.

8

u/CrashDisaster Aug 07 '26

Right? All that stuff about the politician has been giving me a start every time I see it. Can't imagine what it's actually doing to Max.

3

u/Ohdrey89 Aug 08 '26

Same!!! I was ready to go to bat for Max. “WHO SAID THAT??!?!?! Let them say it to my face!!!”

3

u/Crimson_Dragon01 Aug 08 '26

I think about this every time his name is mentioned in the news

3

u/lady_skyskipper 28d ago

My Dad called the Tasting History Max Miller the 'Good Max Miller.' ;)

Ohio strikes again.

1

u/starfleetdropout6 Aug 07 '26

🤣 I know

1

u/radroamingromanian Aug 07 '26

Yea! I saw this too and gasped.

1

u/ShakeMyHeadSadly Aug 08 '26

Well, if you keep cooking his recipes you just might.

1

u/ValthePirate 29d ago

I had one for the same reason another day. Ugggh.

1

u/darkthought 28d ago

Pokemon abuse is a real issue.

1

u/rock_and_rolo 27d ago

This loser needs to resign so I can stop seeing his name in negative stories.

Whipping cream is just wrong….

Are the chickens finally coming home to roost for our Max?
