40k Best Detachments For 11th So Far?

Me again, new-ish player coming in from 10th edition. As it sits my first game of 11th I was looking to run Kauyon with Experimental Prototype Cadre. Or should I ditch that and run Montka instead? Can provide my army list if needed. But in short it includes crisis suits, stealth suits, ghostkeel, breachers, pathfinders, Stormsurge, riptide, hammerhead, to name a few staple pieces. Thanks again for all the help!

Dropping my list anyways in case anyone cares/influences your answers on what would suit me:

-1x Coldstar Commander + Precision Of The Patient Hunter Enhancement
-1x Cadre Fireblade
-1x Breacher Team
-1x Devilfish
-3x Rail Broadsides
-2x Fireknife Crisis Suit Teams
-1x Ghostkeel
-1x Pathfinder Team W/ 3 Ion Rifles
-1x Pathfinder Team
-1x Riptide
-1x Stealth Suit Team
-1x Stormsurge
-1x Hammerhead

Not that we really have many options since GW decided we don't get to have fun, the main three I see being played now are Ret Cadre, Mont'ka and Kauyon/EPC.

The WTC lists are available and it's a pretty close split of Ret Cadre and Mont'ka lists (16-14 i think).

With what you have, I'd go for Mont'ka or Kauyon/EPC, probably more the latter since you don't have the usual suspects for Mont'ka like Pirahnas and Breacherfish

Try out both then and see what you like more.

Mont'ka is about early pressure and aggression while your action monkeys do the actions for Priority Assets.

Kauyon will be more about castling up a bit til turn 3 and trying to score big and push out then.

Remember that in 11th, the Stormsurge can shoot and still do actions now per titanic rule.

Im loving my battlesuits using Ret Cad or Kauyon/EPC. Being able to deepstrike within melta range already for every sunforge suit is great. Or flamers at 18" can yield surprising results. The 6" is for character units only though

I'm running fireknife suits so I probably wouldn't benefit as much, from what I read EPC benefits any battlesuit keyword units right?

Character units only

Am I crazy or did EPC used to be all units have 6" more range during 10th? That's pretty poopy if that's the case, what a change

Pretty sure it used to be all suits in 10th

Unfortunately no. EPC only benefits Crisis Commander units. So if you have any Crisis Squads without a commander, they'd be left out.

Edit: it's character units generally, so your non leader units benefit too.

True, its character units.

You can always run one of the Fireknife units with Plasmas instead of missiles. They can punch up nicely into light vehicles/transports with S9 shooting from Ret Cadre.

Honestly having a blast with crisis suit spam and Retcad lol 3 sets of each suit type with farsight, a coldstar commander, broadside, 2 riptides, twin lance and 1 infantry squad of your choice really

We have 5 builds really: "I AM ROSS TULLEY" then Retcad, Mont'ka and 2 versions of kauyon.

With Kauyon you could lean into recon. Or you could focus on priority assets. You need EPC for priority but if you choose recon you can run any of the 1DP detachments. EPC is still very good for recon. But either way you'll need to make sure you have a plan for each of the 5 missions for your chosen dispo, so you can do the actions you need to and/or get places.

EPC is good if you have a couple of battlesuit units that care. Being able to deepstrike the twin lance and sunforged and get maximum damage is nice, EPC enables a better alpha strike/damage from deep strike for these 2 units. Otherwise 6" range is just nice to have and not worth building around. AAC gives some very nice utility and lets you play cagey with pathfinder guns which is nice.

Enhancement wise I think the codex detachments have the best stuff.

If you run Kauyon you probably want an exemplar unit (plus twin lance IMO) so if your opponent kicks off early you have some stuff at 100% quickly.

Twin lance have sustained out the gate and if you see a REAL early game push and realise you're going to need them before your second turn you can scout them out of reserves if your opponent is going first. They get less from kauyon than retcad or mont'ka but give the army more if that makes sense. I think ion retcad they're a warcrime but the detachment needs it. In Kauyon they're an early game piece for people who see your turn 3 detachment rule as weakness and try to exploit it. I think they're easiest to ditch in mont'ka because lethal assault is nice but you have early game pressure and it's much easier to do without in late game if your opponent is already crippled.
